As with the original version of Destiny that shipped in September 2014, the only way to reach the level cap is to obtain Raid gear. (Bungie subsequently altered this so gear pieces delivered via the Iron Banner PVP event would also bring you closer to the cap, and this will likely continue when Iron Banner returns, but if the principles remain the same then you will still need at least some Raid gear.)
Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.
That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it
For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

I'm NOT hating on Bungie, but I own this game and I'm sorry to relay it's the most substance poor MMO wannabe I ever played.
Prior to launch, Destiny had soooo much potential...Activision has totally reduced the game to nothing more than a DLC vending conduit!

People still play this game?
Do the raid, get the gear, and collect an ass ton of shards. I dont see anybody being 32 for another 2-3 weeks, maybe less if you have 3 characters, and get lucky with nothing but shard drops from the raid. or if you hit rank 4 with Eris and you trade in energy for shards but even that will take about 1-2 weeks to get.
