If Unity hadn't been such a technical shambles, I'd have disagreed and suggested that online-centric games should only really be reviewed once servers are populated. You wouldn't try to review an MMORPG before players were actually in the world, would you?

BUT Unity was a shambles, and it's justifiably coloured our perceptions of The Crew. Either way, this is a seriously risky pre-order.

I was part of the Beta, and I barely saw any players in 12 hours of gameplay. The online racing lobbies didn't function correctly. It has some customization and other stuff that attracts me, but the full product seems weak.

I just cannot trust anything coming from ubisoft as of late. With games liKe ACU completely broke, and the downgrades in other titles , I'm just really hoping for the best with The Division. If they do is wrong with that title I think ubisoft is done.

Btw : shouldn't reviewers review games or have reviews out in time so gamers can have some objectivity on the game? It's like they want people to impulse buy because it's the new "thing" and in final result we get possible trash and broken games.

you can still do a partial review even if the game isn't open to the public yet. like how the cars handle, how it performs and looks graphically. stuff like that. i do agree some games should get post reviews if online play is included.

To be fair, shouldn't the gaming media feel a little accountable for this? IGN I think have a better review process but these things could potentially be avoided if many websites didn't rush their reviews and say began with an "Early Impressions" preview of the final product. In today's age especially with more open world games, content rich online experiences, it's a little unfair to prematurely review games.

PS: This is a rant in general about the review process, considering Ubi's track record, I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt.

The problem is all of them have bad glitches which Ubi haven't fixed :(

Child Of Light PS3/PS4 (Game freezes and PS4 can't gift)

Valiant Hearts PS3/PS4 (Crashes a hell of a lot and sometimes items are impossible to interact with requiring a restart)

Watch Dogs PS4 (I didn't play this till recently, but the game does crash now and again)

Unity and FC4 I've avoided due to reading the complaints of major bugs/glitches in each.

That's not to mention all their older games that are broken as hell too :(

I like the ideas/concepts of their games, but I wish Ubi would get some QC :/

FC4: have some tolerable issues
WD: playable but unoptimized even with the latest patch
ACU: my GTX 750 ti is much lower than the announced requirement
but according to youtube it'll work
I'll wait for the sales then I'll decide

I play FC4 on 1080/60fps but on low settings (it looks better than FC3 on ultra)
I don't expect someone spent >$2000 this year on a PC to accept playing less than 1080/120fps on ultra

You have a point, but it's still a beta. Can't accurately judge a game off a beta, so you're telling us to do what Ubi just said not to do, which is to judge a none retail version of the game.

So I'll wait to hear the general consensus about the game, look up gameplay, and make up my mind.

But since it's Ubi, I'll probably give this game a pass. DA has been keeping me busy anyway.

I haven't played a beta yet where I had a different opinion of the final game. It's close enough and the raw mechanics won't change, so if you don't like a game's beta, I'm pretty sure you won't like the final version.

I think this is as much a sign of the state of video game 'journalism' and an increasingly negative attitude being adopted by an ever increasing and vocal element of the gaming community.

I am not saying games developers/publishers behavior is perfect, but the way they are being bashed at the moment it doest seem unreasonable for you to make your own mind up.

Frankly, gaming journalism is a joke, there are way too many websites out there with their own agendas with very poor writers who knock out articles and reviews to court as much controversy as possible to maximise hits.

As for the growing element of whiny, negative and self entitled people, perhaps you should go into the development business yourselves if you are such experts. It doesnt matter what the product or game, there are huge numbers of people who find something to moan about.

Whether its the Xbox1, PS4, indies or AAA people just seem to only be happy when they are venting there spleen, being negative and telling gamers who disagree with them that they are wrong.

Your comment is somewhat confusing squire, I imagine you have some statistical evidence to back up your 'ten fold' claims? didnt think so.

As a gamer with over 30 years experience and as someone who played on PC for 20 years or so I can only state that from my fairly extensive experience buggy games are really nothing new. There have been plenty of titles over the years that were literally unplayable, as in they wouldn't even load let alone that they ran poorly.

PC gaming and bugs and crashes go hand in hand in my experience.

As for my console games, again I can only speak from personal experience, but Unity was bloody great and outside of a few glitches I had over 35 hours of great fun. If you care to check my trophies you will note that unlike many commentators I actually played it enough to form an opinion based on experience and not heresay.

I am astounded to you feel I am some how complicit or responsible for these publishers making there various development and business decisions.

I enter into a quite simple agreement with devs, you release a game and if I like the look of it, I will buy it. Sometimes it results in me purchasing something I dont enjoy, more often it results in a gaming experience that I enjoy.

I trust you will be boycotting FarCry4, The Division and anything else they release as you seem to be a person of unwavering principles.

Perhaps the 'do better yourself' comment is a bit broad in scope and you do raise a very good arguement in that respect its an arguement I am happy to concede.

All the same, I feel very frustrated when I see these huge witch hunts and sweeping statements with little understanding or appreciation about what is involved in these huge projects.

Its no accident that as games have become more and more complex that more patches and so on are required. I am a User Acceptance tester, not on games but on Business /database software and can tell you that with all the will in the world, you will never ever find all the bugs in a software release.

The last project I was involved in is still being patched and worked on by many really really smart people a year on from release.

If you expect a developers UA testers to find every bug in a game as complex as a modern videogame you are kidding yourself. There are bugs that only come to light when thousands of people are introduced into the occasion.

Pure speculation here, but say for example there are a thousand bugs identified during the testing phase of a project.

If you were to fix everything before going live the software would never release, its about prioritising the bugs and determining what are game breaking and what you can live with.

The thing you cannot prepare for is what happens when instead of being tested by a team of 20 testers the software is suddenly used by thousands or even millions and previously unknown bugs come out of the woodwork.

I imagine testing for a pc game is exponentially more complex too given to huge variety in pc setups.

I just feel people need to appreciate a little more the effort involved by these really talented people, they dont set out to make a bad game after all.

If we want these increasing complex experiences then patches and bugs come along for the ride, its been a feature of pc gaming for ages and console games are now more or less as complex as their pc counterparts.

As a racer I was put off after 3 minutes in the beta.
graphics were just ugly and it felt difficult to navigate through the environment because of that, it didn't look sharp.
I wouldn't worry about the online part tho, TDU1&2 were both good online and it's the same Dev.

TBH I think the problem with Ubisoft is down to their desire to hype games two years prior to release. It simply puts them on the back foot attempting to meet launch deadlines that are set too early, means that if they do try to delay a game to iron out defects then gamers everywhere complain about that delay and ruins any suspense or surprise about the final product as they then have to issue quarterly updates and trailers etc.

Just make good games, tell us about them only a few weeks before release, once you have properly tested the final product.

What is up with ubisoft lately? Seems like ever since Watch Dogs went from 3 years of mega hype as the door opener of next gen gaming to a forgotten one week after release bomb, all their games have come off as broken and/or lazy. Hopefully they can turn things around before they go the way of Acclaim.

I was in every beta they had for this project, the game is fun in spurts… But the biggest issue I had with it was excessive pop in. With entire mountain ranges popping up just 100 or more feet away from me. Cars popping in within a block and a half. With traffic making a significant impact on each race, not seeing it until you are on on top of it... is a big issue. Especially with the faster cars. If they were to fix the pop in, make it almost nonexistent like in GTA V… I think the game would be fun.

I also think they needed more activities to do. There seem to be only a handful, and I imagine gamers would quickly tire of those same activities over and over again, no matter how much space you can drive in. I drove from one end of the map to the other and in between the big cities, there wasn't much to do. So no matter how much space you have to drive in, if you don't put fun stuff in to do… it just makes it wasted space.

I'm thinking if they added jobs you could do like taxi driver or police officer, added the ability to fly aircraft and drive boats... Then they would give gamers enough to do to satisfy anybody's needs. As it is though, I think it's a game that will be fun to many when it releases, but they will tire of it within weeks and probably never touch it again within a month or so. I think it's one of those concepts that sounds great on paper, bur fails as controllers are put to hands and gamers realize that a nations worth of game space, doesn't necessarily amount to 3000+ miles of fun.
