Dark Souls 2 is The Game of the Year at Golden Joystick Awards 2014

During today's 32nd annual Golden Joystick Awards, Dark Souls II has won the GoTY award, beating Watch Dogs, Mario Kart 8, Titanfall and Battlefield 4 to the prize.

While DayZ managed to win the Best Original game award this year, along with Best Indie Game Award. Here's the full list of this year's winners:

The games you listed will all be included in 2015, this is the way things have always been.

It's usually a big deal, and there's news about it everywhere, and everyone's talking about it...but this year it just seems a little quieter and less acknowledged.

I find it stupid when anyone does a "game of the year" award inside the same year.

Wait till January or February. Let your reviewers and editors have time with the majority of the games in the contenders list for each award.

A lot of them do but then you don't give all your writers enough time to play all the games or at least most of the games.

Normally .. when you hear the IGN game of the year or Gametrailers game of the year o gamespot game of the year ... a lot of them end up voting without having played all the games in the category. Makes it an unfair voting.

IGN I believed said they would wait till January or February last year to give their editors/writers more time to play as much as possible for a more fair vote.

Dark Souls 2 is a frustrating game for me. One the one hand, it's a damn good game in its own right. Worthy of this award.

On the other hand, it's easily the worst of the three souls games. That's not too bad when you consider how amazing the other two are... but it still ended up leaving me rather disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I took the time to platinum the game (pretty close on Steam, too).

But goodness this game feels more like Dark Souls fan fiction than anything else.

Now Bloodborne, on the other hand... my excitement is palpable.

I'm not saying DS2 is a bad game. It's a great game... but any dedicated Souls fan will know where I'm coming from...

Not a huge challenge but it is probably mine if not Wolfenstein. This year really has not have any epic titles, at least my 3 fav franchises are getting remasters and remakes: Halo, KH, and Pokemon

Dark souls 2 deserves this, its the only game this year that i constantly went back to for several play throughs. I never really do this these days due to time with games being fairly limited.

It has its flaws but what doesn't. Excited to see bloodborne in feb

Sure the game has some cool gameplay, but the story leaves much to be desired. Graphics could be better and the audio is not that impressive either.

Definitely a good game, but not as good as Demon Souls and yet i completely agree with it winning GOTY.

2014 has been a sad year in terms of amazing experiences. Here's hoping 2015 will be better.
