Xbox One Sales Top 9 Million Worldwide

VGChartz Writes: "Microsoft's 8th generation home console, the Xbox One, has had an amazing holiday so far. The Xbox One has managed to sell more than nine million units worldwide.

The Xbox One sold 1,115,990 for the week ending November 29, 2014. That brings lifetime sales to 9,133,686 units, according to VGChartz. There has also been more than 34.6 million games sold for the Xbox One at retail."

Those are great numbers for the Xbox One. It has really made a comeback after the poor sales all year long.

It seems there is some insecurity among PS fans. According to VG chartz (which isn't reliable but is the best source for worldwide console sales especially considering MS and Sony will twist and bend the numbers to please stakeholders), PS4 still has 7million lead so i don't really understand why the insecurity.

Phil Spencer has made a huge difference at the helm. You have to remember though, that one of the reasons that the PS4 got such a massive head start was because it was $100.00 cheaper at launch, and for around the next 6 months after launch.

Gamers hated the PS3 so they all jump on ps4, the 360 was a great system, now that some 360 gamers are getting Xbox one the numbers are changing....in another year Xbox one will pass ps4, n I own both but love my x1

Thats the dumbest statement I've seen someone make on here. The ps3 has been outselling the 360 so I don't see how "people hated the ps3" and are jumping quickly on the ps4. What people fail to realize is that yes the Xbox one has been selling good but it has no way caused people to stop buying a ps4. The PS4 is still selling at a fast rate and that's without a price reduction, free games, bundles etc. I would understand if the sales of the ps4 actually dipped because of the Xbox one strong marketing tactics during the holidays but that's clearly not the case.

All it really took was the removal of kinect and a $50 price cut. The formula that has made sales increase is really not that complicated at all.

Aside from 2013 when both new consoles launched, December NPDs from 2007-2012 have increased in numbers over November.

And since both PS4 and XB1 sold a ton, that number, if history is any indication, will actually top Novembers number. And by a large margin, too.

That "temporary" price is only until early January. If they see such a huge boost in December as well, I can see the $350 staying, just without the bundled game.

It only took 2 price drops, 10 months, free games and Black Friday deals to beat Sony in NPD Nov. ( US only, if somebody think US=world. Sony beat Xbone globally in Nov. ) and you telling me that's a good job? NO! That's a not long term solution!

Just so you know Sony was being almost as aggressive as MS was. Most PS4 deals were a bundle + free game + $50 gift card. The X1 with all its deals sold for about $250 and the PS4 for about $299. IF someone wanted the PS4 they would not have bought the X1 for $50. NO ONE.

The reason the X1 sold so well is awesome games. PS4 will have a great first quarter. But don't you dare downplay how awesome the X1 did.

The problem with your argument is that the ps4 outsold the x1 way before the price drop. I'm not downplaying x1's success but the x1's success is due to its price drop during the November month.

A couple months ago MS said they were approaching 10 million shipped to retailers so I would assume at this point they have sold nearly 10 million to customers. At that time a couple months ago stores had no reason to have large stock on the shelves it wasnt the Holiday season yet. So if MS was approaching 10 shipped they were probably within 250k-500k of that number sold to customers.

Still way behind Sony who is dominating but I dont think they are doing bad at all.

Congrats to M$. They have a solid game lineup from Halo, Forza, Sunset Overdrive, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Titanfall etc. I can't see why any hardcore gamer wouldn't want to play these at some point this gen. Plus many more to come so looking forward to see what's next.

Yeah getting there but I'll wait for another price drop and the platinum classics range of cheap half price games, they got enough out of me last gen for nearly 9 years. Don't care how cheap it is in still going no where near Ryse.. Good to see xbox sales picking up no one wants to see a battering and someone going under but call me crazy still don't think xbox one will clear the 30-40 million consoles sold with the sheer amount of ps4's sold also wii u's vita and 3Ds's although not so much over here not to mention the still pretty good and commonly used PS3/360 there's plently of other options that and the RROD drove their console sales through the roof surprisingly but no doubt when it worked it was great, just a shame I had to purchase 4 separate brand new xbox 360's over the 9 years i was using 360, I'll wait for the more reliable and refined xbox one slim haven't got the space for it under the telly not to mention the time with all the other gaming greatness.. GAME ON!

These numbers are way off they have to be. MS announced earlier they were approaching 10 million units shipped to stores. If you assume that at that point a month or 2 ago when they said it that MS had shipped even a low estimate of 9 million to stores then they would have sold most of those because at that time of the year there was no reason to have a large supply of consoles on store shelves. Now they sold over 1 million consoles in November which I would say at least puts them at or close to 10 million sold.

VGChartz are a joke and yeah maybe I am wrong with my guess but I would be willing to bet that 9.8-10 million sold to customers is more accurate than 9.1 million

The problem is that Microsoft said that there would be 'soon' 10 million Xbox Ones shipped. That could mean anything, even total shipped by early next year. I think there has been too much spin this gen, Sony included. I do think that Xbox One would be about 10 million sold though after strong recent sale numbers.

Typically the console vendors will only have about one million units of inventory unsold at retail.

They know what their sell thru rates will be with pretty good accuracy. They can't really stuff more into channels because retailers will have problems moving them and then not ask for more stock. There has to be a nice even flow to the channel.
