PS4 Firmware 2.0 is 'just around the corner'

Sony’s Fred Dutton has teased that PlayStation 4’s much anticipated Firmware 2.0 update is “just around the corner.”

Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Dutton wouldn’t be drawn into commenting on any new hardware features in the pipeline for PS4, but indicated the next update will drop soon.

"I can't comment on new hardware features today, other than to say that [updates] are always in the works – as previously announced there's a big PS4 update just round the corner that we'll be talking more about soon,” he said.

This is the one that will bring direct-to-YouTube uploads, and a dedicated YouTube app, right? I hope so. It's a pain in the arse to keep having to put my The Last of Us MP gameplay on a stick and transfer it to my PC.

yep it will bring youtube uploading to the PS4 i dislike having to use usb stick to transfer to my pc i also hope it allows you to do it without the share factory themes i always have to go in custom it to remove the themes

Share Play lets you remotely share your games with your friends.

The downside with it though -

1. You can't use your PS4 while they are remoted in.
2. The connection expires after 1 hour forcing people to have to reconnect. (Likely so someone can't just set it up and leave on holidays)

You can download Dust and Spelunky for free on PSN now. Though, DriveClub ps+ edition isn't available yet as they haven't updated the ps plus section. Just go to new games and you'll see Dust and Spelunky... They both have a price but when you click them they're available for free through plus.

Might not even be 2.0. I'm not hyping updates anymore I'll just see them when they get here. Yes I heard 2.0 was supposed to be before DC, but I hear a lot of things. Confirmed or not confirmed, words can't always be trusted. I hope 2.0 is coming soon and brings great things!

I upload my own gameplay to share on NeoGAF and between friends.

I'm waiting patiently for this update, finally can get rid of that blue background, and finally a YouTube app! I know you can use the Web browser for YouTube but it just isn't the same.

I don't know if it's just me but some times it takes forever for my friends list to load up and the messages, I'm hoping this isn't the case with the update!

Yeah sometimes I have to refresh the message list a couple of times before it pops up, and then other times I'll get a message,check the message and it'll still say I have a new message even though I don't. Deleting messages seems like it doesn't work sometimes to. The most annoying thing bout the friends list is that it doesn't update nearly enough. I'll look at my friends list and it'll say 12 then I'll click the friends list and only 3 people will be online.... What? It needs to be set up like the PS3 so when someone gets online you get a notification and when someone gets offline you get a notification....With the option to turn notifications off.
Hate when some random on my friends list joins and rejoins a party chat(that I'm not even in) and it repeatedly sends me notifications while I'm watching netflix.

I know right, in this day in age where updates to consoles are treated like the 2nd coming by platform holders. tell us when it is or go somewhere else with the "around the corner comment". this is one aspect I don't like about sony they are always late to provide updates compared to the competition then they have the cheek to come out with comments like these

Well considering Far Cry 4 share play was heavily demonstrated during the Sony conference, I'd say 2.0 will be released with or before the release of Far Cry 4.

How about getting rid of all the sharing and multitasking bulls$#*t and free up more RAM and the CPU to bring higher quality games. I'm tired of this all-in-one crap. The PS4 and Xbox One are a jack of all trades, but a master at none and I'm tired of it. My Apple TV does content better than my consoles and I'm fine with that. Just give me better games.

I would estimate there's a 0% chance you'll ever see Flash video on the PS4.

you can watch youtube on the ps4. if you go to the ps4 web browser and enter youtube.com/tv - this page works almost exactly the same as the youtube app on the ps3. you can even pair it with your pc or tablet/phone and control it from the device while playing it via the ps4.

like the guy above me said, you've been able to watch YouTube on ps4 since launch by going to the site he specified, i do it everyday. The controls aren't the best with the dualshock 4 but if you have a phone, tablet or laptop just use them to control the videos. Using the dualshock is still a viable option, just not ideal.

they need to get the whip cracked on their infrastructure. We're forced to pay for their shitty service, and it's so slow and unresponsive. took me 20 minutes to receive a damn message, and then when i hit delete, the message took till the next day to delete from the inbox. ps4 psn has gone down more times in this past year than ps3 ever did in it's entire 7 year lifespan of owning one. It's a complete joke. Why are not people up in arms about being forced to pay for their crap service.
