It's getting ridiculous how frequent downtime is on the playstation network. I sometimes wonder what i'm paying for. PS3 seemed to do online free without this much hiccups. Messages were actually instant and didn't take 5 minutes to come up in your inbox.

As a Network engineer myself, I understand the situation, traffic sucks, but Sony should be prepared. Why don't they upgrade their servers. Should have used that Gaika stuff to add servers to their network.

This is unacceptable now. We're all paying for the network, if your internet or phone stopped working for few hours, you are going to call your ISP and complain. Why don't we all call sony at the same time.

Everytime this shit happens they TWEET an apology, and that their "engineers" are BS "investigating" .All they do is split the traffic, reset it, and hope half the people are gone, to allow the rest in.

I expect them to have a better network by next year, and they better be prepared for all the new players around Christmas.

The only thing I couldn't access for a short while was the PS Store. As usual, it's a Tuesday the time they update the store. Even that didn't last very long.

It's also the last day that their promotion over buying for 100$ get 15$ back ended. They probably needed to make a compilation of what everyone purchased with the Sale of the Dead Movie sale and the Ultimate Bundle deals with Flash Sales that they had going on this month.

Friends worked all day and it's now faster than ever. Party Chat works. Online multi-player works and never went down.

You can't say the ENTIRE PSN is down due to just a couple of things being updated. Be more precise next time.

Having owned a PS3 since launch and now PS4, I have personally rarely seen a PSN downtime other than the DDOS hack and like when the PS4 first launched. Only a handful of times I haven't been able to connect, most of the time it's 3rd party companies game servers. I play mostly in the evenings though after work, and it sounds like it's down more though during the day. maybe it has to do with region too.

People who complain about PSN don't seem to realise that PSN has an unprecedented number of people that connect to it.

There are over 80 million PS3's sold (more than xbox360) and PS4 is dominating Xbone at over 2 to 1. There are more gamers on PSN than anywhere else. FACT!

If xbox had to deal with as many people they would probably have lot more trouble too. It's something we will never know as Xbones sales continue to be poor.

The very fact that there are so many PS4's out there and so many people who connect to PSN every day should be cause for Sony to improve the network. It's a year after launch and PSN is arguably WORSE than it was at launch. They can't just do nothing while their playerbase continues to grow, they need to accommodate that growth...which they seemingly aren't doing at the moment.

It's Sony's responsibility to make sure that their servers/network can cope with the huge amount of traffic it gets, it's not our responsibility to make excuses for their incompetence. We're PAYING for this.

PSN is very poor in comparison to xbox live or even steam. You can tell right off the bat that Sony is a hardware company with not much expertise in the software side of things. While it's vice versa for Microsoft.

360 had a much more install base and it was rock solid during these huge updates.

Steam is stable as well.

Why this is an issue is due to the fact you need to pay for it on the ps4 and it's the same issues as the free ps3 online.

I never personally have issues getting xbox live updates and it's always very quick. Actually now on the xbox one, it's already done before i wake up or before I get home but either way the update is always done while my console is off.

PS+ is a game subscription service.

People that expect "free" games from Live are buying it for the wrong reason. PS+ being required to access online multiplayer doesn't make sense. Why do you need to subscribe to a game rental service to play online? I would rather Sony separate PS+ from PSN and take the money and offer a better online service. I feel keeping the servers up and running for paid games is more important than offering "free" games that I may not be interested in.

XBL for nearly 8 years and never had downtime for online mp more than a couple of hours tops and even then prob only 2-3 times an issue in those 8 years. A paid service with good service level agreements backed up by investment in infrastructure over a long period.

We've only been paying for 11 months now. Live has been paid for over the past decade. It SHOULD be head and shoulders above PSN at this point. Give it time and you will see that money show in PSN as well. I just wouldn't expect overnight changes.

Yup, just sat down to experience 2.0, took me 3 restarts to sign in, and lots of attempts to access the store. I was looking for themes to take advantage of the new feature but there is none svaliable on EU store so currently its useless.

Also while I'm talking about the update does anyone else dislike how your library contains all games even those you've uninstalled/deleted? There's no way to remove them and if you click them it prompts you to buy them from the store. I don't really want all my old games in that list.

Took me around 10mins to update the whole thing through JPN PSN.

I like the new update, but I'd like to have my library on the left hand side. Also, I don't like the way titles that are not on my HDD are displayed in the Games folder. I also want to organize the folders separately on the main menu where there would be Games, Apps, etc. and control the exact limit of my main menu icons. Plus, I want to be able to organize AAA titles to the front and then smaller indie titles separately.

Just add more customization options.

Overall, this update feels more like 1.0 than 2.0. Maybe the eventual 3.0 will bring Vita content manager, DLNA + all sorts of fun options and new stuff.

But I get it that they want to push the share features, and to be honest, they are revolutionizing gaming.

This is not where we should be in gaming online. Granted we had free service on PS3. Was it good. It was okay but it could have been better.

I give credit where credit is due. Microsoft made the right choice for online gaming. It still has it flaws once and awhile but it's upto date in terms of modern gaming online.

At the end of the day you need to look at all the details leading up until this point.

Is it a big deal for gamers? Is it a system changer? Are all these errors and connection issues having me change my mind about PS4? Why am I paying $50.00 for an outdated gaming service?

These questions should have never have happened regardless. Right now, we are playing catch up to modern gaming, online services. I know your thinking it will get better since you stated that but come on man, it's not solving the issue and issues by adding more servers.

It's time for dedicated servers for Playstation Gamers. Why would you want an inferior service any longer? Sorry, you probably don't but at the same time we need to take a stand. The stand starts today.

We already have people creating articles and working the artistic magic on Photoshop, etc.

I've been gaming on the network since PS2 as well. I never said it doesn't need to be updated or fixed. I personally feel people make it worse than what it seems though. I'm connected with no problems most of the time. Often I see more false reports of it being down than it actually being down. Also I've been on XBL since it started too. It's blown out of proportion a lot of the time. XBL had issues with the friends list a few weeks ago and articles came out as if the entire service was down.

Don't confuse me saying it's not as bad as people make it seem with "there are no issues". I've never said that nor indicated that.

You need to read, I never said I think it may get better. I said they could possibly be working on it for all we know. You made it sound like they can just flip a switch and all is solved with your sign a petition thing. You can have a million gamers sign that but what is practical is more important. They may be working on it, but it's not a simple thing that can be solved right away. That is the only reason why I said it'll take some time (if they are working on it or plan on working on it).

My reply to you was simply to say whether they're working on it or gamers sign petitions etc, it'll take time no matter what. Point blank period.

Bottom line I would love for them to fix the issues and I know it'll take time to do that. I do however still think people make it seem worse than what it is.

To be honest I think that phrase "making games for the players" is also wrong at least currently at the moment. I am an only PS4 owner for next gen systems you can look up my psn name like here on N4G assassingamer136, I am level 13 for trophy collection so I played a shit ton. To me currently it seems like xbox has a better online service and has a better library of games. Sunset overdrive and Forza horizon 2 has opened me to the truth especially after how hard Driveclub hit the ground. If I find out by playing uncharted 4 that its not ground breaking like the past uncharted games, then I am trading in my ps4 for an xbox one. sony has been slacking this gen and have been getting greedy. They are essentially microsoft from last gen at the moment. Their highest rated game is a remaster while Xbox one is titanfall which sits at an 87 or 86.

This should not be a Xbox Live vs PlayStation Network issue. It should be a PSN issue alone. Sony has never had online gaming as its forte, and certainly now it shows that. While I have my interest in PlayStation franchises, and plan on buying the system at some point, I will never buy a third party game on the console that is online based. Honestly not trolling, just making a point. There seem to be a lot of Sony guys (or a fair percentage) that praise Sony for everything, and I mean everything! Both companies have their shortcomings and what helps is when we complain! If we hadn't complained the X1 wouldn't be the machine it is today. Honestly I sold my PS4 because the games out at the time (and now, at least for me) didn't interest me. Also I was concerned about Sony's cash flow and their ability to handle the success of the system. I think this is what PSN is feeling now, they simply don't have the money to invest. And before you call me a fan boy, I follow the markets, I invest and I am informed. I consider cash flow to be the single biggest obstacle to Sony keeping the PS4 the top tier system like the PS3 was. PSN is just a symptom of it.

Don't unplug the cord. Hold the power button until you hear the second beep. Then once in safe mode click option 5 (Rebuild Database), none of your save data will be deleted.

Pulling the power cord is the worst thing you can do.

i'm trying to redownload games that took me before the update a mere 10 to 20 minutes are now giving me times of 6 or more hours long to finish. This update is a disaster for some people, and i mean me. USB music player will not work no matter how many times i made a folder called MUSIC and it still wont pick it up. The connection has droped and giving me errors throughout the day, the youtube app wont even connect to my account. Messages i receive take over 20 minutes to actually read them, and some of my messages take over an hour to delete.

I downloaded the update around 6pm yesterday. No problems. Sure they'll get hang-ups when the servers are flooded. Usually happens with new games too.
I think Sony should systematically release updates.

Did the update yesterday and everything was fine. I played LoTF twice and went to rest mode twice everthing was fine. I put it in rest mode when I went to bed last night and this morning it's got an orange pulsing light. Holding the power button down does nothing.

Issues haven't really been as frequent as they are now and now it is a pay to play service. I'm thinking of holding off on renewing my plus until the service is back on track with a serious serverside system overhaul. something is certainly not right.
