Production director Jonty Barnes says platform holders like Microsoft and Sony are "magnifying" the importance of graphical benchmarks.

i except at least 1080p in 2014 the hell is wrong with these consoles, struggling to get to full HD and 4K is on its arrival on PC

ShugaCane3533d ago (Edited 3533d ago )

Why giving so much importance on resolutions ? Gameplay is the core of every game. It should always be the main focus (over resolution I mean. Story, writing, etc. are extremely important too). Plus, consoles are much cheaper than high end PCs which are, by the way, upgraded a lot more frequently. I don't see how the comparison is relevant.

Hellsvacancy3533d ago (Edited 3533d ago )

So if gameplay is all that matters why are games even trying to reach 720p? may as well go with 420p or even 240p, hell why don't I just get my oldskool sdtv out, i'll game on that instead

Come on man we don't live in 2006 anymore, it's time we had GOOD graphics as well as good gameplay

Axios23533d ago

That's CRAZY talk!

Everyone at N4G knows ppl play resolution and not games, at least this gen, last gen, not so much.

ShugaCane3533d ago

@Hellsvacancy

You're talking as if we didn't have good graphics right now. We do.

mikeslemonade3533d ago

I can tell Destiny meant this because their games looks subpar compared to most current gen games.

darx3533d ago

@Hells

Then It looks like you need to purchase a PC

solar3533d ago

if gameplay is all that is important, then why do PS4 extremists constantly beat up the X1 if a multiplat has lower rez? you mates need to make up your damn minds!

Hellsvacancy3533d ago (Edited 3533d ago )

^^^^

It's a case of "what goes around comes around"

Axios............. http://n4g.com/news/525541/...

Like I said "what goes around comes around"

sonarus3532d ago (Edited 3532d ago )

Gameplay is king no doubt. However the primary point of upgrading from ps3 to ps4 is not for better gameplay but better graphics. If you don't care about graphics stick to your last gen console and stfu

As far as this gen is concerned games are still playing the same they just look better. Telling yourself you don't care about graphics and owning a next gen console is like the most hypocritical statement ever. Unless off course you own an xbox1 and you bought it primarily for Kinnect shenanigans and tv integration lol

Boody-Bandit3532d ago (Edited 3532d ago )

@solar

"then why do PS4 extremists constantly beat up the X1 if a multiplat has lower rez?"

You mean like how 360 fans did the exact same thing to the PS3 when comparing multiplat titles last generation? At least this generation the differences are more substantial than blades of grass or having to freeze frame and magnify that frame to show the differences. Yet there were 10x more comparison articles last gen comparing such miniscule differences that it took magnification just to show those ever so slight discrepancies to claim victory.

On topic:
Sorry Bungie but this is a cross platform title that's average looking at best when it comes to current gen graphics. Of course you're going to say this especially considering there is a 1/2 billion dollars invested into this new series of yours.

Graphics have always mattered. At least until this generation started. Why is that? /s

I can remember as far back as Colecovision gamers talking about graphics. The divide went into full gear during the 16 bit era with the SNES and Sega Genesis. Which mostly involved teens and young adults arguing over which console had the better graphics and sound. We are talking 16 bit sprite based games. It's only amplified today because of the internet and social media. BUT it almost always existed and has been debated across nearly all generations.

These articles need to go away unless the PS4, X1 and Wii U are going to be the last consoles ever made. I mean why upgrade? Why ever purchase new graphics cards for PC gamers? It's about the gameplay after all. Let's do away with those pesky 4k displays and tell tech companies stop the train, we have finally reached the peak, let's get off here.

These articles are beyond redundant and wreak of hypocrisy and desperation. Graphics don't matter yet go to N4G mains page and you will see an article titled "Impressive visuals in ‘The Witcher 3′ shows the graphical evolution of the Witcher series." Which is fitting when you consider The Witcher is not only visually stunning but it's a great RPG as well. See you can have it all in one package and I can break out a list that would go on and on proving it. So again, why is this being debated this generation?

I really wish certain segments of the industry and media would make up it's damn mind. SMDH

Just more "it doesn't matter until it does"

edit: BTW. Lens of Truth! Where did you guys go? It seems you packed up and walked away as soon as this generation started. Question answered as to what they were about to begin with.

Patrick_pk443532d ago

Why do you allow developers to give less than the standard? This is a "next-gen" console, so 1080p 60fps should be hit for every console game. Do you actually like have an inferior product, because I sure don't.

Smooth gameplay and from a technical standpoint framerate are more important to the experience than the resolution IMO.

sonarus3532d ago

Yea you can argue which is more important. I won't say 1080p over garbage frame rate is better. But you know what last of us remastered looked great in 1080p and even better in 1080p 60fps. I want to get most bang for my buck push the damn console to do all it can. Don't try to sell me graphics don't matter cus that's hot steaming smelly crap

C-H-E-F3533d ago

If Gameplay matters then Destiny will be a borefest... the only thing good about this game is the fact that it looks gorgeous.

sonarus3532d ago

It actually doesn't even look that good. I like it almost exclusively for the strong coop integration

Shadonic3532d ago

already has a better story and gameplay than Shadowfall which is one of the games that went and put graphics first and foremost.

Spinal3532d ago

Dafuq u talkin bout? Destiny gameplay is the most fun I've had on the ps4 so far this new gen.

And yes it does look gorgeous but clearly they focused on the right thing. Gameplay and it paid off cause nearly everyone that played beta loved it.

user56695103533d ago

forget this res talk im just happy theyre working on a new ip and not another halo game. same with Insomniac. i hope they games do well and become successful good luck. and to all devs on every platform making new ip.

getting tired of these now risk rehashes. gaming is becoming boring with them. im glad we have indie games because i would have quit gaming a year or two ago.

MEsoJD3533d ago

They say gameplay over graphics yet the game isn't even running at 60 fps...

Lennoxb633532d ago (Edited 3532d ago )

Gameplay AND graphics. Resolution isn't that important. Some people are confused about resolution and graphics. There are people who are uneducated on the subject. Thinking that a HIGHER resolution results in BETTER graphics. Not the case. And I hear this repeated all the time over the internet about resolution being connected to graphics. It no more than the clarity of your screen.

Shadonic3532d ago

I'm expecting 1080p 60fps to hit a bit later on, I'm going mostly off of what a youtuber says about Destiny certainly being able to reach it but most likely holding back due to last gen still being prevalent.

Of course Gameplay always comes first but to see the goal of 1080p 60 fps cut back upon so heavily early on is kinda disheartening considering it was a big talking point besides the overall improvements in what could be done in terms of basic effects and stuff.

Either way its still all on the Gameplay for me I wouldn't care if destiny was 4k 120 fps or anything If it hadn't grabbed me with the story and the gameplay and mechanics linking it all together I wouldn't of been pre-ordering it.

cellfluid3532d ago

Especially when a game known as marvel Alliance was the 1st 1080p 60fps game on ps3.(10 years ago) How is it t@ ps3 can do it but these so called next Gen systems are struggling. Something isn't right!!!

Sharingan_no_Kakashi3532d ago

It's not the consoles it's the devs. Most devs would gladly sacrifice a little resolution if it means adding more detail or accents to the environment.

Back-to-Back3532d ago

If 1080p doesnt matter we all should have kept our ps3/360s.

Gameplay over resolution any day. If the game has drops at 1080p then lower the resolution. I'd hate for a game to be 1080p and take a hit to the frame rate just to make a bold statement saying "Oh look my game is 1080p."

TheKingWilliamV3533d ago (Edited 3533d ago )

I used to believe that 1080p wasn't a factor, that was until I played Destiny on both the Xbox One and the PS4. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that thier is a clear difference. The Xbox One version did not look as vibrate, refined, detailed or as beautiful as the PS4 version. The Xbox One version of Destiny must obtain 1080p

kevnb3533d ago

I hate these arguments, gameplay is important so graphics don't matter?

mhunterjr3533d ago (Edited 3533d ago )

I don't think anyone is saying graphics don't matter. They are saying that too much emphasis is being placed on graphical benchmarks instead of the overall quality if the experience.

There is much more to graphics than resolution and frame rate.

Bungie Replaces Marathon Director Amid Leadership Shakeup, Fears of Layoffs

Amid ongoing anxiety within Bungie following layoffs last year, the studio is now preparing for another shakeup, this time on Marathon.

Kaii36d ago

Layoffs should be hitting the incompetent management at this point.

Profchaos35d ago

Talk about mismanaged Bungie is a studio of tremendous potential and have made some of the greatest shooters to date. Sony pushed them to just make another Destiny style game and consult on other studios live service games and are now getting thrown under a bus as the pivot away from predominantly gaas games is unfolding.

I'd love to see a world where Bungie can focus on telling great sci fi stories again away from a live service dungeon but we all know that's a pipe dream

Rynxie35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Are you serious? Do you just talk out of your arse naturally, or did it take years of being a POS?

Profchaos35d ago

You normally get so offended by internet comments or did it take years of being soft

purple10135d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Yes I see your point mate, someone clearly didn’t read the article.

Specifically the bit:

“Notably, multiple sources at the time and since have shared that Sony has largely left the studio to sort out its own troubles and was not responsible for the layoffs, with CEO Pete Parsons taking responsibility.“

He’s just spouting nonsense

Huey_My_D_Long35d ago

lol what so fucking hilarious is that you called him out so bad he projected him being offended onto you.

Its been well documented that Bungie's management has been more responsible for their shortfalls, even mentioned in said article that we are commenting on.

Its ok, just admit you didn't read the article.

MIDGETonSTILTS1735d ago

Arrowhead Studios will be Sony’s GaaS consult now.

Gameseeker_Frampt35d ago

I like how for some, it is never Bungie's fault. Microsoft, Activision, and now Sony - it is everyone else who is pushing Bungie to make all these bad decisions.

-Foxtrot35d ago

Thrown under the bus?

Are you joking? This is all Bungie, we all thought it was 100% Activision but it's clear the higher ups at Bungie don't have a clue how to run the studio and are more bothered about saving their own skin and the money that they rake in.

Sony gave them an extra $1.2 Billion to make sure that employees didn't leave and they didn't have to cut anyones jobs. Where did that money go because Bungie still cut peoples jobs and I bet you the higher management still kept a hold of their big fact paychecks and bonuses.

Sony invested poorly in this and the best thing they can do now is throw the old Bungie management out and take hold of the studio fully.

MIDGETonSTILTS1735d ago

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Somebody at Bungie is the golden goose making great shooting mechanics, and the rest need to justify their paychecks.

This studio has had three owners and its never worked well with any of them....Management has issues

ChasterMies35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Worked very well for Microsoft. Microsoft’s mistake was letting Bungie go.

Fearmonkey34d ago

it worked so well with MS that they so wanted to be away from them they bought the company back. Only to do it again with activision-blizzard, and then sold to Sony...Sony shouldn't have bought them...Bungie hasnt been the same for a long time..

As someone who bought every story DLC for DESTINY 2 but not every season. the first thing I would do as game director is , if anybody pre-orders The ?Final Shape , they will be able to play all older DLC and seasons with purchase of FINAL SHAPE. . I think that would bring back a lot of DESTINY 2 plsyers who have not experienced the seasons a chance to play season activities before Final Shape comes out.

DickyD122683d ago

I agree but I was just able to get all dlcs for 50 on steam. (Have it on PlayStation but don't always have access to the TV)
