Wow!. that is insane for real..my goodness.

Mr Pumblechook3418d ago

No wonder XBO has had great Black Friday sales in the UK, those games new are almost the value of the console!

Griever3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

MS has gone mad. They really do not care about making money at this point. This has turned in to a war of attrition where they do not care about sacrifices and losses and just want to win at all costs. This is just plain dumping and should be investigated under the US Antitrust Law for unfair business practices. They cannot compete legitimately so they are out-pricing the competition. 6 games alone are worth at least $300 dollars!

Concertoine3418d ago

@Griever

Did MS make this bundle?

Killz4Twinkies3418d ago

@ Griever

Besides being a troll and it being in Euros so i am assuming that it doesn't violate US antitrust laws. First of all most of those games outside of Halo MCC can be found for $20 or less as well as Halo for $40.

Second it is a great thing when the competition lowers their price as we've seen lately Sony is starting to offer some pretty sick bundles for $349-$400 with multiple games

In the end gamers win

hello123418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

Killtwinkies@ Its actually is the pound symbol! I use Euros that not the symbol for Euros

If it was Euros that would be an insane deal. 349 pounds is near enough 440 Euros. Plus you need a voucher to get the deal.

I paid 500 Euros for the x box 1 at launch that was with kinect and Fifa 14 digital.

I think they are calling this bundle as "look we have so much money we don't care as long as you buy the Xbox ONE NOW!!" bundle

or "we want to win UK as quickly as we can" bundle

or something along that line.

NuggetsOfGod3418d ago

Its good for gamers.

Wonder some people hate it?

badz1493418d ago

eh...I don't hate it but I do think this is kinda bullish from MS camp. it's like they know they have deep pocket and is on their way to "buy" the market instead of "earning" it.

Killz4Twinkies3418d ago

I am lucky enough to own both systems but prefer my PS4 to my XB1. One of the reasons i became such a Sony fan is when Xbox 360 beating PS3 pretty bad in the beginning of the last console cycle - Sony implemented similar tactics leading me to buy a PS3 for much cheaper than it had been and falling in love with Sony 1st party & PS Plus.

But lets not act like MS is the first one to give a way an electronic to gain market share with the hope that software/xbox live sales will makeup for the zero/lost revenue up front.

DonFreezer3418d ago

No matter how much lower the Xbox One price will fall the PS4 will always lead because Sony has made people so delusional that not even giving the console free would move it. Microsoft shouldn't have lowered the price since I thought thatthe One was better than the PS4 even without the price cut and it's games prove that.

Magicite3418d ago Show
hades073418d ago

MS needs to spend money to make money. Take a loss on consoles now to get them into consumers hands. If not it would be outsold by PS4 so much that they would lose 3rd party support and less consoles purchased in the future.

poor_cus_of_games3418d ago

Its not euros it's British sterling.

geddesmond3417d ago

Holy crap is right. What the hell is MS doing. Do they not want to make any money or something. Is UK and the US really that important? I ain't complaining though. MS keep up the deals and catch up to Sony so Sony can start giving us deals. I'm really tired of having to fork out 70-75 euros per game.

SPAM-FRITTER-1233417d ago

1. Shopto bought the console from MS and the games from the Devs.

2. Stopto are then selling it at their own price.

*******THIS IS NOT MICROSOFT'S PRICES******

Stop saying MS are losing money just to hurt Sony or breaking any laws.

Shopto now own that console and games and can sell it for what ever price they like.

They really don't care about losing money

mhunterjr3418d ago

Well they make their money from software and service sales...they can't sell software or services of people don't buy the hardware.

Their experiment in launching a console without a loss has been unsuccessful so they've reverted back to the model that has prevailed in this industry for the last 30 years... hardware as a loss leader...

Surely they plan to make money in the long run.

ninsigma3418d ago

Do they really lose money though?? haven't the console and games being given already been bought from the seller?? The money you give to shops don't go to MS because the shop has already paid MS for the product. Unless I'm wrong lol

Agent_hitman3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

I wonder if MS still get profit from that bundle since it includes 6 games.. Feels like they are really desperate to dethrone Sony.

torchic3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

they don't care about profits. it's all about pushing X1s into homes that could've had PS4s.

will be interesting to see Microsoft's FY15 Q2/Q3 earnings report.

also where do Microsoft go from here? they don't have a great 2015 game line-up and X1 will go back to the original price. will it be like Wii U, as in only selling well during holiday seasons? it'll be interesting to watch!

StrawberryDiesel4203418d ago

Agree, even though the PS4 has a huge lead there are still a ton of gamers who have yet to upgrade to a next gen console, this war is far from over. However, PS4 will surely see a huge surge in hardware between January and March with games like The Order and Bloodborne dropping while Xbone has nothing significant to match those games.

christocolus3418d ago

@torchic

Why is everyone all of a sudden concerned about MS financial report. Lmao. I'm gonna bet it will be great and healthy as usual. So don't bother. This is a competition and if sony was in MS position with access to the kind of funds they have they would be doing the same thing MS is doing. This is a great bundle to get fans to invest in the console and i bet it will sell out before christmas and what you talking about a ba 2015 line up? Screamride, Ori, Fable legends, Quantum Break, Halo5 and Tombraider and you call that a bad lineup? Or are you joking?Also remember Phil said they had some unannounced titles for 2015.no matter what you think, that lineup is far from bad. Its very good and I hope MS is ready to keep investing big into the xbox one cos next year will be a very interesting one.

torchic3418d ago

@christocolus

I just thought it would be interesting to see how much money the Xbox division had to throw at these holiday promotions. so that's why I want to see the quarter financials report. of course MSFT will post huge profits and all but I want to see the Xbox division numbers. that's pretty obvious.

and I didn't say that the Xbox One 2015 line up was bad, just "not great", especially compared to that of PS4. it's decent, good at best, but not what I would call "great"

Cutting the price to 350$ they are loosing money on every unit sold, so imagine how many $ is lost with these 6 game bundle.

They basicly lost money on each unit sold since pricecut.

Griever3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

They lost more than $60 million in November in US alone when they sold 1.2 million units at the discounted price. If we consider all the Xbox One sales since the discount, the gift cards, the vouchers and all the free games it would to amount to hundreds of millions of dollars of losses worldwide just for this holiday season!

fermcr3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

According to rumours the X1/PS4 cost almost $400 to manufacture... a year and a half ago.
Don't you think it's much cheaper to manufacture those consoles by now? At this moment they are probably lesser then $300 to manufacture.

Death3418d ago

Do you have any shred of proof that Microsoft has lost a nickel with any unit sold? We are talking a $50 reduction after a year.

As for the games, they are all between $19.99 and $39.99 on Amazon now. It's about $150 worth of games at retail. You are getting all 6 games for about $70 (The deal is $399 without a coupon code). It's a great deal for sure, but hardly Microsoft giving them away since this is a limited retail promotion, not a console bundle. It's amazing that you can look at a promotion from Rakuten and say Microsoft is doing it.

Griever3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

@Death

Do you have any proof that they havent?? Because according to the most recent report, the Xbox One is manufactured at $400. The burden of proof lies on you to prove that the manufacturing cost has decreased. Some common sense and a little accounting knowledge is enough to estimate if a business is incurring a loss or not. It is just the first year of the console. A new product has fixed costs and variable costs. The fixed costs include the R&D costs for researching, developing and launching the product. The variable costs include the routine costs involved in manufacturing, distribution and marketing of the product. The company's first concern with the launching of a new product is to recover the fixed costs along with the routine variable costs. They will break even and truly earn a profit only when they recover the R&D costs spent over the years on developing the product. Here is the formula,

Fixed Costs/Price - Variable Costs = Breakeven Point in Units

They have to sell a certain number of units at profit to break even and finally earn profit. As a result, no company can afford to drop the price of the product within the first year. A company that drops the price in first year and sacrifices its profit will not be able to recover the fixed costs and break-even so they will not be able to make a profit. You have to sell the unit at significant profit to recover the fixed costs and then continue to reap the profits after a couple of years of launching the product. Yes, they can earn profits from software and digital services but are they enough to cover all the costs and then leave some profit?

EDIT: I wold love to give you my thoughts on those reports, Death. First of all, you need to understand is that "revenue" does means "profit." The formula for calculating profit is as under

Revenue - Cost = Profit

The revenue increased by 34% to $1.7 billion but the cost increased by 72% to $2.1 billion! Now do the math for calculating a profit.

Profit = $1.7 billion - $2.1 billion = -$400 million loss

Do you see a profit there? Is it clear now? This is just one quarter. I did not bother looking at the other.
As for that link for the bundle. One bundle is not the issue here. It is the overall business strategy and practice. Bundles and promotions are a part of the holiday season but what MS is doing is a wider strategy of outpricing the competition and MS is known to do that. Remember how they were fined for unfair business practices in the browser market in the EU? Do you see Sony implementing a holiday price cut on PS4? Offering two free games of your choice? That is what I am talking about. You cannot sell the product at a extraordinary heavy loss in order run your competitor out of business or beat him and then recover the money later by monopolizing the market and charging whatever you want. That is dumping and an unfair business practice.

Death3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

The burden of proof is on me? I'm not claiming they are losing money. I would think people making unsubstantiated claims would need proof. Their last financials show them making close to a billion in profit in the division followed by half a billion. That doesn't sound like breaking even.

They lost $600 million in November? The hardware alone had revenue of $420 million assuming the average price was $350. The $50 price cut times 1.2 million is $60 million dollars, not $600 million like you claim.

Here are the last 2 quarterly results for the division housing Xbox. Microsoft had $479 million in profit the last quarter alone as you can see on the chart to the right. Let's assume you are correct and Microsoft is losing $50 on each console sold. How much of an impact do you see $60 million having on profits of a half billion? Once again this is assuming as loss is made and they are making no additional profit on games and services.

http://www.microsoft.com/In...

http://www.microsoft.com/In...

You really couldn't be much further off with your billions lost assessment.

By the way, in case you missed it: http://www.rakuten.co.uk/sh... Would love to hear your thoughts on this deal.

christocolus3418d ago

@Death

Thanks for stating facts,providing actual links and using common sense to prove your point unlike some others here. Now the issue and complaints from some gamers in here is that MS is loosing money..lmao. How is that their business? Those complaining don't even own xbox ones. Its funny how they reason. I said this befor and ill say it again. MS didn't become the worlds 2nd richest company by making bad business deceisions. They will do all it takes to keep xbox ones momentum going. This is great for gamers and those who plan to pick up xbox ones in the future and there is nothing wrong with that. Sony would be doing same if they had resources similar to that of MS and I'm willing to bet that MS next financial report will be great once again.no amount of hate will change that. Sadiya nadella has promised to keep pushing and investing in the brand and so far they've done a great job. 2015 will be awesome too.

Oh my god, is everyone on N4G this ignorant? This isn't MS making the deal, but the retailer. Theyre clearing stock with a big bundle.

MS isn't directly losing squat from this because the retailer already bought the console. They might lose out on some software sales, but how many people were buying Murdered Soul Suspect and COD Ghosts anyway? The only remarkable deals in this bundle are Alien and Halo, everything else can be bought for cheap.

Kiwi663417d ago (Edited 3417d ago )

Exactly right but hey according to some ignorant people if it's xbox its because MS set the price even if its an independant retailer and not a decision of said retailer who made the bundle to compete with others for the xmas shopper

NuggetsOfGod3418d ago

http://www.joystiqm/2013/11...

The ps4 cost $381 to make and sold for $400
Gddr5 is probably much more expensive than ddr3.

Maybe Ms is still profiting or breaking even.

Least we see why both console are weak and won't last long.

These companies don't don't want to take big loses anymore.

Xb 360 sold 6mil+ first year.
Xbo sold sold 8mil+ first year.

Yet people Xbox id failing.
If Xbox only sells more than 360 did life time I wouldn't worry about out selling ps4 if I were them.

Just bring games!

Cracking bundle. Shame it's not Horizon and Advanced Warfare instead.

Blues Cowboy3418d ago

Now that's true. Don't know if there's much trade value for Ghosts and Forza is a download, but it might be possible to sell them on with Murdered to offset one of those games.
