Let's see what that might be, but definitely a 3rd party exclusive (BATMAN?). That would make a lot of noise and cause internet meltdown if it happens!

Shenmue III wouldn't be made without the direct support of a platform holder. Crowdfunding is too risky for Yu Suzuki and could end up being messy. I think of it like a Bayonetta 2 situation. If people get mad that Shenmue III is exclusive to PS4, that's downright selfish, and I already can tell the warped reactions it's going to get from those who want it on other platforms.

Tomb Raider is another situation entirely, and I'm not going to even go into that. Shenmue exclusivity will cause a ruckus, because although it's a deeply niche series, amongst the hardcore gaming community, it's a beloved unique gem that fans have been clamouring to see closure on for over a decade. Those who have chosen not to get a PS4 this gen will be blaming everyone but those who didn't decide to directly support it, if it happens.

As much as i like Shenmue (played it on DC, one of my all time favs - been waiting forever for 3!), I dont think it would be a system seller in the West. @uth11: You obviously missed Jim Ryan's comments about remasters. That's highly doubtful, no the Rage is going to be because of the awesomeness of whatever it is.
It's going to be because haters of PS4 are jealous as per usual. Probably something huge like a Shenmue Saga, exclusive and never going to another platform.

The whole Rage comment could easily have a double meaning, like a game made using the Rage engine, that's exclusive to PS4. Agent is still very much on the cards, since Rockstar takes ages to make their games and they're clearly partnered with Sony, because of Sony getting the marketing for GTAV, exclusive Bundles for that game too. You can't blame Rockstar either, I mean PS4 is the better system than Xbox One and it's absolutely destroying it in sales.

@walkincarpet Sony has had tonnes of great exclusives since day one, I don't honestly get the hate for games like Killzone and Knack, or Resogun, there's also Infamous they've all been great.
This holiday is great too, with Driveclub, best versions of cross gen games like LBP3, TLOU and then 2015 has like 15 big games completely exclusive to PS4 that have already been announced, any more and Sony really will bury the competition.

Greatness has been here from day one of the PS4's release, it comes in the form of exclusives, multiplats running the best, the best games that aren't available on Xbox One.

So far MS really has failed on the exclusive games front and multiplats are the PS4's domain, no doubt sales of those games are going to be more in Sony's favor next year as there really will be little reason to buy an Xbox One, especially with Wii U having the better line-up of exclusives, so that will be the secondary console most people will choose.

Third party exclusives never were the problem.

Buying out blatant timed-exclusivity on a sequel to a series that was always going to be coming out on other platform anyway is the problem. Lying on stage about its exclusivity status is the problem.

Try and distinguish between that, and situations where third party deals are made with new IPs or a game that would not be made unless it's directly funded by a company willing to do so.

The kind of hypocrisy you are implying only exists if the situations are DIRECTLY comparable. If this third party exclusive is a new IP then there should be no issue. If this third party exclusive is a game that would never be released otherwise, such as Shenmue III, then there should be no issue.

If it's something like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Fallout 4 timed exclusivity, then that is something people have the right to complain about, if other people are cheering it.

Depends on what the exclusive is. If it's a previously multi-plat title or one that was exclusive to another system before, then yeah, you're probably right. If it's a traditionally PS3 exclusive 3rd party title, then it'll just be business as usual.

Hiring a 3rd party studio or having a studio you own to develop an IP you own. Is vastly different from paying a publisher for an exclusive.

Sony pump money into making their own games, again that's easy to justify as you own the rights, so make the money back and you know it will stay exclusive.

A 3rd party IP is totally different. You don't own that IP so the publisher can do what they want (eve Phil Spencer says he can't stop SE releasing the game on another platform in the future as he doesn't own the IP) so the is no guarantee it will remain exclusive.

You have £3,000,000 to spend. Do you A) pay a 1st/3rd party studio to make a game you own the rights to B) pay a publisher to have a game they own as an exclusive?

Sigh...the problem with Rise of the Tomb Raider is that up until the exclusivity announcement it was made available for pre-order on the PS4. The game was originally announced for the PS4 as well, then suddenly it was pulled and pre-orders were cancelled.

An FF7 remake is pretty much guaranteed at some point, too much money in it for SE for them not to. The sticking point is that since Sony has exlcusive publishing rights in the West, it would be PS4 exclusive, SE want it on all platforms - I think this is stopping the remake.

I know everyone is claiming that Sony would buy a 3rd party exclusive but what about the PS2 era? With the PS2 Sony didn't need to pay for many exclusives due to the huge lead in install base compared to its competitors. Some people claim that sales dont matter but they can nab you exclusives for free especially with the way games are selling on the PS4.

Not exactly true they would have to surpass the breakeven point in order to even consider releasing a game on a platform. That's the way profit works you only make it if your revenue surpasses the costs that you incur to develope the product.

If a developer wants to produce a game exclusively for the PS4 without Sony paying anything for it I don't see a problem with that. Same goes for Microsoft with the free exclusives that they get. However if Sony bought a previously multiplatform game then I would see a huge problem with that.

Scene starts out spaceship flying through sky exploding, it's pieces are falling apart looks very realistic. *Black screen* A Girl says "He's here? Where is he? Where has he been? A Man in deep voice with an accent says "he's been in a world of repetitiveness a curse was put upon him but now he is back" Girl says "we need him he's our only hope!"

*Switches to a scene with the spaceship still flying and falling through the sky You see a mountain in the distance*

Black boot hits ground of snow You see orange fur Flowing. Switches back to spaceship a piece of the spaceship. Explodes and falls to the ground About 50 feet behind the Black Booted Figure. The spaceship part starts falling down the mountain grabbing snow turning into a ball of death.

The camera swings around The figure to show a buffed up tattooed crash bandicoot. You see his ears twitch and he turns around with a worried face. He sees the ball of death and immediately reverts back to the normal crash bandicoot comedically fast.

At that point he starts to run away from the ball of death similar to how you would run in Crash bandicoot games.

*It then switches to a bunch of different Scenes of gameplay very fast*

Then switches to a cinematic of crash bandicoot on his motorcycle in his leather jacket hitting nitro going up a ramp. He jumps off his bike in mid air and does a spin.

The camera goes in slow motion as his tongue hits the camera and it pushes it further away from him saliva specks on the camera.

Now in non-slow motion His jacket and sun glasses fly off He then faces the camera still in mid air and from behind his back he pulls an Apple launcher and shoots it straight at the camera the Apple splats on the camera. *black screen* "Crash is Back Holiday 2015"
Crash Bandicoot theme starts to play and crash dances across the text.

Then on to the Uncharted gameplay.

I'm not a fan of third party exclusives and I've said this before, I think first party games should be the difference. It wouldn't surprise me though as Microsoft may have started something that could back fire. It's easier to convince someone to go exclusive if you're leading in sales as the long term gains are more of an attraction.
I kinda hope it's first party related otherwise sites like N4G will become a nightmare for a time.
