They HAD to back off that one because as the saying goes a lost sale is money out the door that may never comeback. Im sure this pissed off the publishers to a high degree and this is their middle finger back. In other words in their eyes $60 doesn't justify complete game content like it did the gen before last. I don't want to defend the price tag. The price is a joke and the game lacks content. But I am having a great time with old friends in this game and made a few new. It is actually fun to run in circles and collect spinmetal when you have a good chat with nice people. You can have the tension of a nightfall strike too.
I have played 170 hours so far and this makes the game worth the money for me.
I will buy the DLC.

Regardless of the amount of content, I'm sure some if it was already finished and taken out of the final game. Remember a few years ago when we were all outraged after finding out that things like the Gears of War 3 skins were already on the disc and we were just paying to unlock them? I miss those days. We just kind of rolled and said fu** it, and started buying DLC and season passes like crazy. People buy it anyways and at whatever price is set. Season passes and DLC prices are getting ridiculous and to be honest I have yet to buy a DLC/map pack that I felt was worth it. I have always regretted buying every DLC I've been suckered into.

While I can agree about the Xbox Owners getting ripped off, the price isn't really that bad for what you are getting.. In COD DLC or Battlefield you typically get 4 multiplayer maps and 1 co-op map for $15.

Destiny is a grindy game to begin with and to even get from level 28 to 30 is a very long stretch. So going from 30 to 32 is probably just as long.

Raids the first time take typically from 3-4 hours of extra gameplay. For PS4 owners they are getting 2 new strikes instead of one, plus the 3 crucible maps and the new gear that is available that can get you up to level 32. It might not seem like a lot, but like I said it takes quite a very long time to get from 28/29-30. If you ask me that is way more than anything you'd get in DLC nowadays, so it really isn't THAT expensive for the extra $5. A lot of other games like Assassin's Creed and even the last Batman game wanted to charge people $10-$15 for an extra 2 hour mission.

It is not worth it for Xbox owners in my opinion, they should get money taken off the $19.99 because that is simply not fair. There's a difference between someone getting something simply earlier like the COD/MS deal, rather than charging someone for something that they don't get. If they get it later (which isn't specified) that's a different story. But like I just said they haven't specified that yet.

Really disappointed with Bungie on this one.

To put that into perspective..

All of the "big" expansion packs for the top games back on the 360 were 1200 MS points.

I am talking about the expansions for GTA4, skyrim etc. The expansion for Oblivion (The Shivering Isles) at the time cost 800 points I think, correct me if I am wrong.

I know nothing stays the same forever and the cost of making these games has gone up etc, but as a consumer at the end of the day what matters to me is the overall value for mony I am getting.

looking at what they have said is going to be in this content and how much they want to charge for it, it's a big fat NO from me.

On paper and going back looking at old Vidocs, the game really had potential. Supporting this crap now, only means they will continue down this road and that is not something I want to see.

After my initial disappointment with the game, I told myself this is Bungie that gave me Halo which I still love so I will hold out to see what they do with regards to updates and dlc.

Well we have had events like the Queens wrath which said we would get "new" missions. In reality it was replaying story missions with a few modifiers switched on.

Now we get to see what the dlc is going to be about. The question I have in my mind is are those 3 story missions really going to provide hrs of gameplay and story development within the game? When I say hrs of gameplay I don't mean repeating a 10 min mission over and over just to see If I can get a random drop from it.

Guys, the Limited Edition offered a lot more than just the two expansion packs. He essentially gets the Expansion Packs for free if you value the rest of the contents at $30 dollars. No matter how you look at it, he got a whole bunch of limited edition stuff + the two expansion packs for less money than the cost of just the expansions alone. It was a good deal if you like the game (I haven't played it, so I have no opinion on the quality of the game).

As far as game content:
Guardian = Limited = Collectors

The only differences are
Guardian - Digital Only
Limited - Retail Package (w/ Steelbook)
Collectors - Sames as Limited + the Ghost figurine

Personally I got the Guardian edition, so I get all the future DLC (at least what is planned) free since the Season Pass is included.

$20 per expansion is really high, but works out math-wise if the Season Pass was a $30-35 value (I believe it was $35 if bought outside the editions above). Season Passes usually work out to $10-20 of savings on average (though DriveClub is retarded at $25 with the planned DLC costing $75 total).

I really think there should have been 4-5 DLC packs @ $10 each retail price to still give those with the Season Pass some added value. Plus $10 would have been reasonable for a DLC of this size (assuming there is only a hand-full of new weapons and armor).

The price difference between countries is obsurd but in terms of content, it's a lot more than you get for a $15 map pack in whatever call of duty game you may be playing.

Concerning opinions of the game story, repition etc, there are two kinds of gamers: single player in it for the story gamers and multiplayer in it for the grind players. The latter has always clearly been the target audience for Destiny and to the majority of those gamers it has in no way failed to satisfy.

Nooo lol you must be new to gaming. The Shivering Isles was an expansion pack (for example), worth every penny I might add. This is game content that was obviously cut. If you can't see how pieces are missing between what they showed us pre release and while you're playing the game.. well then you're in for a good time, that's the kind of people they want lol. They don't make expansion packs for games anymore. Those were basically slightly mini versions of the full game content wise. A lot of them didn't require the original game to work and could basically stand alone. Now it's all DLC. A mission or 2. A new piece of armor. Some maps. Crap like that.

I'm annoyed that people claim that you got your moneys worth if you played 30+ hours. No, thats not how it works. Not all hours are created equally, and the repetitive gameplay in Destiny is no exception. Some people just want to finish the game, for the sakes of completing it (lvl 30), but these same gamers have the right to complain when theres nothing different to do.

Honestly the game is reviewed right. Looks great, gameplay is tight, but lacks story and it's repetitive.

I'll give you the story argument, but enough with the repetitive argument. Every other game you are repeating the same tasks after the first 10-20 hours. There aren't hardly any games that constantly provide you with new things to do week after week.

the problem is the genre destiny is under. If everyone is claiming its a flavor of MMO, then it fails considerably. Look at all the other MMO's theres a story, theres a lot of content, and yes the gameplay is repetitive.

However, as I said the difference is it mixes it up. Destiny minus the Raid does not do that.

A lot of people dont use N4G or reddit/r/destinyTheGame to voice there complaints. It's definitely a lot more than a small minority with complaints. Have you not seen the criticism even on the bungie official forums? Its insane.

Definitely agree on this, the money's worth has to be defined by length AND quality. I think part of the issue is that the game is being treated like a 9/10 title when in fact it's closer to a 7-8/10 game. But due to its huge user base and Bungie riding off the success of Halo to drive their sales, it's distorting this truth.

It was also a terrible idea of Bungie to make a game with RPG type gameplay WITHOUT the vast amount of rpg loot you would normally encounter. Its not just the repetitive encounters, it's the lack of reward from them that makes it worse. Especially in a shooter type game where patience and long term strategy aren't as big of factors as opposed to full fledged MMOs in terms of gameplay.

Sure there are plenty of people playing (myself included) but that says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on whether people are actually enjoying the game or just playing it mindlessly to kill time.

It's also unfortunately bringing out the hardcore keyboard warriors trying to justify the game's worth with these HORRIBLY reasoned arguments. Which neglect the value of enjoyment itself in their points.

Also $20 is disgusting for the content they're offering. Most of it is crap they wouldn't even have to lift a finger for. As well as it almost definitely already being on the disc. Unlocking content over time in MMOs is fine. It's the initial lack of content for the full retail price that is absolutely unethical and unjust. It is unfortunately covered up through the mountains of endless respawning repetitive enemies you encounter.

You know what...I knew Activision was going to be the death of Destiny. Sometime last week I got fed up with this game to the point of not caring what happens in it anymore and it wasn't out of anger, but rather the realization that the game was a constant loop of repetition that doesn't reward you based on how well you do, but instead when it feels like it.

Why am I even putting any effort into truly playing? Even in the Crucible it seriously feels pointless to me now the only fulfillment you get out of it is killing another player or capturing an objective just like any other FPS online. I have a 27 Hunter, 26 Warlock and a 22 Titan and unfortunately I think I've seen all I'm going to see from this game.

The cut out content being made DLC at that price is pretty disgusting. Thankfully there are games coming out that will help keep me away from this game. I hope The Division doesn't turn out like this, but it's Ubisoft...why the hell wouldn't it.

I swear if I could sell Destiny at this point after seeing this news I would, but I went ahead and went for the Digital Copy...never again.

I don't see what the problem is, if you work in UK you get payed in that currency and if you work in USA you get their currency. If you have a job in UK and get payed £50 a day and someone else has same job in america they get payed $50 a day and spend 20 out of that. To that person they spent the same amount of their pay. This is only a problem if you try to buy the expansion in UK with dollars which you wouldn't do.
If the problem is that the expansion cost $20 instead of the normal $15 for Call of Duty DLC that is because this is an Expansion not normal DLC so it comes with more stuff, you get maps and a extra mission for extinction or zombies with CoD DLC but you get a bunch of missions, weapons, level cap increase, gear, maps, and more challenges with Destiny Expansion.

this article is a cost/benefit analysis disaster. Just because the original game was 60? Final Fantasy Tactics on PS1 is my favorite game of all time. I'd pay 60 dollars for a FFT PS1 expansion. Same engine, graphics, everything. People who want more destiny will pay and play it. The people who don't, well speak with your wallet.

If criteron can do it with burnout and do it so well and even rockstar with red dead and all the free content but yeah I don't see why not im happy to pay for good content ie the extra island on burnout as they've done so much free content by that point I felt they deserved it but grand theft auto 4's DLC was fantastic and yet that was barely £8/10 when they both came out. Fair few hours of quality content with those tho. £19.99 for DLC is a joke that should be the maximum price of the season pass but no that's £34.99!
