Will The PS4's Lead Over Xbox One Shrink Or Increase In 2015?

With the race tightening up, it'll be interesting to see which console has the lead at the end of 2015. Will PS4 be able to re-reinforce its will...?

Europe and Japan are always extra sales that will add to the overall lead, The US will be close most of the year but Sony will never lose by enough in the US to not be covered by the other regions..The PS4 has not received a price cut either, so if Sony announce a price cut or some amazing must have bundle at next year,s E3 then it will be a win by default.

Baseline price for X1 went from $500 to $350. While the PS4's msrp is still $400. So there's noway MS will drop the X1 more than to $300 while the PS4, if needed, can drop price a couple times.

So sales will be in favor the PS4 and increasing because of the inability of X1 to have price drops every six months. Afterall.. they can't give away the system for free at this rate.

MS forced its hand way too soon and the PS4 still has to lower its price.

Sony supported the PS3 even after the PS4 launched. The last 4 years of the 360 they had 1 exclusive/year while Sony was putting out 20+.

MS had pretty much a 4 year head start on exclusive games and barely managed to put out more exclusives.

Sony's library is way bigger and over time the numbers will favor Sony in a landslide...all the while MS will make Halo/Forza/Gears/Fable.

And the PS3 trailed the 360 in the US
Imagine the support the PS4 will have starting next year now that its in the lead!!!!

Software units move hardware units!

Right off the bat, the PlayStation 4 is the better platform in terms of rich and well balanced support of western made games from North America, Europe and eastern made games from Japan, Asia. If you want the best of both worlds then PlayStation is still the better all around well rounded platform.

With so many important factors considered like:
1. getting the balance right with the best of both worlds – Japanese & Western games support was very important criteria to me. It was the games support that mattered most.

And PS3 proved to be that platform and I got what I want.

2. The quality of the hardware itself.
My PS3 is now 5 years old and it is still in good working order.
My 360 is now long dead and gone. RROD :-( ) Heh, my old PSOne, PS2, & PSP outlives that MS machine!

3. Power and Features that is Gaming centered
There is no doubt that PS4 delivers on its promise of Full HD games with all the bells and whistles thrown in.
Like in GTA V the PS4 version has better lighting, fog, smog, lens flares, and the infamous more foliage compared to the XB1 version.
Developers say that PS4 is easier to develop games on than XB1 so they can optimize their games more on PS4.

Well these are my humble opinion on the matter.

I think the trend for sales for this generation was made pretty clear from the start. PS4 released in North America and sold out completely after selling over 1 million units in 24 hours. Microsoft trying to grab some limelight and make people believe that they're selling on par with the PS4 announced that the XBox one also sold 1 million units in 24 hours. Except that they failed to mentioned that it was WORLDWIDE, and not in one region like the PS4.

This gap would have been much more by now (at least 4 million more) had Sony been able to keep up with demands. In March some people were still having issues finding PS4s as they were sold out every time they replenished the stocks. So when the PS4 does get a price reduction, you're going to see huge spikes, that will no doubt temper off, but will subsequently result in the PS4 selling faster than it was doing pre-price-drop.

By this time next year, the PS4 will be reaching some 33-38 million consoles. Here's how:

Right now it is at 15 million, and averaging 500,000/week. so with 6 weeks left, that's 3 million by december 31st, totalling 18-19 million. Then safely add another 14 million for the nex year and you're looking at a comfortable 33 million PS4 sold.

Now even if you were to add the same 14 million to Xbox One's current numbers (which I highly doubt will happen) you still end up with 21-23 million units total. And the lead would have increased from 8 million right now, to 12 million.

The ratio would go down, but the lead would go up.

Though i don't see why people here are stating Sony owns 2015, when we have not seen the full lineup from both sides and the Wii U.

Japan is always the difference maker in worldwide sales, and it's a market that Microsoft can't seem to really penetrate. I think Microsoft are happy with performing well in their own target markets like the U.S., Canada and the U.K..

Another thing thats letting Sony down is there servers,i cant even get store on from my ps4 90% of time and its nothing to do with network because all friends and family have same issue and people moving from xb360 to ps4 will expect better imo.

Sony still outsells it worldwide and hasn't even launched in China yet not to mention those unannounced exclusives we will find out about in December at the playstation event. Can't see it going down ever this generation. Can maybe see that 2:1 shrinking to maybe a 1.75:1 or something worldwide when big games for xbox comes out and Ms do there usual marketing tricks like last month. But a lot of the time its even outselling xbox 3:1.. The only reason stats show nearly double sales lifetime is launch consoles are mixed in with those.

Not to start a war or anything, but honestly it should be increasing.

That's not to say the XBO won't do good, but for the lead to decrease the XBO has to outsell the PS4 worldwide on a consistent basis. It hasn't happened, nor do I think it's going to happen next year.

The XBO launched in more regions, dropped price $150 from launch, and the PS4 is still winning weekly worldwide.

2015 PS4 has a killer line-up of exclusives, the XBO will no longer have the $350 price (I'm sure MS will be forced to drop back down), the PS4 could get a price drop as well.

The PS4 will end this year with about 15 million consoles sold (Jan 2014 - December 2014), while the XBO will be around 8m. Then next year the XBO will probably boost to 10m while the PS4 boost to 20m. As long as PS owns EU, and continue to do great everywhere else there's no catching it without a breakthrough in China, or total dominance in NA.

Now will the lead close in the US, probably it's the one region the XBO has a great chance at a comeback (and UK), but WW no.

Single player games don't push the replay value as much as M.P games.

Really? The top selling games on PS4 are MP like Destiny, COD AW. Bloodborne will also have co-op. Shareplay is all about gaming and sharing with friends/family. There are quite a lot of people registered on PSN as well. Sony is selling considerably more PS4's then Xbone regardless of whether you think they're system sellers.

MS simply doesn't have enough games to show at all these conferences. That's why sometimes they don't even participate in them, or don't counter with their own conference. they don't have enough to show, so they reserve them for the big conferences.

Not sure if the gap will increase in 2015, but on long term I do see ps4 gaining momentum over the XBone. As the ps4 has outsold the XBone ( in some regions by a great margin ) it should also be able sell more games. Thus more developers would prefer the ps4... Which means more games.

I bought the WiiU for my youngest son for Xmas. My oldest has a PS4 he got in July for his birthday, he had an Xbox 360. However if I were going to buy a console for Xmas, I would have went X1 all the way, because of the price. That extra cash savings is another controller, game, etc.

The gap between the PS4 and Xbone is only going to widen as the PS4s killer exclusives continue to drop and dominate the sales charts. After the holidays Microsoft has NOTHING while Sony has a slew of amazing games ready to drop. I would imagine the monthly gap in sales will decrease if the recent sales trends are any indication. I don't see the Xbox One outselling the PS4 annually though so I don't see the deficit changing. The PS3 outsold the 360 by about 10% annually. I don't see how that will change between the PS4 and Xbox One.

It has already changed. PS4 has doubled X1 sales this gen. The "recent trends" are not trends they're the effects of a price drop and HEAVY discounts earlier than usual. Sales normally spike with a price drop and these bundles are practically giving the thing away looking for sales. It's cheaper than WiiU to get an X1 and some games right now when you look at all they're bundling. They won't keep that up past the holiday season. MS is clearly too focused on 2 months out of the year when they only release games then and only cut their price during that time. PS4 will release in China as the more in demand product just like every other market this gen.

PS3 and 360 was completely different considering the $200 price advantage 360 had a large part of the gen and the most important part (that being the start). It also had a year head start to get the ball rolling. That should have buried the PS3 but the fact that 360 still lost is just pathetic and really shows how the market goes when they're on even footing (2:1 as has been shown AT LEAST). Also let's not forget many consumers still rightly hold MS's attempted rape against their consumer rights in mind.

I honestly have no idea how many Xbox One's have sold through. If Microsofts recent announcement that they have shipped close to 10 million to retail is true, sales are much closer to 9 million than they are to 6.5 million. The retail channel can't support storing 3.5 million consoles. I would imagine the disparity between the two in sales is closer to 30% in Sony's favor. If the recent sales trend which shows Microsoft outselling the PS4 for the past few weeks doesn't fade completely, that 30% will decrease over time.

Last I checked we saw an uptick in BOTH consoles, and have yet to see XB1 top the PS4 other then obviously their launch. If there was ever a month it was going to happen, Nov is that month. We shall see. They better with all the discounts and packed-in games.

The Xbox One outsold the PS4 December of last year according to NPD. They outsold the PS4 in March of last year in the UK too. I don't think they have managed to outsell the PS4 globally for any month though.

As far as the rest of your claim, you have no idea how many have been sold through. Who has been "fooled" for these supposed claims? Sales data hasn't made gaming for me better or worse on any platform. When I play Driveclub or Forza, sales are not what is on my mind.

Take a step back and re-evaluate why you play games. Just the fact you were fooled once is a pretty good indication you are playing for the wrong reason. You may need to turn your "thinking" back a notch or two so you can enjoy gaming like the rest of us non-thinkers.

Judging by the momentum patterns established by every console ever it will increase. People like to compare X1 to PS3 but PS3 was always outselling 360 if you aligned the launches. These 2 released at the same time and X1 hasn't won ONE week in the world this entire year! Not even the Wii accomplished that and it probably just missed its best chance with pricedrop week. Now PS4 is getting its deals revved up. Xbox will win NPD for November most likely and that's about it.

Xbone will continue to have minor spikes in interest through its generation. We saw it on Titanfall and we saw it a couple more times. Price cuts and decoupling of kinect helped but even then when everyone thought it would take over the PS4 in sales it didn't.

This holiday season is already proven to be following the same pattern where the Xbone was selling well/better than ps4 for 3 weeks and now it's dropped off once again. MS got lucky Sony stumbled only slightly with exclusives this year or else it would have been a slaughter.

What is funny is the idea that late adopters are hardcore gamers. XBO is built to not only compete with consoles but also Apple tv and its likes. At the same time Microsoft is enabling a better experience with electronics as a whole. There focus is vast and there are intricate parts they hope will come together. If successful those purchasing an xbox will do so for every factor including games, apps, tv, and the simplicity of navigation.

Unless X1 make the 350$ + 1 game promo the official price, I don't see X1 gaining much ground and even then that will only be in the USA. I still believe that at the end of this gen, the gap will be 40+ million between PS4 (1st) and X1 (2nd).

Sony will not lower the price of the PS4 in 2015. Once their market dominance remains, Sony will continue to push "The best place to Play"... as they have the one up on performance, mindshare, and exclusive line up in 2015. UC4 will be the biggest selling Uncharted, and I think Sony will do a "Master Thief" collection to get people in the mood for Drake. ND is still a small studio though, and they are potentially already working on TLOU2.

Sony's momentum has stopped because of the X1 price cut and bundles. People still want the console, despite the price. It oozes more quality, with one clear message... Here is where the gamers are at. The only price cut which may come is for the PS3. There are still some big games to come for this platform, and the console will stay relevant for the while.
