[Survey] PS4 Destiny Players Outnumber Xbox One Players By 63% to 24%

In a recent survey conducted among the active players on Reddit’s Destiny community, it is clearly visible that the exclusivity deal between Sony and Activision is proving to be very much in favor of the former. Out of total, 63% players have claimed that they will be playing Destiny on their PlayStation 4 console and only 24% voted that they'll play on the Xbox One console.

True but its indicative of the demographics..., Sony and activision have been pushing destiny since Feb Last year, The Alpha was exclusive to PS4, the beta came to PS3 and Ps4 first, the PS4 bundle is already available and the exclusive content is available for a year, then ofcourse there's the fact that PS4 has double the market penetration of the xbox one and consumer mindshare.

This survey may not be the best indicator of the purchase intent. But Activision confirmed as much at Gamescon that the largest portion of Destny's preorders are coming from PS4 layers with XBO and PS3/Xb360 taking up the latter.

It'll sell on XBO but not nearly as much as its PS4 counterpart.

Look at the availability of the Collectors and Limited editions at different retailers for different versions. The PS4 versions of both are COMPLETELY sold out everywhere (at least in the US). Hell, they were sold out on Amazon MONTHS ago.

So, judging by the one-side pre-orders I'm not surprised by this "survey" even if it's not the most unbiased survey that it could be.

Also given the the PS4 is around 2-1 versus the XBO on install-base, this plays as a major factor to more PS4 sales over XBO. Who knows how PS3/360 will look after the first week, but you can be guaranteed the PS4 will beat the XBO sales after the first week.

The timed exclusive content is also playing toward more PS3/PS4 sales, because lets face it...people can be impatient and don't want to wait the 6-12 months before said content becomes available on the 360/XBO.

Also, don't get me started on the "Buy previous-gen get next-gen free" last minute offer Bungie created also influencing sales. [again hopefully people complain enough that this becomes full on cross-buy BOTH directions, at least for the digital versions and/or collectors/limited/guardian versions]

I already own 2 PS4s for different rooms in the house and still preordered the Glacier White PS4 for the bedroom. It's looks great. Just as I already owned all of the previous Sony Headsets including the latest Gold version, I still picked up the White Gold headset. That white just goes better with certain layouts and is sleek as hell.

It depends on what your trying to measure. Attach rate is more appropriate if your trying to gauge platform specific interested in the game.

Overall unit sales alone doesn't tell you much, especially since one console has a much larger installed base than the other. You'd naturally expect the more popular console to sell more software.

If your trying to figure out the effects of co-marketing, then you need to consider both the overall unit sales and the attach rate.

Me and most of my friends from work got both consoles (sweet part of the job) and yet we're getting destiny on XO mainly because of xbox live and controller. Well first thing is that the article's title clearly mentions that this is a survey, which means the amount of people who contributed has no limit. Majority of people voted for PS4, now it doesn't matter if they have both the consoles or not, what matters is that PS4 copies of destiny will sell more.

Of course this survey was done on minute level and only near to 1k people contributed, but I'm sure the amount is still much more greater than people who come in the circle of "Me and most of my friends."

I guess you haven't seen beta comparisons, the game is equally optimized for both the consoles, but still, PS4 version is better than the Xbox One version in many cases.

Last generation, new big IPs did not go to PS2 and the OGXbox, since hardware was not even remotely close to what the 360 and PS3 offered.

@CryofSilence I disagree. The similarities to Halo are not indicative of the multiplayer modes. PvP in Halo is quite different from what players are getting in Destiny.

I don't think the multiplayer will hold up very long, especially when we got the amount of games coming in Oct and Nov that are going to pull players away.

It's not like there are only a few AAA titles coming in the next couple months. We're talking like 2 AAA titles a week starting later this month and ending in late November. No way does the Destiny fanbase stay strong enough.

What Destiny is doing pales in comparison to Star Citizen, No Man Sky, The Division and many other games that will I assure you capitalize on many things Destiny is leaving on the table.

I'm pretty sure many Destiny fans in their minds dream of space flight instead of a loading screen.

A real economy, instead of a single damn shop that only exist in one area on earth.

They want a wilderness like Fallout, with NPC's telling stories of survival across a large open world, not those small, dead levels with nothing but brain dead enemies always in the same spots.

Sorry but if you like Destiny, you likely know of its flaws as do I. I'm buying the game DAY 1 and I still know of its flaws and will play it for what it is ,but I will also leave it in a heart beat to play what I originally wanted it to be.

In many ways it looks like they've taken elements from other great fun games like UT2004, Tribes 2, ETQW etc.
The main key element missing really is user created map content but that seems to be acceptable these days.

They're even on exclusives so far though obviously PS4 will have the lead just like PS3 before it because they have the same studios and MS ported a lot of late 360 games to One while Sony kept releasing on PS3 and STILL managed to match MS exclusive for exclusive. So far WiiU has them both beat but that's with an extra year.

Online service is the same unless you count in free games which gives PS4 the edge since it offers more and more quality ones.

Controllers have gotten similar fantastic feedback so a draw there. A man prefers symmetrical (and Xbox is the oddball out of the 3 with their weird sticks not being symmetrical unlike WiiU and PS4), but a man won't let his personal preference play into this and give it a draw.

More frequent updates does not mean better. Sony's sharing and social aspects have been better since day one and they are about to release a bigger update with 2.0 because they were criticized for releasing them too frequently on PS3. All updates for every company are based on consumer feedback or just basic need (stability).

EA access is nice for a very small niche group. A man wonders why PSNow is so criticized when they haven't revealed their subscription price yet.

PS4 obviously has the advantage in power which leads to bigger worlds, better and more stable framerate (don't need a dev for that it just happens naturally as the system isn't as stressed) and yes in many cases better resolution. It also allows their exclusives to do more (see Infamous)

So all in all a man prefers PS4 due to it being even or better in almost everything he cares about (and obviously better at what most people care about judging on sales). But a man doesn't get why all of you are picking out PS4 from his comment. A man mentioned WiiU why isn't anyone hating on that part? Because it makes PSN the best place to play the game for this gen.

More players = better/faster matchmaking from launch and for longer into the future. It also might support that the extra PS4 exclusive content is having an impact on gamers' choice of where to play - which is at very least interesting.

This is a game that will be supported by Bungie for a long time into the future (as they claim) and expansions or sequels may well link with save data, etc. If you invest time with your clans and characters and then swap platforms down the line, you lose everything, so IMO it's important to choose wisely from the start with a game like Destiny.

On paper that's a perfectly reasoned argument. I own both consoles and will be buying XB1, despite this being the unpopular opinion.

The reality is Destiny is played online and XBL has been consistently better for me than PSN. I also prefer the controller. Those 2 reasons alone make the XB1 version a better purchase and there's hardly going to be a shortage of players on either platform. And the extra content is timed and hardly game changing.

Thr survey didnt surprise me...first, XB1 gamers will be split between 3 online FPS games from Titanfall, Destiny, Halo MCC while PS4 owners have been starving for a true AAA FPS for some time now and Destiny is their only option this year. Not hard to figure out.

First, when is the last time we saw an exclusive AAA release for XB1? I think it's been months now. Wait, yes, it's been MONTHS.

Second, Titanfall? That game is over. Sorry but you know it's true. I played it for a bit and enjoyed it. But it has no staying power whatsoever.

Third, sales numbers and exclusive marketing are the reason why this survey shouldn't surprise you. The PS4 is outselling the XB1 globally by a 2:1 margin and also had the benefit of marketing this game *almost* as if it was exclusive.

I'm not sure why people are surprised. 1) The ps4 version is being marketed heavily. The xb1 version isn't being marketed at all. 2) there are more ps4 users than xb1 users.

I'll even go as far to say that the even the attach rate will be significantly higher on ps4 as I don't think xb1 users will be as interested. Personally, I won't be buying an FPS until MCC comes out. I won't be getting Destiny, because I know I won't have the time to play it the way is meant to be played.

It is simply meant to be played. You can go solo no problem and there are obviously parts where you'll have to party up but it's no biggie. If you pass on this game you'll really be missing out on something great.

Of course it's meant to be played, but there's a huge community proponent to it, and a time investment required to progress. The friend's I would play with will quickly surpass me in rank, and when halo comes out, I'd be done with Destiny altogether. It wouldn't be a good investment for me to spend $60 on an online rpg game that I know I'd never play through. And from my experience with the beta, playing through alone seems like it would be boring.

It just isn't the game for me, and the timing is bad...

Less than 1,000 people participated in the survey. 1,000 people is not indicative of the US or event he world population. That survey is indicative of the people on reddit who clicked on the survey, and only them.
How many people clicked "I won't be purchasing Destiny at all", "I'm waiting for a PC version", how many people read the survey but didn't answer. How many people saw the link but didn't click on it? How many people were on reddit from the time you posted the survey to the time you took it down or posted your results?

With that said, I think the survey isn't far off from being correct. Twice as many PS4s so the possibility for twice the number of Destiny sales. It seems so obvious. But Xbox has always been associated with FPS more xbox owners may pick up Destiny than PS4 owners. If 80% of all Xbox One owners buy Destiny and 50% of all PS4 owners buy Destiny, their respective communities will be relatively the same size.

I will be picking up Destiny for both current gen consoles, so my purchase will have zero effect on these sales numbers.

It's the marketing. Every advert i see for destiny is for the ps4 version. Its as though the xbox versions dont exist. Its probably part of the reason why the ps4 version is massively outselling the x1 version.

And what is "asinine to the extreme" about my comment? Educated gamers know about Microsoft's initial policies that were not consumer friendly and they know about the power deficit of the XB1. They probably also know how great PS Plus is and the failure rate for the 360. People who don't get on videogame websites are far more likely to not know any of that and are more likely to purchase a XB1 simply because they had a 360. I have a PS4, Wii U, and a XB1, but the XB1 was the only one I felt guilty and dirty purchasing.

I don't think it is a mystery what console is going to have better software sales. The PS4 has outsold the X1 by 5 million or more units. Last gen when PS3 the 360 version of any game it was different because both systems were so close in sales, this gen PS4 is ahead by a big margin so this results have logical sense and it shouldn't be news to gamer's anymore.

I for one don't buy online only games on any system due the fact that if u lose internet u own a brick and these games are not cheap. When the servers are down or no longer up and running the game becomes just a memory. Offline gaming should be always be included. I can still play all my Sega games and the family fun is still just big today. When offline games disappear it will be a sad day for video games.

I really want to ban this game from my upcoming "to buy" list, as I've already been burned by SEVERAL of these ONLINE ONLY titles on PS3 & 360. These developers need to be sent a message about these throwaway online console games... Either make the damn things 1/4 the price of normal full price titles, or even better, add full, quality, lengthy campaigns, or at least, bots & enemy AI to game modes such as dm, tdm, ctf, etc, etc, & make these titles playable after servers are cut, so as my expensive game/s I forked out good money for, DON'T end up coasters & Frisbees, like Socom: Confrontation, Socom: SF's, MAG, & many others... I mean, I was devastated when I recently fired up Resistance 2 for some online shenanigens, only for it NOT to work & give a "disconnected from server", type cryptic message.... I then fired up my copy of R3 to see WTF was going on, & I got the same result... I must admit, I was more than a little peeved & highly disappointed,....BUT, I was able to at least, throw the exceptionally engrossingly engaging single player campaign on.....

It is very scary, as this is not what console gaming is about, the very spirit of console gaming is being attacked with these kinds of pc-centric handicaps are bestowed upon a community of gaming, that has always prided itself on, & been THE stalwart platform for the single player experience, that's greatest games, ALWAYS allowed the ability to be played at there highest potential many, many, years after the platform it was made for, has reached it's expiration date.

Unfortunately us gamers will ONCE AGAIN, fail to unite, & use our brains & wallets to punish these publishers & developers for basically punishing us.... I mean, I REALLY loved the Destiny beta, & I want the game, as it plays so nice & is a high quality game... But, Bungie NEEDS to give us something in regards to future content, that will give us the ability to play the game in some capacity, years from now, when we are playing Ultra Ultra SF6 Hyper Super Duper Killer Version 5.0, on our PS5's & XBTwo's.

I think this has less to do with the exclusivity deal and is more indicative of just how things are this console gen, the masses have pretty much unanimously chose PS4 this gen as the better console.
