Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition Delayed

By now basically everyone and his mother (and whole family) knows that the PlayStation Plus Edition of Driveclub didn’t pop up on the North American PSN yesterday as it was previously announced. Game Director Paul Rustchynsky just posted a message on the game’s official facebook explaining that the download is being delayed together with the companion app in order to ease server traffic.

Damn, the whole Driveclub thing is exploding big time, first low review scores and now this, i just hope the UK launch on Friday goes off without a hitch, because regardless of the low scores, i am still itching to play the game.

Abriael3478d ago

I wouldn't worry about the low scores. The reviewers I know that are actually racing game enthusiasts and know how to judge a good driving models scored the game high (gametrailers' Bloodworth is a good example. He knows his stuff around racing games).

The others can do little else that count features and complain that there's no rewind.

Wow! So...you know what, Im gonna leave it alone. That comment tells me everything I need to know.
*edit* Ok Ill bite. The fact you can be so biased and have that many agrees and bubbles is what gets me down on this community.

DevelopmentArrested3478d ago

There you have it. Only reviewers that score the game high actually know how to judge this game. I guess nobody else's opinion should count. /s

Genuine-User3478d ago

You're absolutely correct.
Daniel Bloodworth is almost always spot on with his reviews. He's also a racing enthusiast.
on topic, I hope they don't delay it for more than a week.

starrman19853478d ago

Nice back-hander there to the xbox community, totally not needed!

Couple of friends got to play it yesterday at a managers conference (they work in game stores) both came back with the same feelings, that it's beautiful, like really really beautiful but ultimately just an arcade racer. I actually thought it was more of a simulation but that might just be me getting the wrong end of the stick.

I think the low scores are probably a good thing though, they will lower expectations because they were clearly too high, that much hype is always always a bad thing! It doesn't have any direct competition on the PS4 at the moment so it will sell

amiga-man3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

Absolutely Abriel, I'm excited by this game the review scores are all over the place the people who will apprieciate this game most are the real racers.

If you want to be spoon fed your achievements racing but not really working for your victories Driveclub is (probably) not for you, if you want a challenge enjoy competition while doing that in a graphically very impressive game Drive club is out on it's own.

Theres a lot of fun for the real racers in Driveclub, once the multi player has gotten it's teething problems sorted and the new weather patch added the game will be even more fun to play..

DaleCooper3478d ago

Bloodworth is probably my favorite reviewer out there. He really knows his stuff and I trust his judgment. I say this not owning a ps4, but if he said Driveclub is good then you can be sure it is.

Volkama3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

That's bull. The reviewer over at eurogamer is a racing game enthusiast, even so far as naming GT6 his GOTY for 2013.

Some people don't like the game, most reviews have listed very valid reasons for it. Their opinions may not jive with yours, but that doesn't mean you can claim "they're wrong, anyone that doesn't share my opinion just doesn't know what they're talking about".

Personally I haven't played it, and have formed no opinion either way. The "overly grippy" handling and apparently irritating punishment mechanism are concerns, so I will definitely try the plus edition whenever it comes out.

Abriael3478d ago

@Volkama: a racing game enthusiast that bases his whole review about getting a penalty for cutting corners (and you need to cut them REALLY badly to get penalized, just two wheels out aren't enough)?

Yeeeah sure :D

Naming GT6 at GOTY doesn't make a racing game enthusiast, knowing that cutting a corner with the whole car is a bad idea is a start.

Volkama3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

The reviewer at Eurogamer was chosen because he is a racing game enthusiast. GT6 being his favourite game of 2013 isn't conclusive evidence that he is an expert, but it is probably enough to say your assumption is without basis.

But that is just one review in a pile. It happened to contradict your theory so I mentioned it. This one review isn't really why I challenged what you said.

The "I am right and you should ignore other opinions because mine is more important" sentiment is what I called out.

jib3478d ago

snap. he got you cornered abriael

Abriael3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

Not really. Saying "hey, this guy's a racing enthusiast!" is not enough to make him knowledgeable, and no real racing enthusiast would complain about perfectly warranted penalties to encourage sportmanship.

(or say the absolutely ludicrous things he said about the handling lol).

It's funny, because that review got called out by its own site on Digital Foundry.

Gazondaily3477d ago

"It's funny, because that review got called out by its own site on Digital Foundry"

No it didn't. They just merely stated a difference of opinion. It want even a dissenting one. So nothing got 'called out'. That's just romanticising a minor point.

Volkama3477d ago

So we've come full circle back to "anyone who doesn't agree with me is just not smart enough to have the right opinion" again?

You are not covering yourself in glory here.

if you check this site (dualshockers) review its a pretty nice score (not that I care about 'scores' at all anyway) and a very nice put review.
Im sure I ll enjoy this game very much and doesnt bother me to wait a bit longer

Farmassy3477d ago

isn't dualshockers a playstation site? As in the dualshock 4?

What do you know, a playstation site said that the playstation exclusive was good. You should probably go get the game then

ocelot073478d ago

Low review scores? There has been more posative reviews than bad. Look on Metacritic at the moment based of 46 reviews it is currently sitting at 73/100 that is not bad for a new IP and a supposed basic racing game.

37 of them 46 reviews are 7/10 and above.

Palitera3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

That IS bad, unless you make a big denial effort, Abriael-style, to forget that these were scores given in the gaming reviews standard. So yes, 7.6 IS bad if you were not expecting a very mediocre game.

bsquwhere3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

Palitera are you stupid? Its a legit question. 7.6 is not a mediocre score. 7.6 out of 10 is a pretty solid score. 5 or 6 is mediocre. I don't believe you know what mediocre is. Actually I'm sure you do, you own a Xbox. I'm tired of the Xbox fanboys saying that PS fans are all over this site, when a PS game gets a 7.6 and its the end of PlayStation. This place is a car wreck itself.

ocelot073478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

Lol 16 disagrees so all them rated 7/10 titles are average?

Gears of War Judgement
Dead Rising 2
Far Cry
Lost Odyssey
Dragons Dogma

Them titles I just mentioned mostly got 7/10 are they average games? I don't think so.

rainslacker3478d ago

@Palitera

Only some in the community consider anything below an 8 a bad score. It used to be that 7's were worth a try, because you may like it, whereas an 8 meant that it was worth a try because you probably would like it. 5-6 would be that it could be good if you were into that kind of game, but it had some flaws that you would have to work through. 4 was for diehard fans of a genre, and 3 or below was for a seriously broken/bad game.

I can understand some of the ratings for 5-6 on this game, as some reviewers could perceive it that way, but 4 or less is just ridiculous. The game isn't broken(outside current server issues), and even the bad reviews concede that it at least does what it set out to do, although comes up lacking in some of those things...which is why I have a hard time understanding why they get rated so low.

The rating system overall hasn't changed in 20 years as to what the scores mean, just what some in the community perceive this to mean. This phenomenon may be the reason that so many reviewers score games higher than they should be, because they don't want to give the wrong impression on what they're trying to score...although that's being generous on my part.

The PS+ version delay does suck and it does disappoint me. I can understand exactly why everybody feels the way they do, and I totally agree! But we just need to keep in mind that with a flagship racing game like this...we're lucky to be getting a free version regardless of a delay. It's a great business model in my opinion and I think more devs should try it with their games.
Just don't forget that the PS+ edition is *free*. So we're only paying with patience..
ALTHOUGH I must add we have all been plenty patient with the lengthy delays of the entire game.

Funky Town_TX3478d ago

'We're temporarily holding back the PS Plus Edition and the DRIVECLUB companion app to ease the load and traffic on the servers'

Shouldn't be a long wait then.

vega2753478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

IDK but I find it strange that they are having server problems with the free version of the game but you can buy and install the paid version. I could see them delaying the digital version altogether if this was really the case. I think they saw the review and decided to purposely delay the PS+ version to get as many blind sales as they can.

Shady tactic if thats the case. Of course sony would never admit that.

sin72793478d ago

Not only free version,my retail version also can contact to servers!

DEEBO3478d ago

Lol BS sony and this coming from a fan of yours.

medman3478d ago

Yeah, Sony needs to get their stuff together...they've built a good sales lead and a good product, but it seems they are not being aggressive and taking advantage of the situation but rather playing it safe...they've been falling down recently with online interruptions of their service, and as a ps4 and ps3 owner (along with a 360) I'm still waiting to hear and see what so many of their fantastic developers are working on. Now the psplus version of DriveClub is delayed, a version they've been touting for so long misses it's target date...unless they've been lying all along and never had any intention of releasing it day and date with the retail version. Either way, not good. Somebody over at Sony needs to crack the whip and get the ducks in a row before Sony squanders the good will gamers feel toward them at the moment.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut8595d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio95d ago (Edited 95d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack94d ago (Edited 94d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander197294d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff218394d ago (Edited 94d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim94d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno94d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff218394d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 94d ago
Chocoburger94d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai94d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC94d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.
