Are There Too Many PS3 Ports for PS4? - Podcast Beyond

IGN - In a way, porting games from last generation consoles is charging consumers for backwards compatibility.

Starting to be. Let's hope it stops soon. What is PS Now for then if they keep giving us old games we already own?

"What is PS Now for then"

PlayStation Now wasn't created to just bring PlayStation 3 titles to the PlayStation 4, but to allow multiple devices the ability to play PlayStation titles without the need of said console. So while porting PS3 titles to the 4 theoretically hurts Now on the PlayStation 4, it has absolutely no Impact on the features functionality on Bravia TVs, PlayStation TV, PS Vita and whatever other devices they port Now to.

You have understood it. I don't understand why people misunderstand this. PS Now isn't really for us gamers who buy a PS4 and who already have a PS3 (or wouldn't mind buying one). PS Now is for those people who don't want to pay a fortune (console are not cheap) for a thing that plays games. Smart TVs and on demand boxes are becoming very popular. Playstation Now is an avenue to reach out to those people and hopefully bring them across but if not get them to pay for games under the playstation brand.

In tern it helps other failing products like the Vita but the main focus of Playstation Now isn't us. We are being Beta tested because we are the only ones who are likely to try something new in a short space of time. Once the beta is done it will be rolled out to other platforms hopefully learned from mistakes we bring up.

What's the problem, exactly? Don't want them, don't buy them. It's giving consumers who didn't own a PS3 last gen the opportunity to play some of the best PS3 exclusives on PS4 at higher frame rate and higher resolution. The Last of Us even uses new character models.

DualWielding3536d ago

to be fair the Last of Us is the only one they actually sold, all the small downloadable titles were cross-buy so people who bought them on PS3 got a free upgrade... I don't see why would anyone complain about a free upgrade

SamPao3536d ago

yeah... especially since I did not buy Journey nor Flower. let me enjoy these games on PS4 bastards...!!

dumahim3536d ago

Tomb Raider, GTA V, probably others I can't think of right at the moment.

incendy353536d ago

I don't think so, it is great for those that missed them, but they do need more original games. My PS4 gets very little use these days.

FullmetalRoyale3536d ago

Dat Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare doe.

lol I'm poking fun but I actually have been enjoying the game.

id say yes and no. new games would be a much better option, BUT most of these ported games are cross buy. the majority of people who were interested in it already bought it and can upgrade for free.
theres also the people who never owned a ps3 who might be interested in buying the definitive version.
for me personally, id rather see new games, but i can also see the reasons that devs would want to port them to new hardware.

I don't see an issue, titles like Journey are cross buy so your not really duping existing purchasers and your giving the opportunity for new PlayStation gamers to play some great games they never had the opportunity to.
Some of these games are unique to PlayStation and it's a great opportunity for Sony to show the diversity of games on their system to a new audience.

As long as we don't get pointless 3rd party remasters that were available on all formats then I think it's fine.

In the case of Uncharted, remastered versions would not be a bad idea. I'm sure there are many who now own a PS4 who have never played an Uncharted game and would love the opportunity to play the three previous titles so they get the chance to experience them before the release of the fourth. This may of course not happen as Naughty Dog are flat out on Uncharted 4.
