That's a good video on internet fame in general, but the consclusions about Phil Fish just being naive to fame or not ever activelly pushing for it are flawed. Just because Phil Fish doesn't have an agent, PR or whatever, doesn't me can't take advantage of the internet system of money for clicks and make the connections by himself. If anything, his case coupled with the examples of "accidental internet fame" only proves anyone can do it if it happens to them, it's possible to extend your 15 minutes of (negative) fame on a subculture as long as you know who to reach with that and more so, it can be highly profitable.

On the image, I was already guessing that myself. Since "Quinnspiracy" (lol) started, every hacking and persecution clain from herself or any of her "Indie Mafia" (seriously, who comes up with those terms?) friends had either been proved to be either factored or non-organized (i.e. internet people loves to hate on each and anyone who stands out).

The question that should really be asked is why are they still doing that? Are they just that dumb? Do they thing we're that dumb? Or is it just to further derail from the concerns with gaming media corruption and the whole censoring the subjects that was initially going on?

And yeah, I know I sound like a conspiracy nut and no I don't like it. I'm a freaking scientist, I don't like to guess gossip and I want to kick myself in the nuts right now, still I can't get past that impression of a (not so) big (lame) cover up is going on. Like if they are desperatelly trying to hide that gaming media and many of those gaming personalities are just useless people striving at catching the attention for the wrong reasons (as if that train had not left eons ago).

As far as I remember, he's always been a jerk. Got a negative vibe from him the moment I watched that indie film years ago.

Actually, there's a legitimate amount of proof and information that all this doxxing and "hacking" was spoofed by Zoe and now Phil.

Now, a bit of this info here is off, as Cloudflare is CDN, sort of a middle-man between the hosting service and the public, but a lot of it stays relevant. Basically this states that there is an impossibility for these things to have happened. Cloudflare would require a special 2 step authentication to be even able to log in from a different computer (which if you're familiar with these kinds of authentication, tend to send the authentication code to your phone, email, etc., so they would have needed access to these). And all this was happening while Phil was posting Twitter updates. Then while that was happening, there was a 15 second time gap where they were able to gather, compress, and upload 1.5GB of info right as the website was hacked. The image points out several other huge gaps of logic with this claim.

And as for Zoe, there's a tremendous amount of info about her faking the doxxing. There's been enough proof that has continuously been uncovered about this entire thing showing that she can't make a truthful statement in any form. If you haven't seen the "Quinnspiracy: The Five Guys Saga" video in its entirety, or you haven't seen the imgur that essentially proves she doxxed her own info, here are links to them both.

Looking at it realistically, why would anyone buy the Fez IP after all the bad press Fish has given himself? Sure the IP can sell some on name alone, but realistically the game isn't so amazingly different that it couldn't be done with another IP, and not carry the IP cost and baggage that Fez now has.

Fish is part of an small inner circle of indie devs who think their contributions to the indie scene are far more important than they are. They haven't really earned the right to be pricks, yet think they're God's gift to gaming. They're giving hard working indie devs, some of which have better and more work done than them, a bad name.

Fez 2 would likely sell. It probably won't get a lot of positive press however. The truth is is that most gamers have no clue about what's going on with this whole situation, and a few months or a year from now when this game eventually gets announced or released, most people that do know about it will have forgotten.

If I were him though, and were looking to release another game, he should lighten up a bit, apologize to the community he's offended repeatedly, and try to make amends. Coming clean on some of the drivel that's he's helped propagate would be a nice thing as well. He could easily make himself look a lot better by showing some humility and remorse.

There were a lot of people who loved Fez, and wondered when a sequel would come out. Fish decided to focus on the rather loud minority that behaved the way you described though.

That's the problem with success. You have two choices. Focus on the people who appreciate your work and are fans, or you focus on those that just want to troll you and lump your fans into that same group.

Fish has said a lot of inflammatory things, treated his fans like crap, blamed gamers left and right for his short-comings, and gotten involved in things that he should have distanced himself from if he couldn't maintain a professional attitude about it.

The man obviously knows what social media is. His lack of ability to comprehend how it works or how to use it to his advantage is what is causing him problems. His inability to realize that not everyone is out to get him is only exacerbating the problem, and his completely childish attitude towards the industry and it's consumers only turned large groups of gamers against him.

The worst part is is that it seems that for all his tantrums through the years, he expects people to sympathize with his plight, when in reality it just makes him look like an entitled brat who thinks they deserve more respect than they've earned...oddly enough the same thing you seem to believe of gamers.

I'd consider myself an indie dev, despite working on contract with some studios here and there. And I agree completely. This guy takes so much attention away from all the great new and old indie devs out there who work a massive number of hours, try their hardest to produce an extraordinary game, and more often than not have to do all the marketing themselves to even get their game noticed.

So many great indie devs out there that have many gamers just saying "It's just an indie" game. And guys like this don't help. Him, and a few others like him, get all the attention, which other indie devs just quietly produce games who's success can mean the life or death of their studio. This guy sits on his millions of dollars off one game and has the nerve to blame gamers for his problems.

I never had a problem with indie devs that have something to say about what's going on in the industry. I believe their insight is just as good as any other person in the industry, or forum commenter for that matter, but to me, at least those people are trying to do something about the state of the industry by producing something they feel is worthwhile to it.

Fish hasn't done that. He produced a great game. Let the success go to his head, and then decided to railroad his fans and the industry by accusing them of everything under the sun and treating them like complete trash. This inner circle of the indie-elite just needs to die out, because their ego doesn't match the portfolio.

I can think of many controversial "real" developers out there who often make inflammatory remarks. But when you read what they have to say, there is always some underlying reason and truth behind it. It comes from a position of understanding, and not of assumption. At the same time, any "real" developer that said controversial stuff probably has a decent portfolio behind their name, otherwise people wouldn't even know who they are, or care one lick about what they say. Why some of these indie devs get attention without having the same credentials is beyond me.

For instance

A guy who obviously has some mental handicap due to sickness/injury comes into a store. He goes on to be belligerent towards others. Would you, the manager, bite your tongue and say "no problem", or would you ask him to leave?

There is a greater order that needs to be maintained. There are those that would lash out and hurt the guy mentioned above, and there are those that would understand it. It's not the responsibility of everyone to just accept it.

I personally believe the guy has some deep seeded emotional issues that he should get help for. But I also don't know him. Whatever those issues may be I can't even fathom because I don't know him.

OTOH, he also put himself into the public spot light. His need for attention is not helping him. If the truth were to come out about why he acts the way he does, some people may understand it better, but that doesn't mean they have to put up with the abuse, as we don't have that kind of relationship with him.

Sadly, the moment someone puts themselves into the public spotlight...which admittedly he doesn't try to avoid...they are open to scrutiny regardless of what personal problems they may have either mentally or physically.

He has a choice. He is capable of making choices. Him quitting twitter is a choice. Him not coming back to twitter or the industry is a choice on his part. Him making another game is a choice on his part. When he makes a choice, he has to live with whatever consequence that comes his way regardless of his mental condition. I say this because I don't believe the man is mentally incapable of knowing right from wrong, nor is he mentally incapable of making choices on his own. In the end, he has the choice not to let the negative effect him so drastically that it causes people to hate him.

If some impairment can't get him past those consequences, then he's not making the right choice, as in this day and age, someone with his resources has the means to get help, whether psychological or pharmacological.

I used to be somewhat like him, although never to such an extreme. Blame others for my problems, and redirect my anger back on others over my own short-comings. I came to realize I was doing this, and I got help for it. I choose to live a happier better life. It was a long road lasting several years during a huge transitional period in my life, and one person alone helped me see the world and myself in a very different way. Since then, my life has improved a thousand times over, and I can say I am pursuing things that I never thought possible. I made a choice. I stuck by it. And I don't blame others for my short-comings. I am happy. Phil has this ability too, but he has to be the one to decide to do this for himself.

We don't have to explore it, because it is all on him, and is always going to be a personal thing for him. No matter how many people may have told me of my short-comings, it wasn't until I realized it myself and made a conscious decision to improve my life that I did so. For most of the time I was oblivious to how I acted.

However, the more simple answer may be true. He's just a sociopath who really believes he's greater and more important than he is, and his success has fed his ego to the point of narcissism. He wasn't always an ass. He used to be rather respectful.

Anyhow, until this topic happens to be explored, I don't really wish to speculate on what mental or physical conditions may cause his behavior. If he wants to make it public then I will discuss it. I don't think it would benefit him if he has problems such as this for others to speculate on them, as the gaming press, and many of it's followers, have shown that they can't handle these kinds of things with the delicacy that they deserve. Such actions may only push him further away from the help he may need.

I also believe that when/if he decides to get help, he should avoid making it public until he overcomes whatever it is that's holding him back. The reason for this is that when trying to change one's life, you have to avoid the negative, and focus on yourself. I shut myself away for a while personally to really delve into what it was that was making me unhappy. And everything that was making me unhappy was all on me. I let some people close to me know what was going on, and they supported me 100%. But we are probably both realistic enough to know that the internet at large isn't likely to give him that support, and it would be counter-productive for him to try and get support from the community over him getting help. I know for sure there are people I hurt in my life that would have treated me like shit had I told them I was trying to change, because I treated them like shit. Once I got past that stuff in my life, I then worked on repairing those relationships, and now all those that I cared about that would have not cared back then, can all say that I am a changed person, and I count them as good friends. If Fish decides to get help, then he should follow a similar course, because he has a tendency to focus on the negative, and that negative will always try to hold him back.

I'm not ever sure where to start with this. In recent history, Phil is the only dev that I can think of that has come out and ripped on video game history, inspirations, his audience, the industry, the internet, and then in turn has mentioned the Money he made. Granted, he released a great game. But according to the indie movie phil said he would kill himself if the game didnt release....it did....and went onto huge success. Even after all of his rants and bullshit and shitting on the people that loved his product he continued to bitch and bitch and bitch.

I don't know the dude, but something doesn't seem right. I can only speak for myself, but I had chemical dependency issues, and when I was in those moments I became hyper sensitive to any criticism, even criticism of my own and would lash out on social media. Luckily I wasn't somewhat of a celebrity.
