''Hatred has generated discussion and debate since it’s trailer popped up online. Cries of disgust, condemning comments were made, customers created. The fact is, Hatred’s concept is taboo, it’s highly taboo in fact, and given the environment the game is being released into, it’s created a boiling pot of opinions. Some want the game to be banned, others argue that it’s just a game and should be released. There’s even a group of people who have became self appointed judges, claiming anyone who buys the game is ‘sick’ or ‘a bad person’. Hatred is slowly turning into the biggest game of 2015, but not for the traditional reasons.''
A game about killing people.
This game was just gratuitous violence. I don't know why it was rated AO. It's no worse than a GTA killing spree, Hotline Miami, or even the 'No Russian' COD mission. Reminded my of a weaker Dead Nation except no zombies.
I'm surprised Switch is getting this and PlayStation/Xbox isn't. The game was basically Postal with better graphics and more realism.
A look at five games that gamers loved but most critics hated.
Advent Rising is another good example. It got panned by critics but it has a good story and I enjoyed playing it. The graphics are dated, the enemies all look the same, but it was made in 2005 so what do you expect? I wish they made the sequel so I could finish the story but I think the critics killed it off.
Joanna Mueller writes: "Since the 1980's, video game advocates have been arguing for the protection of games as a medium of free speech. Frankly, I consider myself in that camp, but just because a game can push against the boundaries of common decency doesn't mean it should. Especially if the developer is just hoping to ride the wave of pearl clutching controversy to the bank."
Nothing wrong with pushing for controversy, but the game still has to be worthwhile. Lots of games in the 90s showed that.
Because the novelty will eventually wear off and the audience will eventually wise up.
So what? If there's a market for something then why should anyone care if it gets filled, as long as it's not something illegal? You can dislike so-called "edge lord" games all you want (in fact, you can like or dislike whatever you want, full stop) but even if games like Hatred are just trying to take advantage of anti-SJW backlash to make a quick buck, the fact that they exist at all is important in a culture that's becoming increasingly puritan and censorship orientated. Art is supposed to push the envelope. It's supposed to make you think. And even if all a game makes you do is think about why certain people are so desperate to ban it.
"Hatred is slowly turning into the biggest game of 2015, but not for the traditional reasons"
And that is the problem right there. The game isn't getting press because it's actually a good game or anything normal gamers would be excited about when a game is announced. It's getting heat because of the controversy it is causing.
These developers are such scam artists and they are standing behind the "freedom of expression/speech" shield and letting the internet warriors do all their promotion for them.
Worse case scenario is these guys get filthy rich off of the sales only because of false word of mouth and people find out just how empty and uninspired this game was, but too late, they already got your money off of the most unimaginative, most juvenile concept in video game history.
"I’d submit the likes of Postal and Manhunt are far worse than anything seen in Hatred’s trailer."
Wrong, Postal at least had humor and somewhat of a storyline and Manhunt was far better than any of those two as that game actually had style, a storyline and a bad a$# narrative, not to mention people who were out to kill you.
I swear, I'm going to make a game where you go around raping innocent adolescent children and then claim "hey it's just freedom of speech don't censor me!!". Some things are just morally wrong, and it may have it's place among some individuals or certain groups but those are individuals and groups i would not like to know or even frequent the same areas as.
So well said.
Game is pure filth, not even a game.
Gabe was right to pull it, wrong to put it back up
The devs are full blown hard right wing neo's and racist bigots. They are scamming the ultra stupid with this negative press hype and loving it.
This "game" will only do long term harm to gaming as a whole and it is plain to see for anyone with at least 3 functioning brain cells.
Support for this title is akin to a gun nut lobbying for gun control. It doesn't make any sense, anyone that loves gaming and quality games would be against this.
the reality that there is support for trash like "hatred" just shows how many ignorant sociopaths there are in the world (or at least on steam).
hatred trailer doesn't even look like a game....just graphic violence without context. also, the losers who created this seems to relish throwing in the voices of people begging for their lives - what person wants to "play" this kind of garbage??? - what's next? games where the player can plan and carry out school shootings?? maybe a college rape game? or maybe a game about raping children? hey how about an elderly abuse game??.....sure because according to gabe and the steam community - this is all ok......
it's very sad to know people think this way.
Hopefully Sony allows this on PSN. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Sad, because this is a game people have a huge problem with this. Where are all the people crying about movies like Hostel? No one cares about them, games are treated with a double standard compared to other media because you control them. People need to open their eyes and realize this is just another piece of media and if you don't like it you can just not support it. All of this crying and calling it trash is a misguided waste of time.
