I approve of this award so far.

mikeslemonade3471d ago

aha GOTY when literally 25% of the games have not even came out yet? Way to be objective..

Right now it's down to Sunset OD, Bayonetta 2, COD, Smash, and Dragon Age.

GOTY when literally 25% of the games have not even came out yet? Way to be objective."

Yet you list games that you haven't played as GOTY candidates... SMH

TheStrokes3471d ago (Edited 3471d ago )

There are many reasons you have one bubble... This being one of them lol :)

OT: Glad Souls has won. It's a cracking game.

blitz06233471d ago (Edited 3471d ago )

It included AC4, BF4 and Pokemon X&Y so they probably do Nov-Oct games or something.

FITgamer3471d ago

"Right now it's down to Shadow of Modor, Bayonetta 2, Far Cry 4, Smash, and Dragon Age."

*Fixed. More likely candidates for GOTY in December.

Benjammin253471d ago

You include Sunset Overdrive but not LBP 3? Give me a break.

tempestz3470d ago

You may have noticed BF4 and AC4 also winning awards although they came out in October of 2013.
The games you listed will all be included in 2015, this is the way things have always been.

Its too early to give this award, when theres so many games are yet to be released this year.

GarrusVakarian3471d ago

Do the GOTY awards feel a little low-key this year to anyone else?

It's usually a big deal, and there's news about it everywhere, and everyone's talking about it...but this year it just seems a little quieter and less acknowledged.

Oh well, congrats to Dark Souls 2.

NovusTerminus3471d ago

Hard to give them out when most GotY contenders have not even released yet.

GarrusVakarian3471d ago

I wonder why Forza Horizon 2 wasn't counted this year? I would have given my vote to that over any of the other entries.

Corpser3471d ago

Because the number of good games this year is seriously lacking

Rimgal3471d ago

PewDiePie won Gaming Personality of the Year?!? Is this a joke?

pompombrum3471d ago

Doesn't exactly reflect well on these "personalities" does it?

Rimgal3471d ago

Now that you mention. Who the hell lost to PewDiePie?

And btw this guy makes the best impression of PewDiepie that I ever saw.

That blows. Boogie actually HAS a personality.

Torque_CS_Lewith3471d ago

A horrible one. Can't stand him and the f bombs on his stupid rants.

Benjammin253471d ago

I really like Markiplier personally. TotalBiscuit, Caddicarus, Angry Joe. there's loads of better candidates for that award IMO.

ScottyHoss3471d ago

What do you expect, it's associated with Kotaku lol

Kingdomcome2473470d ago

I just recently found Markiplier. He is hilarious. I subscribed almost immediately.

Tdmd3470d ago

Ten minutes listening to this guy means guarantee headache. He's the most annoying personality on youtube, I can't understand how can he have so many fans.

These Golden Joystick awards are a joke.

rdgneoz33470d ago

No kidding, Betafield 4 won best multiplayer game...

TheJacksonRGN3471d ago

The award show is terrible, production values and the host is annoying to listen to. Also hosting GOTY in October when 2014 isn't over yet is just dumb.

Hidetaka Miyazaki claims Dark Souls 2 “carried” the series forward

Dark Souls 2 remains a divisive entry in the landmark RPG franchise, but Hidetaka Miyazaki believes it led to the success of Elden Ring.

The game isn't good though.

Rols59d ago

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

CrimsonWing6959d ago

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer59d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville59d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

I beat them all with my fists and no hits were taken. What do you mean you don't believe me? I used a guitar hero controller!!!

I used the Jungle Beat Bongos from my Gamecube

I just made my character look like Chuck Norris.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
