Destiny’s Lack of Personality is its Biggest Weakness

Destiny is a great shooter, if that’s all you’re there for.

I would say its lack of identity is it's biggest weakness.

linkenski3506d ago

Isn't that almost the same?

joab7773506d ago

Exactly. It's a damn mmo. I wish Bungie had simply embraced that...and adding 30 min of stupid cut scenes woulda satisfied so many ppl who just wanted a single playthrough.

But give it time. They r not done and now they have to b an mmo, so it will evolve and mature and as we voice r opinions, it will get better.

I am not giving up on an mmo this good already. It's core mechanics are superb.

Roccetarius3506d ago

Why exactly do you think, that it's an MMO? There's nothing massive about the game, since at max you can meet about 5 - 10 people at any given time.

Even Bungie didn't call it that, because it's just another Multiplayer game with a few lobbies.

yankolo3506d ago

Destiny its just a game....

Kyosuke_Sanada3506d ago (Edited 3506d ago )

Paying 60 bucks for a product kinda raises customer's expectations a bit and that's' not including the monster known as hype. Crazy, I know.......

joab7773506d ago

Really? What game do we pay $60 for that has more content or that doesn't rely on 10 mp maps for replayability?

Seriously, a few epic cut scenes and we wouldn't b having this conversation.

cooperdnizzle3506d ago (Edited 3506d ago )

Joab777@

I can name a bunch of games that are way better then Destiny that have more content. Both Metro games are better, League of Legends, All mass effect games are better Uncharted, Far Cry 3. And that is just a very few.

Destiny has absolutely no story, not audio logs, no written tableture through out the game, no characters through out the game and is extremely lacking in the mmo parts. You face nearly the same enemy's through out the hole game. The mission are exactly the same "Get me to this terminal so I can scan for fallen" Side missions send you back to the same place as the story missions and are the exact same formual as the story missions (waves of enemy's spawning) The hole game is mediocre at best.

The multilayer is broken, unbalanced, with mediocre level design and few horrible maps. 6V6 really not pushing any boundaries there. There are only two vehicles that you can mess around with. The powers are a joke and the hole thing feels rushed. Not to mention they said plenty of times how big and expansive this game was going to be. They shot themselves in the foot with that.

So if you could come up with a counter argue that has even half of pros to my cons then be my guest but I doubt you could, as this game is not that great and there isn't to many great things about it.

Goku7813506d ago

Destiny is a great game. They just need to make sure they iron out and show a great story. My only gripe is I wish it had a great sound track. Its good but not great though there are epice highlights.

Gr1mmyshadows3506d ago

What!?!?!?!? The soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard. I actually noticed the soundtrack in this game which is something I rarely notice. Bungie has done an amazing job with Destiny from, top to bottom

spicelicka3506d ago

what??? This is Marty! every sound in the game gave me goosebumps, I have no idea how you dislike the soundtrack, it's magical!!

Trekster_Gamer3506d ago

Lack of deep immersive story,
Level are played out in a repetitive manner. Another annoyance, weak predictable AI.
The voice acting is very forgettable.
For such a polished game, it feels unfinished.

linkenski3506d ago

I wouldn't say "Lack of deep story" because I don't think anyone who read into what this game was gonna be ever expected it to have a deep and engaging storyline. I think what fails about it though is that it tries to have a story but it's just way too banal and there's no characterization to even a big character like Ghost. I didn't expect it to have likable characters but it definitely seemed like that's what it was going for so it's really puzzling how simple and lackluster the writing is.

I didn't think this game really needed a deep story. It just didn't need to indulge us so much in its cutscenes and exposition if it didn't really have a story to tell.

Gr1mmyshadows3506d ago

Try the heroic weekly strikes and you will be eating those words about weak AI.

cooperdnizzle3506d ago

@Linkenski.

They said plenty of times there would be a deep story.
Point set and match, read the back of the box for one example. "Rich cinematic storytelling set in huge worlds to explore. Not to mention countless times they said the exact same thing for the past 2 years.

Cha0tik3505d ago

Maybe because it isn't finished. Bungie has a 10 year plan for this game.

I never played Destiny so i can't say anything about it, but i want to see Bungie to work on another projects, not just sci-fi shooters, the studio is amazing.
Probably we will have sequels or dlcs for Destiny though.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter325d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell324d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig325d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast325d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g325d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka325d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai476d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface475d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard473d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
