The way I see it, is that it's like football

Now, now hear me out

Football is a sport, you have male football and even women's football but if we could associate football to one gender it would be males, is that sexist? No, because that's how it is, if you actually look into it you'll see that many woman football matches going on these days but we never see it because it's not really the norm, people are interested more in male football because to them that's what football is, a man's sport, it's been like that since...well forever really.

It's the same with gaming, there are girl gamers, women who play on games but at the end of the day it's a man's hobby, always was and always has been. Doesn't mean woman aren't allowed, and have never played games in the 80s/90s when video games were getting more focus, it's just getting the point across that SOME women come into gaming and want all these things changed which male gamers don't care about, and it's not like male gamers don't care about them because they are sexist or selfish, it's just because they came into this hobby because that's what it was like at the time. I mean look at it this way why get into a hobby which you know what to expect. You want equality? Well stop getting offended and take name calling and attacks just like men do all the time off each other, yeah that's right it doesn't just happen to you it happens to everyone.

I don't go online much in multiplayer matches but if I took offence to all the things that I've had thrown at me I would of probably had a nervous break down by now. In the end I just simply mute it and gladly play on my games instead of trying to change something which will never be changed.

It's silly when much this satire is more balanced than half of the stuff I've seen written for real on the topic.

its a double standard. People sling sh*t at each other all the time but if its a girl its a threat and they get afraid to get out of their house.

This section *is* satire though. The writer thinks that threatening comments online should not just be accepted as the norm and people should not have to just get used to it. This message is far more congruent with the rest of the article.
When he says "Even dudes receive harsh remarks" then goes on to give an example of this as his wife being threatened, the writer is saying they think men don't receive the same type of criticism. Whether you agree or not is up to you but I believe that's what the writer is trying to get across.

I agree that threatening comments should not be the status quo and should be spoken up against but there is also a flip-side to the coin in that people should not over-exaggerate threats especially not for personal gain.
Feminists must realise that they are incredibly easy to troll due to the reaction they give from both genuine and inflammatory comments. They have overtaken athiests as troll targets. I think this fact means a lot of the threats can be dismissed due to trolling, but you still have to be careful of the more intimate, repeated threats that involve personal information - which is a criminal offence.

I'm getting agrees because people think I *agree* with the satire, which I don't, at all. It's a completely ridiculous angle to take. I should have been more clear.

The whole "oh, its always like this so there's no point trying to improve things" argument makes no freaking sense at all. It's like. Why bother fighting crime, you'll never stop 100% of it. "Why stop people from being assholes when there's always going to be more assholes".. "Why care about the environment at all, one day it'll all be fubar anyway!" Etc.

I was trying to say the *satire* was spot on. That passage is exactly what many here have been saying in all seriousness and agree with, and it's completely crazy IMO.
