Sega was less a rival, more a “war buddy” during the PSone era, SCE WWS boss says

Sony is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the PlayStation this week. President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House and SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida both spoke with Famitsu, and translated by Gematsu.

I wonder what he meant hmmm

I mean MS plays by the rules right right ? ;)

Miss those days of gaming

Microsoft came in with soo many underhand tactics and douchebags like greenburg ..they really changed the views of many in gaming an not for the better

I mean look at the efforts they have gone to to win one month for bragging rights, was soo cheap i bought one (ruggeddabawse) just because im a gamer..i got four games a 50pound cash back voucher and a white console all for 329.

Good for the consumer ..but what about the early adopters? Was this price cut temporary or was that a lie? Why last gen we had sold through numbers now it's shipped?I thought xboxone was built around kinect? Why did phil say kinect would not be unbundled?Their youtube account using the competitions footage whilst claiming its theirs!Greenburg lying about tombraider saying it was a full exclusive..

This is my point... Ms are So untrustworthy

NukaCola3430d ago

^^^ This

I mean there have always been fanboys and console wars...yadda yadda yadda. But it has always been in good taste and these companies have done nothing but bettered each other in their rivalry to bring the best experiences to the home.

When Microsoft got into the business, it was never about games. It was about monopolizing the industry. They used ever sleazy and grimy douche marketing ploy to manipulate and sliver into the industry. They spend million in Ads, not on games. They bought DLC and Timed Exclusives which was not to better the game, it was to force the gamer through disgusting bribery and almost blackmail into buying the product on their system.

Microsoft bought ODDWORLD, a PS known series and put it on Xbox. Was using it to become the mascot. Then marketing execs found HALO. Added the stupid subtitle "Combat Evolved" and abandoned Oddworld as they focused all their resources on this one franchise they used to build their industry as they ran Bungie to the bone.

I am not saying Xbox is bad, nor are the games...but Microsoft is probably the worst thing to ever happen to the gaming industry. Any company that looks only at games as a money making scheme and not a form of art should not be allowed to be apart of this community.

Mechanism3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Exactly, MS fans act like there are no legitimate reasons to dislike MS as a company.. They are the dirtiest of the dirt.

I like the console and the games to an extent.. Dislike the company.

TheNew13430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@Ballsack

Not for the good? What about Xbox Live changing the way online gaming for consoles was? And buying exclusives...it's a business and Sony do the same thing. You fanboys act like Sony is almighty and never does anything bad. Why haven't they gave you all driveclub on PS+ yet? Why do they keep crushing people dreams of having the last guardian...it goes on and on.

FriedGoat3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@Thenew1

yeah, paying monthly subscriptions for peer to peer gaming was an innovation the gaming industry needed. especially when I was on my PC where dedicated servers were standard.

Now peer to peer is showing up in games where is shouldn't, even on PC!

HammadTheBeast3430d ago

Here's the deal. Sure, you can argue that MS has made some fantastic games, cause they have. Xbox if you have it is a fine console.

But MS also ruined the industry quite a bit, and that's a fact.

I remember those days with fond memories, i had a PS1, it was a glorious time to be a gamer.
However, i find gaming these days to be a toxic experience, all four big platforms fanboys spitting vile insults at each other.

Volkama3430d ago

Ah those days would have been just as bad if everyone had easy access to a poorly moderated forum like N4G.

SniperControl3430d ago

@Volkama

When i was at school or college, alot of my mates would own a broad range of gaming devices Sega, Ninty, PS, Amiga and Atari, there would be a alot of banter between us about who owned the best gaming device, but it was never nasty or malicious and personnel as it is these days.

I dunno, maybe i'am looking back through rose tinted glasses, i just find those days to be a more happy gaming experience.

Volkama3430d ago

Yeah I'm old too! I remember the banter as it used to be. I just don't think it is because people were any better then, or because the audience for games has got less mature over time. We just didn't have the internet so widely available for spouting off nonsense.

I don't generally have much faith in the character of people though. I think most often the difference between the good ones and the bad ones is just circumstance, and back then the circumstances were different. Today's connected world just lends itself to toxicity and spitting.

Note I am not actually disagreeing with you. Things were definitely different back then, I'm just rambling off about the reasons.

Bubiii3430d ago

Looks like XboxOne is the new "war buddy" and we all know what happened to their last "war buddy" Sega's Dreamcast.

BitbyDeath3429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

They aren't a war buddy. Sony and Sega were war buddies fighting for the same thing. Gamers. Ms are rivals as they fight for their own pocket and care less about who they crush to get there.

MONOLITHICIDE3430d ago

Next sony system. The sony playstation sega

SegaGamer3430d ago

Or, The Sony Sega Mega Dreamstation :P

Now try saying that five times fast :D

kayoss3430d ago

"Sega was less a rival, more a “war buddy” during the PSone era..."
At the end Sega ended up taking the bullet.

I loved sega so much and I still love Sonic as much as before honestly sony were fantastic too so I had both consoles the playstation and the saturn also the dreamcast down the line.
So I like to see those two sharing some great relationship with each.
I swear if one of the sega management saw my excitement for sonic heroes announcement on ps2 am quite sure they might get some tears hahaa yeah I was like finally the reunion between me and sonic happened.
Hopefully things get better and better for sony and sega and also for nintendo as I always respect them.

WonderboyIII3430d ago

SEGA was king, now they need someone to buy them.

sonic9893430d ago

I hope they get better on their on without anyone buying them.

MWH3430d ago

I once wrote:

"is there anyone left in SEGA? those who helped build its reputation back in the days may be all gone and it's being ran by a bunch of stock holder farts and unimaginative impassionate software developers.

SEGA's games library is among the richest in the industry and yet they managed to become the company who makes the fast-food of gaming of the worst kind!

it's sad to see it reduced this much because SEGA relates to some of our childhood's fondest most beautiful and richest memories."

Volkama3430d ago

Typically when Sega announce a sequel or revival for one of their many special IPs it makes me a little sad. Sad because the talent that made those games great has long since departed, so the game we'll get is just an afront to my fond memories.

GokuSolosAll3430d ago

Anyone begging for turn-based these days needs to thank casuals. They love action. Look what they did to MGS, FF, and RE, just to name a few.

GokuSolosAll3430d ago

Btw I know RE and MGS are not turn-based but I consider them to all be similar in the sense that they were "intelligent" games. Now look at them...

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken25d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake26d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Jingsing26d ago

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol

SEGA’s Switch Predecessor: What Happened to the Nomad?

Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
