Yeah right. Watch Dogs had way less hype than Destiny and it has a higher metacritic score. (80 vs 75). By any objective metric Destiny was more the game that failed to live up to its hype.

Your own opinion doesn't matter in this discussion because we all have our own opinions. One person might hate Destiny and Infamous and love Watch Dogs, while someone else hates Infamous SS and Watch Dogs and loves Destiny. We all have our own opinions on these games, but if we are going to talk about the overall reception or hype of a game we have to go off of things that can actually be measured.

As I own alll three , watchdogs is by far the most boring game I've bought in a few years . Infamous was a 7 . It was just way to easy & the story made me mad after the brother died . It was fun , but way to much of the same type of missions . Meanwhile Destiny is pretty amazing if you give it a try . A solid 9 in my opinion . But I find my self playing plants vs zombies gw way more then any game on next gen . Such a sleeper . Can get lost for hours playing it !

In any case, I liked Watch Dogs. I haven't played Destiny yet, but it seems some people really like it while others don't. We all have our own tastes and preferences.

After leaving MS to keep from being trapped into making Halo games forever, they turned right around and made a Halo game. Something with an overly grand scaled adventure which only a sole ground solider, a "chosen one" who really gives off no indication of being extra ordinary, can complete.

Though I think Halo had at least more than one instance where "shoot it then shoot it some more" solved everything.

Destiny is really fun.

Most of the complaints I've heard are about the Story and PvP.

* Basically = this:

* Those who are only interested in the Story, found it disappointing, they then equate the entire game to sucking.

* Those who aren't good at PvP, so then say there must be something wrong with the PvP, because they are doing bad.

You know the whole " PvP takes no skill"......mean while they go 3-17.

It takes skill, you just don't have any person complaining...

Destiny is fun for what it is, and it gets A LOT of the small details right.

The story's main concept is awesome, the actual story we get though, kind of does suck.

The gameplay is awesome, and the sparrow is the funnest in game vehicle I've ever driven.

They got a ton right, but people who are ignorant.....those things are above their comprehension level, so they don't understand those small details.

If you haven't bought into the hype, then it won't disappoint you, as its still an awesome game. Does it live up to the impossible amount of hype behind it? No. No game could have done that.

But as long as you are okay with a weak story, and very similar missions, then you will be okay, as the actual gameplay is immensely fun and polished. Basically, aside from the two things I mentioned, which seems to be the biggest argument from all the reviews, the game is great. I give it a solid 8.5.

The game deserves an 8 at most but nothing lower than a 7.5 and this game has critically wounded bungie as a triple A developer as it hasn't ever been able to make a game like Halo because all the other games they developed have not managed to be that great. I would blame the poor performance of bungie on Bobby Kotick as I view him as the reason the game that the game is past gen and probably forced bungie for parity between consoles like he did with the COD series. Had this game allowed more players per map and actually pushed the 5GB of ram that the next gen systems could handle, I wouldn't doubt that we would have Battlefield lovers praising this game for the immensive enviroment, destructable enviroments with the Halo touch and MMO elements included but instead the Destiny we got could never be what it was meant to be.

Well I tried the alpha and beta and they bored me to death.
I let a friend (with very similar tastes) buy it first and he hates it, and ive watched streams and found them very boring too.
I'm not saying its a bad game, technically it was impressive. I was surprised how solid and stable the game was, the alpha was more stable than many final releases. But as far as tastes and opinions go it really isn't for me and I'm glad I didn't buy it. I very nearly did just because everyone else was but I held back.

Nope. Watch Dogs was mainly in the news due to delays and talk of "downgrades". Destiny was by far the game that was hyped more. Yet it also scored 5 points lower than Watch Dogs. (Watch Dogs has an 80, while Destiny has a 75).

Watch Dogs was just about what I was expecting. It didn't absolutely blow me away, but it was a very enjoyable game.

Yeah, but individual opinions are worthless in this context. There are as many opinions on these games as there are individuals. The subject is which game was a bigger disappointment and which failed to meet its hype to a greater degree. Looking at the hype and the critical reception of both games Destiny was clearly the worse in that regard.

If we're just talking about personal opinions, I doubt anyone cares, but I wouldn't consider either game to be a failure or a disappointment because I don't buy into hype in the first place. Watch Dogs was a fun game to me, and Destiny will probably be too.

Edit: Oh never mind. Reading over all of these comments I realize what it is all about. Sony fans are defending Destiny and bashing Titanfall and Watch Dogs, while Xbox Fans defend Titanfall and bash Destiny and Watch Dogs. That's just sad and pathetic. The gaming community is a joke.

This game has none of that. Like I said before, aside from a weak story and similar missions, the game is great. No way in hell is it a 6/10.

PS4 fans are diligently defending their purchases of Destiny like it was an exclusive or their own child.

Xbox fans did the same with Titanfall which was do boring after 1 or 2 days you had seen it all.

Believe it or not, this game is not as bad as the "professional" reviewers would have people believe. Just look at the amount of people in these Destiny comments that love the game. Ive had enough of it.All missions were the same. Go to point A, get out your ghost to scan & defend against waves of enemies. Then at the end there's a big bullet sponge boss that takes forever to kill.I think the actual shooting & overall gameplay was fine, just so repetitive, too repetitive for my liking.

Sometimes I look at these articles/comments from the internet and I wonder if we all played the same game but I know we did. It just baffles me to see some ppl say Destiny is worst than Titanfall when Titanfall's so called story is very laughable compared to destiny and Destiny's Mp has more stuff to keep you coming back than Titanfall's such as guns etc... also its really fun to play. Well I'm just so glad internet comments or whatever never influences my personal opinion on a game or anything for that matter. I played the Destiny beta and loved it and That's why I bought the game. Anyone can disagree with me but I got what I was expecting out of Destiny and personally I'll rate it a 8.5/10 solid game play that sometimes made forget there's even a story, great atmosphere/environments, great soundtrack, that gets you in the mood, good loot system. But hey!!!! that's just my opinion.

It'll be interesting to compare Halo:MCC (and eventually Halo5) with Bungie's new universe.

I don't think Destiny stands a chance narratively speaking, and I think Bungie knew that.

I'm most interested in seeing how the player customization compares. I love customizing my armor. Halo:Reach was really where it shined for Halo. Halo 4 seemed like a step back - and Destiny, obviously, has taken it to the next level.

I wonder whether Halo will be able to come back and top Destiny's armor customization, cause IMO the last best was also the last Bungie made Halo, not 343i's Halo4.

This whole ordeal is really kinda sad if you think about it. We have these game journalist calling a game a disappointment when it was them that 'hype' games up to the enth degree.

Sure the developers are also at fault delivering on games that are far below what was promised. They are guilty of hyping their games but guess what that is what they do. They spent years of hard work creating something they think is great so of course they are going to be proud of it.

I don't get why the game journalist are trying to act all innocent here when they are as much to blame for hyping a game up as the developers. We get constant previews saying this 'game is the next best thing', rave about it in previews but when the actual review comes out it isn't as glowing as their previews.

See i applaud Activision for not handing out copies of the game (Destiny) for gaming sites. In the end it is the general audience that will decide if a game is good or not, i don't see why we need game journalist to tell us what is good or bad about a game. The reason cause everyone has different opinions, I rather make my own assumption.

Even though this game is not as great as expected you can bet your ass Sony will still push the white PS4s as eventually the black model will run out and 150,000 to 500,000 that sony produced will be sold out for that reason. Sony should focus on investing on first party exclusives or established blockbuster franchises to sell bundles. Microsoft is smart for offering COD and Madden with consoles sold as it is a franchise people enjoy. Sony should try getting a Fifa 15 bundle and NBA2K15.

I really dont understand the hate for this game. I was in no way hyped for it whatsoever i learned my lesson not to hype anything but i tell you this game brought me back to the online play. I been always a single player guy but its because of this game that i came back into online gaming and i love it. The leve system, gameplay and coop fights are solid and there are no technical glitches that i have seen

Most disappointing to who? Not me, I absolutely love Destiny. True it's not for everyone but to the millions that love it, it rocks. I play religiously with the same 6 to 8 people daily. We all help each other with strikes and crucible and have a blast why playing. I will be level 26 today and will help my team (who are mostly 20's) get to 26 so that we can do the raid. True it has its flaws but what in life doesn't. Enjoy the game for what it is and not what you want it to be. I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Uh, no...get real...the title of biggest disappointment of 2014 belongs to Watch Dogs or Titanfall...you know the game that was previously known as the "CoD Killing System Seller"?

Destiny has the potential and the budget to still do something great, while the other two games where just flashes in the pan this is a game that is meant to evolve over time.

Problem is too much content is being held back in favor of building a solid foundation for a game that many people where looking forward to getting their hands on and spending countless hours on right away.

At this rate Destiny is going to turn into one of those games that focus entirely too much on PvP or potentially even E-Sports rather than co-op or exploration based content like most people where looking forward to just to keep a certain user base happy...which is sad because I could've sworn PvP was supposed to be an afterthought.

Regardless of all this, I'm disappointed in the game myself for not meeting my own personal preferences and expectations...though not to the extent of that I felt like I wasted my money on the game and definitely not to the extent to claim it's the most disappointing game of 2014.
