PSN Issues: PSN Friends List Issues Reported

Over the last ten minutes or so, Reddit and Twitter have been flooded with reports of PSN friends lists disappearing and an error message saying, "The connection to the server has been terminated."

Xbl is having issues just as much? What joke planet are you living on? Xbl might go down from time to time but its back up in 20 min. In the last 6 months I've had issues signing into Xbox live twice.

I don't understand why people keep making excuses for Sony. Psn isn't free anymore. Anytime someone has an issue with it some goofball says oh xbl is the same. No it's not. Not even close.

How long as xbl been running? Since 2001? Since then they have had maybe 5 MAJOR service outages. A major outage is one that lasts more than 4 hours. Psn seems to have major outages every other week and that doesn't include the constant "down for maintenance"

Demand more, get more. As long as you keep letting Sony believe their service is acceptable they will just keep running it the same way. Enough is enough.

They've made some changes to the back-end servers recently. So there are some limitations in games outside your region. (Can't play Europe/Asia version of a game online if there's a N/A version)

Kinda sucks, given how open PSN was... just last Tuesday.

In my opinion, friend's list not working is being down. I play a lot of online co-op and even if I am playing a single player game I am almost always in a party talking to someone.

Xbox had it happen this past weekend for me for like 12 hours and it was unacceptable then. Having no access to my friends list for that amount of time is unacceptable if it is a service I am paying for. If you internet goes down for more than 2 hours, are you guys not calling you ISP to complain?

Exactly. That's what all these complaining idiots don't understand. Sony has been hard at work on 2.0 which will make the Playstation experience 10 X better. That requires maintenance to the network. I agree. When "always online" was first announed by Microsoft, I thought, "OK, I don't see the big deal" but now I understand. Both Sony and Microsoft and EA and 2K and everyone else who makes the users utilize servers for their games should at least make sure the damn things work.

Out of all of those that you listed, MS needs to be taken off of that list. Xbox servers have not been down, and the friends list issue was fixed in a matter of hours same with the DDOS attack on MS servers.

had xbox 360 from launch and it was flawless online prob 95% over the entire generation.
had a ps3 for a year and it was always up and down,then itwas down cos of the hack for a month or so.

now i had ps4 since launch and its slow,getting into store is sluggish,downloading is slow and the servers just aint good enough.

@Palitera Its not that they are lazy, its the fact that Sony is hemorrhaging cash right now. The gaming media is not reporting this for whatever reason, but Sony is spiraling out of control in financial losses. They are likely diverting cash from the successful divisions to keep the company afloat in other areas. Sony also knows they can get away with a lot of neglecting the gaming customers because when they screw them, gamers usually stumble over each other to defend Sony, instead of demanding better.

WTF you think this is new news?? Really. My friends list hasn't worked for me in months. If you hit a certain amount of ppl on the list it pretty much shows nothing but an empty space. Even trying to get it on Battlelog PS4 doesn't show anything what so ever. Eh, that's my gripe. Not just sony but anyone who charges for a service must be able to constantly provide the service. Rare outages are to be expected with any service, but the way PSN has been, even Live a few months was getting all messed about once a week, has been appalling. We are PAYING them for this.

I hate to say this as a huge PS fan, but damn this is ridiculous. I had a 360 & a PS3 last gen and both were a helluva lot more stable than my PS4. Half the time the friends list and reading messages takes forever and a day to load even when they're working. As much as people like to rag on MS at least they have a damn fine online service and look how fast they've been bringing out updates. MS has already brought out several different significant updates while we've been waiting on the same one for months now. I'm very disappointed in Sony as of late. First DriveClub now this.... Def not Sonys best month.

The fact the PS4 still doesn't have a youtube app and also has still got problems with the o.s/psn eg the friends list glitch and laggy messages etc almost 1 year on and still Sony has not addressed anything!
The system needs to be fixed so it works properly.
And i hope over time (but not long like now lol) they improve the o.s it just feels so bare bones compared to when i am using my X1.

I completely agree. I'd give back all my free games in a heartbeat if it meant Sony would invest more in their online security and services. Let's be honest here folks the free games aren't mind blowing good anyway, and if you like them that much you'd be more than willing to pay $10.00 for them if it meant your online worked.
A lot of fanboys act like MS has similar problems but it NEVER has been this bad. When my PS3 was down for a month from that hack you know what I did? I turned on my xbox360 and played Halo 3? That's insane. You know what is more annoying, all you'll get is a message it's up and no reinbersment or apology. We all expected rare outages, like with electric, cable, phone, etc...but when you're paying for a service it should only experience rare outages and work on a consistent basis. I remember a few months back I was pumped to go home and play on Live and it was down. I work to pay my bills and my earned money goes to these companies. Fix the damn server, both MS and Sony. These should be even more stable then last gen !!!

I had last gen a xbox360 and a PS3... this gen i always wanted a xone becuse of great experience with XBL and the gorgeous UI with its snap mode but i gave Sony a try...

In all frustration i didnt play Destiny today cause i am getting fed up with this shiat... i will get my white SSO xone bundle in 2 weeks and than i will sell my PS4.

I sure hope Sony is ready to make a public statement about this with compensation. Some people left their Xbox 360s for what they believed was a solid network and Sony seems to be borderline embezzling.

I say it all the time and I'm sure many of you have said it as well: these companies cannot be trusted to have too much success over their competition. This is embarrassing. Great start for the console, but it's losing its advantage while the Xbox One and Wii U continue to look great.

Now, to be fair, this online issue barely concerns me directly since I play single player or local multiplayer 95% of the time because I'm old, but I still pay for this service and I don't appreciate Sony not building this network up. Xbox Live on X360 started at $50/yr, and Sony is getting the same compensation. If they don't figure this out, I won't be renewing Plus.

It's probably because of their success that these issues are happening. They've sold faster than even they predicted as they've said and their network wasn't ready. Couple that with trying to supply updates and they've been stretched thin.

I agree they're likely being stretched thin here, but this is poor planning on their end. If the same team that handles console updates handles infrastructure, then they really need to reevaluate their setup. Fact is, the console continues to exceed expectations, time and time again. How have they not prepared for this contingency? Likewise, they marketed Destiny to kingdom come and they didn't anticipate that server load? They need to keep track of how many consoles are in consumer hands and how many have left their facilities. That way, they could prepare for any server overload.

I love PlayStation, but they really need to get it together. I'll be playing Bayonetta 2 until then. Who knows? Maybe Xbox One could have similar issues once the install base opens up.

I think the incredible sales of the ps4 caught Sony off guard. They don't have the cash to build new data centers to support the load from all the new psn subscribers. Right now they have to choose between adding servers, financing exclusive content, and making payroll.

Funny, the 360 and PS3 had WAY more people connected to either PSN or LIVE and these outages didn't happen and the worst part of all, PS3 was more stable and it was free! I shouldn't be getting less of a service when I'm actually paying. For all the years I gamed on LIVE, I never encountered hiccups in the network quite like this. It's actually embarrassing on Sony's part. Got kicked off TLOU MP earlier.

As much as I love sony and their products, the situation of psn is worrying/annoying.

First it was all those indie games that sony throws us each and every month.
Then the frequent downtimes of the network.
Then the DC fiasco: the fact that you literally cant connect to a game that is supposed to implement deep social/ online features (you simply cant play with specific cars since launch for gods shake). Then the fact that they used DC as a marketing tool to promote psn, but they failed to make it available for the users!!! The excuses provided by sony, are simply sad and doesn't change the fact that DC PLUS EDITION was simply a case of false advertising on they behalf.

Anyways, I really hope that all of the above, are not indications of a really bad financial situation.
