deep down is f2p so its on ps because it means every player can play regardless of there online status. With Xbox you cannot play F2P without live unlike with PS4. That had to be a major factor in Deep Down..

Change of strategy? Sony has been getting 3rd party exclusives and timed exclusives since the PS1. Way before the Xbox was even created. This isn't anything new for Sony. I could easily list 3rd party exclusives on every Playstation platform. Microsoft has done this as well since they got into the business. This happens every generation. I'm not too worried. Hopefully Sony won't have to sell anymore buildings or 3rd party stocks.

What kneon said. I've been saying for a while that sales DO matter not just to an investor, but to a gamer. Higher sales relative to other consoles = higher probability of developers focusing on that console, if they're only going to pick one. Also, the worse one console sells, the cheaper paid exclusivity is for the competing party. This applies to all technology, really.

It's been that way for a very long time and it was cemented with the PS1. It's not going to change.

We do all have a choice, we can buy both systems. It may not be entirely ideal for everyone but on a positive note, I'd rather have competing companies that are forced to innovate and drive down prices for us - the consumers. If you remember those days so "vividly" then you must remember the fact that he PS1 and PS2 destroyed the competition, 150m PS2 vs 20-25m GC's and Xbox's. More or less in the same fashion as the DS and 3DS did to the PsP and Vita. That's why so many games like Persona Q and Monster Hunter 4 are exclusive to 3DS.

Now the case of Tomb Raider, Dead Rising, etc. it's clearly money hat shenanigans and SFV is most likely too and MS where the ones that started this 3rd party bidding war.

And THAT has been going on since the dawn of video gaming. In fact, the recent trend of damn near every 3rd party game being on every platform is kind of unusual in the history of gaming. Back in the day, if a game WAS cross-platform, it was often so different from one platform to the next as to effectively be a completely different game.

It's because people misrepresent their financial situation, they're not liable for bankrupsy anytime soon and even if they were the Playstation brand is unlikely Sony would either a) close portions of the business hemorrhaging money to pay debt or b) the Playstation brand itself becomes its own company.

In either instance, while Sony have a high chance of financial difficulties in the upcoming years, it's very unlikely to affect their most profitable division. In fact any reduction in Sony's focus elsewhere would probably help the Playstation brand.

Yes it is a fact they are not making much profit. $1.08Billion to be exact and $8.08 billion dollars on hand as of May of 2014.

They are $12.52 Billion in debt. Which most people think is a lot but as an investor as myself its not hard for Sony to overcome.

Their market cap is abysmal low however. Thats what Sony needs and wants to fix. They have a foot in many doors of businesses, they just need to step out of some of them or close them temporarily or for good. It just takes good strategy and patience

They still have a pool of assets worth $148.98 Billion which is still considered financially healthy.

Exclusivity is healthy and I support it wholeheartedly... in terms of first-party games. Striving to outclass each other with head-to-head exclusive series keeps quality up.

But in terms of third-parties, I'm pretty sick of it, though it certainly makes buying choices much more interesting.

Though it also makes the PC an even more viable purchase/mainstream gaming platform IMO. As soon as someone really cracks affordable small form factor PCs with comparable specs and an accessible UI, the choice between a console and an HTPC becomes even more difficult.

Not sure how relevant fighting games are outside of party games like SSBM. SS4 was only the 35th best selling title on the PS3. Tekken 6 was #2 at 57th. Mortal Combat was #3 at 62. If you took all 154 fighting titles for the PS3 (including wrestling, MMA and boxing) they moved 47mm titles. That's roughly 5% of total PS3 software sales.

I think the best way to do these going forward is to make them F2P, focus on online and sell each character unlock for $5 and costumes for $1. Most people are no longer willing to shell out $60 to play against the computer - because generally the AI just isn't there and they have to cheat to up the challenge level.

So yeah - no one will buy a PS4 for a $60 retail version of SF5.

They existed in small numbers last gen as well. It's a trend I'd very much like to see die off, and money poured into genuine first party exclusives instead.

Three things.

One: Tomb Raider had a much larger fanbase on PS and PC than Xbox. I don't think there's a single game in the franchise where the best selling version was the one for Xbox... unless it was ONLY available on Xbox. And I'm not even sure such a game exists. From this perspective, it's a slap in the face to the larger, older contingent of their fanbase. With Street Fighter, they're cutting off their smaller fanbase- not that that's right to do- and also focusing on a larger userbase at a time when the company making the game is having some financial issues, anyway.

Two: I think you'll notice- if you care to look- that most PS fans actually don't care for the move. After Tomb Raider, Titanfall, and Dead Rising, surely you can see the sense in Sony striking back in a similar fashion? Furthermore, Street Fighter is arguably a larger franchise than any of the aforementioned three, currently, making this a bigger potential blow to Microsoft than any of those were to Sony.

Three: We don't know any of the particulars of the deal. So, for all we know, Sony could have helped with development, as they did with Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, and another Capcom title in Deep Down. That would definitely make it different than the Tomb Raider deal, as there's no way in hell Square Enix was going to have problems funding the game.

I'm with you, as far as not liking the practice, but seeing it for the business move that it is. But I don't see all this hypocrisy folks on the Xbox side keep screaming about, since every non-fanboy aligned with Sony has disagreed with the practice.

Start? Sony held third-party exclusives throughout the PSone and PS2 era's. The reason that wasn't the case with the PS3 was because of the early-commercial failure. Since the PS4 is doing so well now, there's no doubt that third parties will shift back to PS4 console exclusivity.

Im actually glad. I always buy my fighters on PS by default(with exception of KI). The DS was just better for fighting games. Tho the Xbox One dpad not bad, but still, PS4 it is then.

A bidding war? That's playing right into Microsoft's hands.

Aside from Playstation, Sony's financials overall are weak, they don't have the financial flexibility to divert cash to other divisions as freely as Microsoft can.

Sony literally can't afford to get into never ending bidding wars with Microsoft. It may won some and lose some, sure, but the expenses will take a greater toll on Sony than they ever would with Microsoft.

I think its too late for that. MS were already doing it. But sony getting something this big, just sends the message to MS that the gloves are off, and that they should not hold back on getting big exclusives.

Not that much of a trend. PS3 and 360 both had some huge third party exclusives. Many of the bigger ones quite late in their cycle. Ni No Kuni and Splinter Cell Conviction, for instance. Or Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gears of War.

Well, if MS is starting a third party bidding war it would be foolish of Sony not to get in on it. Don't worry though MS fanboys, Capcom releases so many versions of their fighting games that even if this one turns out to be a permanent console exclusive, the possibility of seeing other versions of this game on the XB1 exists. That is unless Sony paid for console exclusivity of every version of SF5, which is unlikely but I suppose it's possible though that would be far more expensive than paying for one game.

To those saying that it's just because of market share, I highly doubt that's the case...yet. The PS2 had a lot of third party exclusives but it literally dominated the console market. The PS4 is leading by a wide margin so far, but not that wide. The XB1 is doing well enough that I doubt a company like Capcom would ignore it unless there was some money involved. The PS4 might dominate enough eventually, but it's way too early to predict that.

No it would be stupid for Microsoft to get in a bidding war with Sony. Sony has significantly more money coming in to their game department and third party exclusively would be much cheaper for Sony because they have twice the install base and PS4 is a little easier to develop for.

I was thinking the same about this clown.... Streetfighter is, according to this gaming genius, not an importantly huge a$$ franchise in the West.... Streetfighter is Capcoms biggest franchise in THE WEST, EAST, SOUTH & NORTH corners of the globe.. If it wasn't so huge, then they wouldn't release 10 versions of SF4 in one gen... hahahhahaha... Now with Sunset Overdrive (I bought a XBOne with & for this game)...... I said that all this crap throwing at Sony fans, would come back & bite nasty little MS fanboys....& I was right, IF THIS TURNS OUT TO BE TRUE....IF?....

Now, if this is true, make no mistake, this is a massive blow to MS's campaign to make ground on Sony... BUT, I really think AT BEST, the game will only be timed exclusive.... I'd love to be wrong & see it FULL exclusive, as Sony needs some 3rd party exclusive LOVE...but I highly doubt Capcom would be doing that. I would say, 3 or 6 months down the road, XBOne will get Super SF5.... Kind of like PS3 got NG:Sigma..
