5 Game Franchises That Should Reboot Their Lore

League of Legends and Tomb Raider have already done it -- here are five other game franchises that would benefit from a clean slate of lore.

I don't think any of these need to reboot their lore.

Metal Gear is fine.

Sonic can just start telling the same old stories and stop the new horrible stories.

Assassin's Creed is all over the place, but I don't think rebooting the lore would help.

Kingdom Hearts can't reboot the lore. The third game is coming out. As confusing as the story is at this point, it would make no sense.

Resident Evil doesn't need a reboot. It needs to refocus on the original characters and story.

I agree, also that would be the most legendary moment in history of video games. I hope Kojima plans to remade MG1&2 in the future if he isn't too old lol, instead of MGS1. SS vs GF + BB :)!

Maybe after Silent Hills we hear more info if it happens or not.

I don't get it, either. I'm 25, but I definitely try to experience things from before I was born. A good story is a good story.

That's an ill conceived and lousy list aside from Resident Evil , wich doesnt even truly need a reboot . It was never shakespeare and that well written , it's mostly lacking focus and need to drop gimmick hodgepoges of silly monster zombie mash ups , and go back to the basics of its take on horror .

When your monsters looks worse than the human centipede and any syfy movie , time to stop and think again .

As for the rest , sounds more like you've got issues with long series using an established continuity , than some genuine problem following it . We do need a few games like that , instead of rebooting everything

I mean come on Assassin Creed ? When the concept of it lend itself already to exploring a bunch of eras and most of the ancestry , timelines and plotting of it easily layed out for us ? It is not "Lost" you know

KH is'nt that hard to follow tho I did take a few days to process the mind f*ck ending in Dream Drop Distance. lol

I think the problem with Kingdom Hearts is that all of the games are spread over multiple platforms, each explaining a bit of the story.

When I first played KH2 I was completely lost (never played Chain Of Memories), it never even occurred to me that I had to play CoM to know what was going on until I read up about it :/

Thats wont rlly be a problem once 2.5HD comes out every KH game will technically be on PS3 except KH3D

I reckon Resident Evil should never have had a lore in the first place. It would've been better if each RE game had its own standalone story that was unconnected to the other games.

The setting should also be confined like the first being in a mansion or like revelations being confined to a ship. It was being trapped in this small space surrounded by zombies and what have you that really gave it more tension and induced fear.

Although RE2 was great the city was too large a playing area. You hardly ever had that tense moment of a zombie being close and you're panicking to kill it.

Re2's city might have been large , but it was constantly closing in on you during a zombie apocalypse , so the sense of confinement and the tension was quite intact . It provided another layer of thrill , instead of you willingly entered some haunted house twice in a row

rebooting lore in a franchise people still like is always a bad idea, it only works for Tomb Rider because there was already an unpopular reboot before the popular one took place
