It's a big idea. I think they've bit off a lot to chew, and they're doing the best they can. But Sony seems happy to support them, so hopefully they'll be able to get some sweet gameplay mechanics going.

I was talking with my son the other day about how much better Destiny would have been with No Man's Sky's travel system.

The more I see about this game, the more I think people are going to really over hype it. It sounds like this will be simply an exploration game, plain and simple, but people are making it out to be something much more.

It's literally Mirrormoon EP (google it), just with more procedural generation. Great concept, only make sure you don't have crazy expectations and think it's something it isn't.

I did the opposite and I've been watching/reading every interview and every trailer, I pretty much know every detail released so far about the game and now I know exactly what to expect. I'm still really looking forward to it!

A game is only overhyped if you yourself buy into what everyone is saying. Just be smart and look at what Hello Games have made in the past and remember that they are a 10 person team.

This game is being touted as great and was thought to be a space minecraft but it seems it's going to be go from planet to planet and do nothing but sight seeing. The more info that gets released it just tells you what you can't do. It's like saying here is the universe, enjoy it with flaying and walking, stay off the grass. Or going to disneyworld and being told you can walk around and look but don't touch.

I've been askiing since the day it was revealed why on earth people are hyping this. I don't understand the appeal of exploring randomly generated world's with little to no interaction or objectives.
It sounds like a tech demo.

You actually scavenge each planet you visit for precious resources and you do mine for them. There are robotic enemies created by an ancient alien race that will come after you when you alter a planet to much by mining and killing animals. You do have a weapon that can be upgraded. You can upgrade weapon stats and suit stats. You can't upgrade your ship, but you can buy new ships with the upgraded features. The main goal of the game is to get to the center of the galaxy, which should take between 40 hours to 100 hours. All of this info came from the new issue of GameInformer. There will be a lot of other features that Hello Games says they don't want to show because they want players to discover it for themselves. I think this game looks fantastic. Easily my most anticipated indie title. I think the reason it is so hyped is because you rarely see such a big ambitious title coming from such a small team.

I admit I haven't read into this game at all as I was left more confused and uninterested than anything at the reveal.
I'll keep a distant eye on it when it's released and see how well it goes down before I write it off completely.

I think the goal to reach the center of the world will make a lot of gamers want to race for it so the first one will have their name tag on the plant to be the first who discovered it.

I wouldn't say tech demo. It is just it's own kind of game. An exploration game where exploration is the main focus.

But yeah, there are many gamer over hyping this game and make it look like more then it might be at the end. Looking at all the videos so far this game is not targeting FPS or RPG gamers. Currently it is for those who just love exploration like Star Trek without the drama, social interactions and action :D

Well our universe is constantly expanding but there is a center....So that's the way I look at No Mans Sky. New stars are being born and new planets form everyday but the center of our galaxy remains a constant.

It's not infinite. I don't know why this list says it is. It's based on a mathematical formula. There are a finite number of stars and planets.

No Man’s Sky’s universe is infinite - because it's randomly generated with no thought put into any of it.

You can’t customize your ship - REALLY? Thats the whole point of almost every space game since Trade Wars 2000.

You can play the game with your friends (although Murray’s previously said not to think of it as a multiplayer game) - The universe is infinite. You are going to start off millions of light years away from anyone else. It will take forever to get the technology that will allow you to meet up with the closest stranger. Even if you accidentally run into a random person, you might think they are AI. If more then a handful of people end up in the same sector the game will break. Which means greeters will do this as often as possible.

You can take pictures.You can swim underwater.You can chop down a tree. - OMFG GOTY

You can choose to be a pacifist (although that doesn’t mean you won’t get attacked). - this is sounding more and more like Starbound.

Some planets are the size of Earth. - so not only do you have to find a planet with someone on it, you have to find them on a planet the size of Earth. They probably make you have to walk there in real time speed.

You’ll sometimes get bored playing it. - Understatement of the year.

you can’t build a shelter. - so why would I cut down a tree?.

There is a shop. - So you pay real $ to do anything fun?

There are no non-player characters. - wait no multilayer and no NPCs, so it's just interacting with animals? Starbound!!!

You can’t terraform a planet. - Even Starbound lets you do this.

The shops use in-game currency.

And you aren't supposed to find people. You'll be lucky if you ever run into a friend. Why is that a bad thing?

You explore. You mine. You kill robots. You upgrade weapons and suits. The end goal is to get to the black hole at the center of the universe. I imagine that will be difficult.

Starbound is fun, but incredibly broken in its current state. Planet Explorers might be a better comparison.

I just re-read your list of complaints for a laugh. It's really silly, but I think you know that.

Customizing ships isn't "the whole point of almost every space game since Trade Wars 2000".

It would be an easy thing to identify and punish players who consistently go to the same place and cause whatever problems that causes, but that won't even be possible in the game for quite awhile.

You don't "have to find a planet with someone on it" and even if you did you'd be flying, not walking.

You'd cut down a tree to sell the material somewhere else. You have a ship. Why would you need to build a shelter?

The shop is in game currency.

You have to sell the above mentioned tree to someone, so no you're not interacting with just animals.

How many space games DON'T let you terraform a planet?

Whether the game is fun to you or not is your business, but anyone who recognizes your name could easily theorize about why you're trying so hard to downplay it. I suggest trying a little harder to not be so obvious.

Those are all playable music visualisation games.

They made it pretty clear already that there is a purpose to why you are exploring. Hiw in depth that is still has to be seen.

They also made it pretty clear that you would not be able to upgrade your ship, but that you can buy new ones.

To the people who are complaining about the things the game doesn't have... You need to realize two things: 1. The current trend of video game development and 2. What this game really is.
First, you know why every game these days has some form of customization and crafting system? It's to artificially pad the game with content by having to scavenge (read: grind) for items. Sure, some games benefit from it or the theme of the game supports it. Does assassin's creed or far cry really benefit from having to kill X number of tigers for pelts to craft the next size up ammo pouch (of ten sizes)? No, but it's addicting, and it keeps you in their world longer so they don't have to spend extra time actually giving you more REAL content.
Which brings us to point number two. This is a game about exploration. That's it. Not a survival game, not a ship builder, not a game about building and customizing your ideas. If you want that, there are games out there already. What there ISN'T already though, is a game that is filled with an - for all intents and purposes - infinite universe to explore, filled with something new. If you've ever been curious about what lies past the horizon, then there's a reason that can be satisfying to some people.
What I appreciate about this game is that the developers aren't saying "you know, to maximize sales, we should include pvp death match and ctf, to get the fps crowd, and add crafting and building to capitalize on the minecraft generation, and we should fill it with features like ship customization even though that's not what the game is about - exploration." They're not catering, they're not padding, they're not doing any of that because of a simple reason: the game stands on its own. They don't need to pad, because there's an infinite amount of content. They don't want to add ridiculous buzzword features, because the game is about one thing, and they don't want to ruin that idea with crap.
If you dont like it, then you don't like it. But look at Proteus and Journey. Two examples of very well received games that definitely benefited from the old adage: Less is more. (especially in an infinite universe)

Given this list, I agree with number 15 personally. While I am excited for No Man's Sky but it is not the sort of game I can spend hours a day playing it and I will surely get bored of playing it.

But that does not mean bored all together. It is something I'll be playing off and on.

I am predicting this game coming out sometime mid 2015.
