39gb Patch for AC Unity Is Ridiculous

Katie Ireland from Gamerscore Whores writes "Assassins Creed Unity Patch 4 has landed with a staggering 39 Gigabytes of updates required for some Xbox One users. This goes down in console history as the largest gaming patch ever released, however there appears to be some confusion as the patch is only appearing as 6.9GB for other users.. The question remains, are people ready for such gargantuan updates? HDD space, broadband speeds, download times...surely this simply isn't good enough Ubisoft?"

Wow, they might as well have made a completely new game...

SonofGod3417d ago

The patch is supposed to be like 7GB but there is a bug (only on the XO I think) that makes the update 40GB. Basically you're re-installing the whole game..

Tapani3415d ago

So, even the patches are buggy. *laughs*

Army_of_Darkness3415d ago (Edited 3415d ago )

Lol! It's like putting on a defective band-aid that has holes and doesn't stick too well....

Ranma13416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

Try downloading that with a dial up connection, it would take 8428571 seconds (thats 2341.27 hours or 97 days).

If true, its a leap of fail by ubisoft

RedDeadLB3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

I love inconsistencies. That's Altair in the picture, not Ezio :)

Other than that, well.. PC hasn't even got the update yet..
Not that I expect much from it..

-Foxtrot3416d ago

They have it's called Victory :)

Ezz20133416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

it will be 40GB game with 45GB day 1 patch

NuggetsOfGod3416d ago

Someone told me consoles are better because they are optimized.

Hmmm not sure anymore.

Low frames and broken games.

BX813416d ago

Don't confuse software with hardware.

brish3416d ago

Games on broken on PC as well.

brish3416d ago

That should have said "Games ARE broken on PC as well."

*facepalm*

rdgneoz33415d ago

Watch TotalBiscuits WTF series, he basically couldn't do it for Unity because of how broken it was and he has a new high end gaming rig,

Its an under 7 gig download, and for some its nearly 40 gig as it will redownload the entire game due to a bug and not an added 40 gigs.

medman3415d ago

Ubishite strikes again. I wish I could say I was surprised, but.....

"The question remains, are people ready for such gargantuan updates? HDD space, broadband speeds, download times...surely this simply isn't good enough Ubisoft?"

Well said. And what about if you are playing offline. Can they really be satisfied with the product they are providing?

Ezz20133416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

Who need finished games when we get creatures like that
http://static4.gamespot.com...

i always wanted *Hallow Man* game and Ubisoft did it
i'm satisfied

TheJacksonRGN3417d ago

The Patch is 6.9GB. 40GB is how much you install for the full game. Maybe there is an error that is causing it to re-install the game.

ShadowNextGen3417d ago

Right now the download is 40gb on the Xbox One. If you want another source, here you go:

http://kotaku.com/6-7gb-ass...

TheJacksonRGN3417d ago (Edited 3417d ago )

Read the comment from below:

"Its def a bug. I was prompted with the 40 gig patch. I uninstalled the game, rebooted my console, and inserted the disc and was prompted to only install a 6.5 gig patch."

Clearly it is a bug, the actual patch is not 40 gig. Ubisoft themselves said the patch was 6.7gb.

"Part of the team's effort to enhance frame rate for players involves replacing and updating portions of the Paris city map where we are seeing issues," Ubisoft said. "This explains the large size of this title update (6.7 GB). However, since a large portion of the patch replaces existing files the net increase to the game’s overall size will be less than 6.7 GB"

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

This guy is ranting as though Ubisoft put out an actual 40gb patch. This is a bug.

ShadowNextGen3417d ago (Edited 3417d ago )

This is a bug but it is a 40gb bug. Once again, check out Kotaku and the statement from Ubisoft:

"We have received and confirmed reports that some Xbox One players who have previously applied Patch 3 are seeing a 40GB download instead of the expected 6.7GB download. Unfortunately, an issue with the patch downloading process is replacing the entire game instead of just the parts affected by the patch. This is obviously not the expected behavior, and we apologize that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download. This issue isn't causing any other problems and once the download is completed players will have the most-up-to-date and fully patched version of Assassin's Creed Unity."

NuggetsOfGod3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

Unity is an error itself.

Maybe the 40gb is a new game!?

So happy I got dragon age instead.

nitus103415d ago

For some with slow internet access and possibly capped download limits even 6.9GB is huge for just a game.

My internet speed can be anything up to 2MB/sec so downloading 6.9GB would take me approximately 1 hour. 40GB oh the other hand would take, if I am lucky 4 hours and eat into a third of my cap and all this for just one game. For those on dial-up I truly sympathise.

DarkBlood3417d ago

Whew scared the bejesus out of me lol

4logpc3417d ago

Its def a bug. I was prompted with the 40 gig patch. I uninstalled the game, rebooted my console, and inserted the disc and was prompted to only install a 6.5 gig patch.

Had to reinstall from the disc which took awhile, but a lot better than downloading all 40 gigs.

KiwiViper853416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

I also un/reinstalled. Took so long to install, much longer than the original install aswell. From 7pm-11pm got to 12%, gave up and went to bed with Xbox On all night.

Original install took less than 2 hours but not sure as Tv was on a different input.

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Shaz from GL writes: "Assassin’s Creed Unity is looked at as one of the worst in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. But playing it nearly 10 years later reveals it may just be the best"

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis520d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde520d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils520d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia520d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack520d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain520d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

staticall520d ago

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

anast520d ago

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
