Gears of War Xbox One To Be Cross-Gen?

"Black Tusk Studios, the developers who have been tasked with carrying on the Gears of War series, are currently working on a new title for the Xbox One, though there's also a chance that there's an Xbox 360 version in development too."

Please no. Stop this cross gen stuff.

whoyouwit043477d ago

Why?? there is no reason to stop support as long as it is given the same treatment as FH2. 2 teams 2 consoles, it's as simple as that. not only that this gives us xbox owners far more confidence that Microsoft want abandon the xbox one so quickly because of new hardware 5 to 10 years from now.

psvitamanfan3477d ago

Agreed. FH2 was great on the Xbox One without being compromised by there being an Xbox 360 version. If the same is true with Gears, I can't see many people complaining.

TXIDarkAvenger3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Actually your right. 360 owners can be happy with some crap game and keep throwing their money at it because I won't. Forgot the 360 versions aren't holding back the One.

Forza Horizon 2 is garbage on 360. Even as a standalone game with no comparison to the One, it lacks in so many way to the first game. So disappointed, I refunded the game. The game won't be getting DLC either on 360.

bleedsoe9mm3477d ago

absolutely ,MS is doing allot to support MS customers whether is on xb1 , 360 or PC and somehow its being spun as bad , instead of giving phil spencer the credit he deserves .

BattleAxe3477d ago

Cross-gen support is going to keep happening for quite a while. I think it's great that these companies are still supporting their older consoles, and they should, because after all, Sony did say that the PS3 would have a 10 year life cycle, and we haven't hit 10 years yet.

tigertron3477d ago

Cross gen games should stop now because developers are being split, resources are split and games are made to cater lower end hardware.

I can understand why cross gen titles exist and have been plentiful this year, but now we really have to focus the current gen, by making games that take full advantage of the hardware.

mikeslemonade3477d ago

That does it! I will not buy this game if it's cross gen

bouzebbal3477d ago

MS supporting old consoles? no way!!!!
Good thing if true

MrPink20133477d ago

They are likely considering it because the XB1 install base is still too small and there is still a sizeable market on the X360 that will buy it.

MSBAUSTX3477d ago

Except when you do this crap you dont give a big enough reason to jump to the newest generation of consoles which looses you money in the long run. Last generation had a freakong decade almost! It is time to start putting money and time in to the new consoles and move on. If the developers dont move on then customers wont either because they have no reason to.

Foehammer3477d ago

Since this is rumoured to be a 2016 release, that would make the 360 ELEVEN years old.

Now that's supporting a console for a long time.

Army_of_Darkness3477d ago

The xbone is struggling to catch up in sales against the ps4, which is why ms is continuing their "support" of the 360 versions ;-) clever backup plan I say...

EvilWay3476d ago

I agree there is no need for a 360 version when the game is releasing in 2016. If you still don't have a next gen system in 2016 I don't know what to tell ya

Redrum0593476d ago (Edited 3476d ago )

Xbox360 is still limited to dvd9, so technically, any crossgen(360-one)game on the Xbox one is still somewhat not reaching it's full potential as a current-gen game.

lifeisgamesok3477d ago

Yeah last gen lasted long enough it's time that those people who bought 360's and haven't upgraded yet to migrate over to the One

psvitamanfan3477d ago

Not everyone can afford the entry fee for next gen, plus there are people who may have bought one of the bundles released in the last couple of years and they still want to get some more use out of it. Im all for cross gen releases as long as it's done well.

Antifan3477d ago

Most 360 owners migrated to PS4, not Xbox one.

kickerz3477d ago

I went from 360 to one and never looked back. Great games.
Great network. Great system.

Remy_Chaos3477d ago

LOL! Oh yes sir! Oh wait, you're actually serious? People will move on when and what they choose to, not when a crazy fanboy dictates.

Ausbo3477d ago

This article is stupid. The only basis for this rumor is a job posting that says experience working on ps3 and Xbox 360. That doesn't mean anything except they are looking for an experienced developer.

3477d ago
ThunderPulse3476d ago

Seriously though SONY needs to do the same thing.

Mutant-Spud3476d ago

Well given there are still literally no games I want on XB1 that I can't play on 360 I can't see any reason to upgrade.
If GOW had been a launch title for XB1 I probably would have bought one at launch, plus the way current gen gaming is going is this going to be another half arsed game?
Is the new Gears game going to be an even bigger step down than Judgement was from GOW3?

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 3476d ago
Roccetarius3477d ago

If they're developing for the 360 as well, then you can be sure there are compromises. It would be a shame to hold a much improved Xbone version back.

spicelicka3476d ago (Edited 3476d ago )

EVERYBODY STOP PANICKING!

Has anyone actually read this article? I don't understand how them looking for someone with "xbox 360/ps3 experience" means gears will be cross-gen.
Why wouldn't they want someone with previous gen experience, it just means more skill.

I love how most people think of this as an announcement from MS or something. This seems like a ridiculous farfetched assumption to me. Gears 5 probably isn't coming out for another 2 years, i highly doubt they'll be making cross-gen games by then.

The only possibility I could think of would be an HD remaster, since 2016 is the anniversary year for Gears 1. Which would make more sense if they're looking for xbox 360 experience.

IWentBrokeForGaming3477d ago

Automatically gimped... What a shame! Gears is single handedly the main franchise that could get me to buy a One... But if the story/online don't improve along with cross plat holding it back... Might save me some good cash!

OpieWinston3477d ago

Gears isn't cross gen.... Black Tusk is just recruiting people with experience on 360/PS3....You know "CONSOLE EXPERIENCE".

Because not a lot of people have extensive experience with X1 or PS4 since they're not even a year old yet.

Gears X1 is going to be THE best looking UE4 game just like Gears 1-Judgement were the best looking UE3 games on last gen consoles.

Epic is working closely with BTS to help make it the game that makes UE4 pop.

Hercules1893477d ago

Even if anothe dev is doing the 360 version, thats another dev that can make a completely different game for Xbox one

Dudebro903477d ago

If Halo 5 isn't cross Gen, which its not, there's no chance gears will be. They need to sell more Xbox ones, no continue selling 360s

BattleAxe3477d ago

If they're still making money on the 360, then you can bet that they will continue to support it.

DrRobotnik3477d ago

Crappy as it sounds. MS needs to do what Sony did with the vita. Focus all power on the new hardware.

The Games of E3 2016: Gears of War 4

Microsoft will show off a ton of games during E3 2016, and the action packed Gears of War 4 is sure to be one of them. The team over at Xbox Enthusiast looks at what we know so far of Gears of War 4, why we're excited, and what we expect to see at E3 2016.

Awesome news! I can't wait for the next Gears.

700p3292d ago

Im so excited! Gears is one of my fav shooters of all time.

Mr Pumblechook3292d ago

That's actually a very good move by Microsoft. What it means is that when it comes to cinematics, the new Gears maintains a consistency with the previous games. The more original staff the more authenticity and it can avoid the criticisms of Halo 4 being good but 'different' from previous games.

LackTrue4K3292d ago

I would get a (cheap/used) XboxOne just like I did with last gen, with the Xbox 360.
" proudly just for Gears of War!"

EvilWay3292d ago

I would say Gears is worth $350

StrayaKNT3292d ago

@evilway

I would pay a thousand dollars if they made it that expensive just to play a new gears game

spicelicka3292d ago (Edited 3292d ago )

That's actually a good idea, I did this with PS3 last gen to catch up on all the exclusives like God of war, uncharted, and resistance.

I'm in the same boat as you, just reversed.

d_g3292d ago (Edited 3292d ago )

Great news

looks like the old Gears of War Developers love to back work in the franchise

i hope they will do great job with Gears

hello123292d ago

Gears 4 confirmed 2016 release still hiring people.

Gears was the best looking game on 360 should be the same this gen.

ValKilmer3292d ago

Halo this year, Gears of War the next?

Seems like a pretty good road ahead for Xbox One.

Kingdomcome2473292d ago

I think Halo 4 might've taken that crown, but GeOW was typically the best looking series on the 360.

ValKilmer3292d ago

Now the question becomes when Cliffy B will be hired on.

gangsta_red3292d ago

It seems they have everyone from the Gears team except Cliffy.

OpieWinston3292d ago

Rod has opened his doors to EVERYONE who's worked on Gears before.

Chances are Cliffy will get hyped for Gears once they release their first at BTS.

Blank3292d ago

Usually im pretty skeptic when an established IP goes to new hands but from what I have been reading I have been getting hyped instead of doubt. I honestly hope they keep up the awesome development on this game. They are showing me they are thinking about the fans.

WildArmed3292d ago

Considering the mess The last gears was, I'm not going to hold my breath just yet.

I do hope we get gears collection (gears 1-3... No more than that lol) on xbox one though.

Rookie_Monster3292d ago

The last isn't a main gears game and was made by People Can Fly so it is not the same. This one has a AAA budget and many people that worked on the previous Gears 1-3 are onboard. I say no need to worry.

WildArmed3292d ago (Edited 3292d ago )

@Rookie

Good point, I look forward to putting GoW:Judgement behind me.

I think that was doomed to fail when they picked the least liked/interesting character and based a game off of him.

New Gears of War Not Coming to Xbox 360

Microsoft's upcoming Gears of War game will launch exclusively for Xbox One--an Xbox 360 version of the untitled project is not in development. That's according to Black Tusk's Jack Felling, who revealed the (albeit unsurprising) news on Twitter recently.

CyrusLemont3312d ago

I remember how stunned I was when I first played Gears of War. That game really screamed next gen. I really hope this one does the same thing for the current gen of consoles, as the very first GOW did.

Genuine-User3312d ago

Yep. Gears was the first standout game for 360.

PLASTICA-MAN3312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

It is an UE4 game so obviously it won't be cross-gen. I hope Black Tusk can deliver the same quality Epic could though.

Dirtnapstor3312d ago

It was the reason I bought a 360. Perhaps this upcoming Gears will persuade me. Humm....

darthv723312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

Is anyone really surprised by this? I mean there comes a time where you have to move on. Let the original trilogy (throw in judgement too) stand as a testament to the platform it was created for.

A new gen, a new gears, a new set of barriers to take cover behind then hop over and kick some ass.

In some ways I wished MS had saved halo 4 for the XB1 but there is Halo 5 to change things up.

Takwin3311d ago

This is definitely a good thing that it is not coming to the 360. It can shine and take advantage of the One. Gears was just as good as Halo, and are by far the two best IP's that Microsoft owns.

OpenGL3312d ago

Totally, Gears of War was the game that made me buy an Xbox 360.

Glad to see that they're not holding back a new game by making a 360 version as well. The 360 was a great machine for its time but it's going to be 10 years old this fall. It's about time developers dropped support for it (as well as PS3) and focused exclusively on Xbox One and PS4.

WitWolfy3312d ago

The PS2 was supported up until 2010-ish.. So I dont think that will happen anytime soon.

Gazondaily3312d ago

Gears truly started next-gen for me.

I remember playing it at my mates' house at uni and one of my mates came downstairs looked at the game and was like

WHAT THE [flappy birds]!?! Are you playing that?!

And then he bought a Xbox 360 and lived happily ever after. Actually no, he rages a lot (even in Plants vs Zombies) but yeah.

The next gears better not be cross-gen. To hell with that.

TearsOfARapper843312d ago

I remember playing my first multiplayer match on Gridlock I think was the name? The really popular map. I went right to the side and wound up staring down at the water in awe completely not focusing on the match itself.

@cyruslemont
Any game is going to struggle to have the same wow factor as early gen 360/ps3 games for the simple fact that the gen was the start of the hd era...hard to compete with going from standard def to 720p. I think as this gen progresses it will become less about graphical fidelity and more about which developers create experiences that change the way we play, and think about playing, games. Hopefully the new hardware allows them to do that. I look at a game like No Man's Sky and hope it can fulfill it's promise, and perhaps give us new things we didn't even know we wanted. The first Gears of War did that for me, as did the first Mass Effect, as did Uncharted, Bioshock, and the first Modern Warfare, to name a few. It's going to be hard for any games this gen to stun me as much as those games did, that's for sure.

kstap333312d ago

I too hope this gen proves more than shinier graphics. If that's all people want, there's a platform called PC. I'm looking for unique experiences.

Jedislayer3312d ago

real talk, that is all a friend of mine played for one year straight was gears of war one, nothing could top that game at that time.

StrawberryDiesel4203312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

I went out and bought an XBOX 360 right after playing Gears of War for the first time. It was just that good and I had to have it. Unfortunately, I don't think this next one will have that same magic. Black Tusk isn't exactly a well known dev that creates amazing AAA games. That being said, I will reserve judgement until I have the finished product unlike the morons that raked The Order: 1886 over the hot coals all the way up to release and after despite the fact for a new IP it was damn good just like Ryse. I bought my Xbone with a future Gears of War in mind just like I did with the PS4 when I saw the trailer for The Order and Bloodborne. I really hope it's at least as good as the others. I will be fine with more of the same because it's so damn good. All I ask is to make it more like the original which had a darker and grittier feel to it. Give me some gameplay and a release date, that of which I'm expecting at this years E3. Don't disappoint me Black Tusk/M$!

krypt19833311d ago

Blacktusk is filled with industry vets who have worked on all the top selling AAA games, and Rod is there to guide the ship the game is in great hands they will take it back to the promise land opposed to that shitty judgment multiplayer...

GarrusVakarian3312d ago

Good. Leave those dinosaurs in the past where they belong. I want games that take full advantage of the system I bought, no-last gen compromises.

Allsystemgamer3312d ago

Yea. I remember playing the first gears. It blew me away back then. We don't really get that feeling anymore. Currently suffering through bloodborne and it's awesome but it doesn't have THAT experience.

GarrusVakarian3312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

Speak for yourself. :P Multiple games this gen have given me that 'now THIS is next-gen' feeling already.

Ryse
Killzone SF
Driveclub
FH2
The Order 1886
Infamous SS
Sunset Overdrive

No doubt Gears will be among that list when it arrives, but it won't be the first to do it for me this gen like it was last gen.

I remember playing Gears 1 for the first time in "HD" on my new "HD" TV after playing GTA San Andreas on a crappy, portable TV for years. My mind was blown.

Jalva3311d ago (Edited 3311d ago )

@Allsystemgamer

"Currently suffering through bloodborne and it's awesome but it doesn't have THAT experience."

The reason you feel that way is because you are suffering from gaming fatigue, for people who are just getting into gaming now Bloodborne will be an experience they will remember for the rest of their gaming lives, just as fondly as you will remember the first Gears of War.

@Lukas_Japonicus

The only thing next-gen about those games you listed were the graphics, everything else about them was very 'been there, done that'.

Genuine-User3312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

How was this ever a contention lol.
They would be stupid to make it cross-gen at this point.

Here's hoping the new Tomb Raider is not compromised.

Stoppokingme3312d ago

It was never a chance of being cross gen-I don't know who thought it was a possibility to start with.

XB1 is more than a year old now-the next gears shouldn't be held back by the previous generation.

Jack_Of_All_Blades3312d ago
