Nah they matter to a point (install base= healthy dev support but let's be honest given both systems last gen performance these consoles sales would have to be waaay lower than Wii u sales before dropping support would even be considered/it's not going to happen) and truth is sales are equally discussed when npd says ps4 was the best selling console= I can show you every month just about every site doing a story about sales. At the same time they aren't important to the individual consumer as long as he's enjoying the games for whatever console he purchased, thankfully after the Xbox fans celebrate give it a day or two and nobody really cares, then wait for whatever month ps4 is atop npd or every other day when a sony fan offers unknown worldwide numbers and sure enough a xbox fan will come here to say "I thought sales don't matter?"

Microsoft never got in the wrong direction to begin with.It was the ridiculous Sony fud that put them into that place. People are starting to realize that PS4 awaits for greatness for far to long. We have the holiday Christmas ads here in Greece and they're showing PES 2015, NBA 2K5 and Far Cry 4 as their games. A console that takes advantage of the clueless people who will think that those MULTI-platform games will only appear on the ps4 will soon let them down. XB1 still has $349 offer leading through December NPD, Sales in December are going to be a lot. For reference last year was "Microsoft sold 908,000 Xbox Ones in December." Then you add the fact they/retailers could do more crazy offers in December. Like I said a similar gap would mean gap would be 400k+ instead of 1.2m it was 2 months ago if things go the way of november for december.

People are laughing because not only did they lower their price, they made it lower than the ps4's. Along side the fact that this was all done in less than a year of the consoles life.

The ps3's first price drop after its release was to $499 in Aug 2007... the xbox 360 was selling for $399... They didn't undercut them to make sales lol. That would have made them look so desperate. Like microsoft currently.

Grant it I don't think they made a bad sales decision. But it just adds more of a stigma to the company which is what matters... If your company has a bad stigma and another company that sells similar products doesn't people will go to the other company. Duh...

400,000 is a lot more than the 70,000 they were trying to pull off here on N4G earlier.

The main thing to take away here, is that what m$ did in November worked. The had a very good run of high quality games, a price cut and some of the best bundles a gamers could dream of. 1.2 mil more X1 gamers in one month is great for X1 in the U.S.

I wanna post this on so many ass hats' comments. I said this a month ago. I own both consoles and because I capitalized on the MS price drop as well in November. When I got my XB1 there were 3 other people getting them too. This was the first day they went on sale. While I was in line on black friday to get a 50 inch TV there we at least 4-5 people buying XB1's and no playstation 4 bundles. Why? Because they bundled them with old remastered games. FAIL. Never do that. Anyway, I said that when the smoke clears, Xbox will have better November numbers than PS4 and will continue through the holiday season. I guarantee that.

Looks like you are about as clueless as I expected.

None of the games you mentioned in that weak, half-assed response are coming in to the first 6-8 months. Your Xbone has no AAA exclusives in that time frame. You have invested in a console that only delivers in the holiday season and the rest of the year, you can only expect inferior multiplatform games and indie games that you have chosen to ignore. PS4 has more of everything year-round including AAA games.

None of the games from any of the studios I mentioned are producing indie titles. Their games are as ambitious and as large as any of the games you mentioned. Even RiME from Tequila Works has 5 large island worlds. Most AAA developers don't create games as large as that.

Honestly if MS didn't win NPD for November then it was over for them. Price drop and 2 to even 3 free games with every console during holiday season. Of course they would win it.

It all rests on the next few months now. I think they'll get December too but not by a 400k difference. I'd say more like 50-100k difference as there's no black friday to get everyone out buying in such large numbers.

January NPD will tell us the impact the price drop has had on sales. MS needed this too stay in the game but I fear the first half of next year might put them even further behind Sony as Sony releases some big exclusives then. Maybe MS should make the price drop a permanent one.

From another article the values that are widely accepted as “accurate” are ~1,240,000 for the Xbox One an ~840,000 for the PS4. However these figures are for the US and the UK so it will be interesting to see how this breaks down for each county.

Here in Australia the XB1 + Kinnect and 7 games is selling for A$499 (US$412) compared to the PS4 + 5 games at AU$598 (US$493). The prices I quoted are including tax. Basically in Australia the XB1 + Kennet has always been only AU$50 more than the PS4 however Australia is a small market compared to the US, UK, Europe and Asia so Microsoft can afford to be "generous".

This time Microsoft has basically purchased their so called win but at what cost. Some have put this at over US$600 million which seems like a "pyrrhic victory" to me. Even with Microsoft's huge reserves of money doing this too often will get your shareholder off-side.

BTW a quick web search will confirm the figures I have given however it probably safer to wait for the "official" figures.

The only features that were taken away on the PS3 were PS2 backwards comparability (Boo!) and the ability to boot another OS (lets be honest here who really used this?).

If you want to nitpick then 4 USB's reduced to 2, card readers removed (who used this?) and touch buttons replaced with physical buttons. If these were the items that you somehow find unpalatable with no workaround then I really do feel sorry for you.

Functionally there were only two things totally removed from the PS3 and those I have already mentioned in the first paragraph.

BTW. All PS3 do have PS1 backwards compatibility.

It's amazing I still have yet to see anyone mention that Xone sales GREW year over year from 909,000 last November to 1,223,000. That's 25% GROWTH. SONY fell from 1,145,000 last November to 823,000, a 28% DECLINE. What console sells less in year 2 then in year 1. Sony really is in trouble if this keeps up. Nintendo went from 310,000 to 245,000 a 21% DECLINE. Not as bad as PS4, but at this level, Wii U is in GameCube or Dreamcast Territory.

That's a huge discount. You're posting nothing but spin and damage control. GTA V and TLOU are the biggest games on PS4. That bundle was expected to be the big holiday seller. Gamestop had so many leftover they had to start giving away a free camera with the bundle after black friday. The whole situation is an embarrassment for Sony. It's also a dire sign of things to come.

Xbox One was either two Assassin Creed games or one Halo title for $350. That's only a $50 price break. That's not much of a deal and yet the system wiped the floor with the competition.

I have a wiiu , ps4 , pc ,vita, 3ds plus all of the old systems minus a few. Where are the Blue Dragon , Lost Odyssey type games? Anyway since they both launched at same time , they will both be close like last gen , but playstation will probably be the leader like most uears because of the broad scope of games over the entirety of the generation.
