Twitter Reacts... Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity "a big middle finger" to fans

Microsoft announced a number of things and covered plenty of games in their Gamescom Media Briefing this year, but by far the biggest news of all, and pretty much all anyone is talking about right now, is the revelation that Rise of the Tomb Raider will release next winter, exclusive to the Xbox One.
And then the internet went mad.

Reminds me a lot of Bayonetta 2

Neonridr3543d ago

how so? Bayonetta 2 wouldn't have existed had Nintendo not funded the development of the game.

Crystal Dynamics could have easily made this game for every platform and still made money. MS paid them to either make it for the Xbox One only, or to at least hold off on the PS4 version by an arranged upon timeframe.

Not even close to being the same thing.

iamnsuperman3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

That is the big difference. Bayonetta wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for Nintendo. Also these developers released current gen version of the last gen Tomb Raider (it made more money for them) The difference in sales was huge (in favour of the PS4. It is a middle finger to those fans.

andydalum3543d ago

Destiny year long exclusive DLC says hello. . . It's not just xbox who's doing these things.

Baccra173543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Bayonetta 2 would have existed had they not half-assed the PS3 version of Bayonetta.

killer4fun533543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

@andy BIG difference between a DLC AND A FU**ing game but i am pretty sure its a time exclusive game

Melankolis3543d ago

That's the way MS doing business, rather than using money to develop more games, they buy exclusivity for the games that should be multiplatformed....that's not healthy for the industry...

Pain3543d ago

Its timed we wall know that ...but i'll show my support for the Dev's Crystal Dynamics buy Not buying this game when it finds its way to PS4 after its timed exclusivity contract has expired.

I unlike sheep gamers don't care about every time sink bandwagon fad of the month game and when crap like this happens or is pulled i move on with my life and wallet.

tehpees33543d ago

He is talking about the back lash. It reminds me of Bayonetta 2 as well.

choujij3543d ago

I genuinely believe this will do more harm than good for them. Not only does this make Xbox look more anti-competitive, but it's also going to hurt SE's reputation. This is the beginning of the back-lash. They want sales, not consumer back-lash.

XBLSkull3543d ago

I own both systems so I couldn't care less. If you care that much about tomb raider then you either bought the wrong system, or you need to go buy an x1. More likely at some point it'll be released for PlayStation, then you'll call it the definitive version, and shove it in x1 owners faces like you always do, so stop crying.

Neonridr3543d ago

@tehpees3 - well then I can totally understand the comment. Unfortunately, if that was mike's intentions, then they weren't very clear based on that message.

ScottyHoss3543d ago Show
trenso13543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

@andy i knew i would see a comment like yours DLC is not no where near as money hatting a whole game, a freaking game man DLC whoopty whop at least you can still play the game. Im not saying money hatting on either side is ok but when one is just DlC and the other is a whole game, there is no argument as to which is worse.

InTheZoneAC3543d ago

bayonetta will flop so bad on the wii u. You ever wonder why this everlasting development will never get a release?

they think a 3rd party game will do better on the wii u? and strictly being an exclusive it'll flop, then they'll port it over to the ps4/one and all the reviews will talk about how it looks like a last gen game at the full price. I know graphics don't matter, but for full price it is expected that every game be pushed to it's limits in every category...

Mr Pumblechook3543d ago

I love this quote from the article "The initial target of the petition is 100,000 signature, at the time of writing it has received 55 supporters."

:)

osamaq3543d ago

I think they said in the trailer "exclusive to xbox" and not xbox one

xbox= xbone and x360

so its cross generation game meh...

ion6663543d ago

Just wait,Theres gonna be a definitive ps4 edition later in the year. So your'e gonna make one the 1st tombraider and not give us the sequel and that makes sense.Thats like having china watch the avengers 2,and america can have part 1. Fuch yoo!! square enix?crystsal dynamics .I hope your games get pirated.

DarXyde3543d ago

@Andy

Why do Xbox fans always bring up Destiny and Bungie? I mean yeah, I guess things are different this time because they now have a relationship with Sony. At least it's only timed. PlayStation fans don't even have any games from Insomniac in the pipeline yet.

So who's getting the better end of all of this?

EZMickey3543d ago

well... it is worth pointing out that not so long ago Square Enix reported that Tomb Raider's sales fell way below their expectations (even though it was a great success) so it would stand to reason that Rise of the Tomb Raider may have seen a longer hiatus had it not been for a fat cheque to spur it on.

maniacmayhem3543d ago

@Neonridr

It is the same thing. Even when Platinum explained this to everyone that didn't stop the outrage and anger from fans.

There was even stories of fans threatening Platinum with harm because of this.

There is no reason why people are getting so bent out of shape about THIS game coming to the Xbox One. It's amazing how much focus everyone is on this.

Wizard_King3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Crap game.
-Cross gen gimping
-8 hour campaign
-Tack on MP
-Day one DLC
-Season pass's
-Paid for hats

Let MS keep this cancerous excuse for a game, shit game for a shitty console. Move on. All this is, is MS showing that 1st party titles are not their main concern, what is important to MS is buying up content that is already multiplatform. Where is a single excursive that makes you want a XB1, pro tip, there is none.

CrazedFiend3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Just sent Square an email to tell them I think they're doing a wonderful job.

mcstorm3543d ago

I really think yet again people are over reacting and to everyone who is saying it was on the PS 1st you are wrong it was on the Saturn 1st and then Sony had it ported the PSX.
On the flip side im looking forward to seeing more of this game.

Deadpool1013543d ago

As i've mentioned before, Sony did the exact same thing back in 1997. They bought the exclusive rights to Tomb Raider franchise even though the original was released on both PS1 and Sega Saturn.
It's okay to be annoyed but let's not pretend this is a new thing in the would of gaming. These sort of business practices have been around for years.

SasukeX163543d ago

Platinum was denied by both companies so Nintendo funded the project and saved Bayonetta. Tomb Raider is a third party game that been recently rebooted and was not selling the way Square Enix wanted. So they remaster it on all platforms and sold best on Playstation platforms. Microsoft throws a check at them to make it exclusively on the worst performing and worst selling console and they accept. #DatLogicDoe

cell9893543d ago

I have to agree with you on that one, great point. What I see here is MS answer to Uncharted 4, they have their Uncharted now, the things money can do

HugoDrax3543d ago

"Microsoft throws a check at them to make it exclusively on the worst performing and worst selling console"

Someone sounds butt hurt that SONY couldn't afford to throw a check at them. That's okay, SONY sure had enough money in the account to score exclusive Destiny content. Before you say I'm a fanboy, I do own a PS4/Vita and XB1. Not to mention I have the white Destiny PS4 pre ordered on amazon as well.

This is why I say all the time on N4G.."PLAY GAMES, not CONSOLES"

IVanSpinal3543d ago

Bloodborne.
Plus Sony made the same to Sega with the same game

MeLoveRamen3543d ago

@IVanSpinal, if you are talking about Bloodborne being moneyhatted you are wrong. Sony's studio japan help make Demon's Souls which was the first souls game, so really the souls game originated on playstation and was partially created by Sony.

SasukeX163543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

@HugoDrax
Learn the difference between DLC and a video game I'm not particularly a fan of exclusive DLC to begin with. I have limited money and remastering a multiplat form only to make the next part of the story exclusive does not make me happy and using the term "butt hurt" sounds immature and idiotic. I apologize for not being able to pull money out whenever I am required to pay 400 dollars to pay for the second part of a Third party franchise.

DragonKnight3543d ago

@IVanSpinal: Bloodborne is a new IP, and therein lies the difference. Xbox fans didn't support Bloodborne in the Past only to get shafted now. Plus, FromSoft are doing with Bloodborne the same thing they did with Demon's Souls, they're using Sony's technical expertise to build an engine they can use for future multiplatform games. 1 exclusive for multiple multiplats is a small price to pay.

DarXyde3543d ago

@meloveramen

Don't forget Shadow Tower! That was pretty much the predecessor to the souls franchise.

Tito083543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

I'll be honest, I think we shouldn't be upset at it, it's not like it never happened before, Nintendo done it as well with Resident Evil, and at that time, it didn't bother me because at the same time Capcom gave PS two new and successful IPs in the form of Onimusha and Devil May Cry, Nintendo is doing exclusivity with Monster Hunter when Capcom is working on Deep Down as a new IP exclusively for PS4, I think MS and Nintendo doing this kind of exclusivity with well known franchises is an opportunity for new exclusive IPs to find success on a specific platform, and then later the same game or sequels be available to multiple devices, I know some of you are upset about that, but I take this as an opportunity for new IPs to shine. Microsoft and Square have a good reason for going exclusive, and a lot of you fellas know why, it's all comes down to one word, Uncharted.

Damn the butt hurt is strong! Microsoft has delivered a heavy blow to your heart lol. I don't hear NINTENDO fanboys saying "Well Metal Gear has roots with NES, so it's not fair that Metal Gear Phantom Pain isn't a Wii U exclusive"

falviousuk3543d ago

Tomb Raider started out on the Saturn then the Dreamcast, not the Playstation.

What is wrong with Playstation only owners, they believe they deserve everything.

The mentality of this group of gamers is ridiculous to the extreme.

Its ok is exclusive content or game comes to the playstation, its not Sony throwing money at debs then, but when an exclusive comes to the xbox its all out rage from this group of people.

sony should distance themselves from this grow of people as they clearly are not gamers, just rotten haters.

So sad

-Foxtrot3543d ago

@HugoDrax

Nintendo fans with Metal Gear? I don't think they were that arsed with Metal Gear to be honest.

It never became popular untill Metal Gear SOLID was on the PS1

@falviousuk

I like how you've commented at the same time as HugoDrax because it means I can kill two birds with one stone basically.

It was on other consoles before the PS1 but like I said above with Metal Gear it never became popular until it was on the PS1....that's where it's MAIN fanbase grew.

Tempest3173543d ago

@HugoDrax
well considering his complaint has nothing to do with "not being a sony exclusive"...he's upset that a 3rd party studio took a multiplatform series and made it exclusive, whilst alienating the largest part of the gamers that bought the game...so your comparison is irrelevant.

DivineHand1253542d ago (Edited 3542d ago )

Don't bother with the Tomb raider has roots with Sony consoles because it has been multiplatform for years and is irrelevant to what is happening now. They only reason people are mad is because they started a new series in the tomb raider franchise and made the sequel exclusive to the platform with the lowest install base.

Jeebus3543d ago

Fortunately, I didn't really care about Bayonetta, and I don't really care about Tomb Raider.

Still a shitty move, since the previous entry was a multiplat. That is what makes it a middle finger.

ion6663543d ago

Thats like assassins creed exclusive to sony ,that be r-tarded

KontryBoy7063543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

No way is this any where close to being like Bayonetta 2. Tomb Raider has been a multiplat game for almost 20 years. This is some phucked up dumb news

CaptainObvious8783543d ago

Well this exclusivity is a bit disappointing, I have to admit.

Considering the immense sales the PS4 has over the xbone right now, the compensation MS had to provide to make up for the lost sales would be millions apon millions.

Would MS fans much rather MS use that money to fund a brand new game instead of effectively being used purely to block the game coming to PS platforms?

Muzikguy3543d ago

I'm beginning to wonder things like that too. I mean, who gains from this? MS loses money and SE loses sales(money). Even IF Microsoft gave a ton of money, that's just wasted IMO. We can't forget either that it's very likely the game itself loses fans because of this. Not a smart move for future games

extermin8or3543d ago

And MS wont make those millions back from this games sales and the xboxes they sell because of this game I can't see being that high a number-after all Playstation does have Uncharted 4 and people aren't going to buy the console for the one game...

insomnium23543d ago

Gotta love dem MS tactics. Gosh it would be best if MS just dissapeared from gaming. All you are doing is poisoning the industry. All the good things you've brought won't make a dent in the pile of BS at the other end of the scale. Just leave MS.

1Victor3543d ago

I got a question for all Xbox fan how would you feel if Sony announce the next call of duty will be exclusive to PS4? that's how PlayStation fans feel like.

Rocky53543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Couldn't care less, I'm a Battlefield player :-P

extermin8or3543d ago

Assassins Creed would be a better fit.

beerzombie3543d ago

that would never happen plus they love MS

avengers19783543d ago

Crystal Dynamics and Square are the ones that are going to suffer from this, unless MSgave them a lot of money... More people bought Tomb Raider and the remastered version on PS3 and PS4 than on 360 and XB1. There losing more than half there sales... Unless of course a ton of Xbox fans become Tomb Raider fans, cause I don't see this as a reason playstation fans would buy an XB1.

Just upset Sony fans continuing to bash anything Microsoft does.

It'll be timed anyway, so everyone should just chill out.

When a game sells better (vgchartz sucks, but .46 mill to .17 mill as of July) and looks better (60 fps vs 30 fps) on one system, but ends up becoming exclusive to the system that it sold worse and looked worse on, fans might be pissed.

Also, No Man's Sky is a new Ip / game, not one in a series that has previously released on multiple systems. Also, the devs also made Joe Danger through the Sony Pub Fund which meant that it would be exclusive to the PlayStation. However, Sony let them (a small indie studio) release it on the 360. Returning the favor and doing a timed exclusivity is one way to return the favor.

It's more the fact that TR originated on PS and was exclusive for a long time, then it went to both consoles and nobody complained, but now it's not even on PS anymore that's ridiculous! It'd be like suddenly not having Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls games on XB1 anymore.

falviousuk3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Why do you fanboys continue with this nonsense, it started out on the Saturn then the dreamcast and was ported to the Playstation.

Studio-YaMi3543d ago

@falviousuk

From the Tomb Raider WIKI :
"The original game, titled Tomb Raider, made its debut on the Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and PC. It was one of the major titles responsible for the PlayStation's success in the mid-1990s, and helped ship over 100 million PlayStation consoles."

What the hell are you talking about and who's spreading crap now???

BG115793543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Sony didn't secure the No Man's Sky. Microsoft's new rules about indie made them run away. They didn't have the man to develop Xbone's and PS4's at the same time, so they choose one.
No Man's Sky comes from indie developpers.
Well, Sony also helped them when this little team lost their material after the flood.

Giul_Xainx3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Hahahaha. This is why watching the fanboy wars is so entertaining. I am a Sony fan, not a fanboy.

The one thing xbox people have to remember is this: Tomb Raider started on playstation, sega saturn, and dos. Just not xbox.

@falviousuk

OK Sorry I didn't realise it came out on others since I only saw it on PS and I was 5 years old.

Shabutie133543d ago

There is a large difference here. "No Man's Sky" is a new IP that doesn't have a home yet, while Tomb Raider has a storied franchise that came into existence on the PS. It is a slap in the face to all of those that supported it throughout the years. Personally, I don't think either of the new consoles are worth the money, and the game will probably be on PC soon after.

Dudebro903543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Yea sounds like those fans are super loyal.

BlackTar1873543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Didn't all the Tomb raiders sell better on PS platforms since forever?

Just wondering. Comparing to an unestablished Ip isn't fair.

I believe tomb raider only released less then 30days early on sega saturn in EU. In the US they released at the same time i thought.
It didn't only move over once Saturn died they had less then 30days between them

Sega Saturn EU
25 October 1996[1]
Sega Saturn US
NA 14 November 1996[2]
Playstation 1
PlayStationNA 14 November 1996[2]

not exactly enough time for it to have died.

Budobear3543d ago

I hate to disagree but here we go
Tomb Raider started on the Sega Saturn and was ported over the Playstation after, so PS pinched it from Sega.
I've always seen it as playstation game though as thats where it found its home.
Love the 1st one, wasn't that keen on the 2nd and as a result haven't played a TR game since, so its no big loss for me.

Menkyo3543d ago

Actually Tomb Raider was a Sega Saturn exclusive that moved to PS1 after the Saturn died. No man's Sky is timed exclusive to PS4. It's being reported that Rise of the Tomb Raider is a lifetime exclusive to xbone. Whether it will come to pc is anyone guess.

Probably not. It probably would have been more chilled. But it would have made sense. The PS4 version of the last gen Tomb Raider doubled the One sales. They would just be following a trend. This is them going against that. Which has obviously annoyed those fans who bought the previous current gen version

Magicite3543d ago

TR have always been on Playstation, its iconic franchise!

levian3543d ago

I think a lot of these reactions are from former Xbox 360 fanboys who jumped to PS4.

But honestly, if they went exclusive from the first game I'd understand that. You don't switch halfway through a game series to exclusivity. They complain sales aren't high enough on the first Tomb Raider, then they make this move which will result in less than half of the sales it'd be if it was on both.

All this is hinging on it not being a timed exclusive though. Not to mention, I care nothing for this game. First Tomb Raider kinda sucked. No tombs, mostly a teenage girl taking on armies solo.

torchic3543d ago

two completely different things.

Tomb Raider has always been a "PlayStation franchise" and to this day most of its fans are playing on PlayStation. the prequel to Rise of the Tomb Raider was on PS4 and sold best on PS4. it's only right that those fans who continually support the game (since the 90s) deserve every other game in the franchise no?

No Man's Sky is a brand new game by a new developer with no fanbase on any platform.

I disagree with all forms of 3rd-party exclusive content but Square Enix & Crystal Dynamics went too far in this situation...

rdgneoz33543d ago

"No Man's Sky is a brand new game by a new developer with no fanbase on any platform."

Not true really. They made Joe Danger through the Sony Pub Fund (Sony matches development cost in return for exclusivity). But Sony was kind to them and let them release the game on the 360.

Timed exclusivity for their new game seems somewhat like returning the favor.

stuna13543d ago

Different circumstances! New Indie IP, small development group, no fanbase following.

Baccra173543d ago

If roles were reversed people would still be pissed.

Also If SE thought the first Tomb Raider did poorly sales wise, why would you make the second game an exclusive? Game companies tell us all the time that exclusives limit sales so why is it that SE is limiting itself?

styferion3543d ago

if the roles were reversed, like Sunset Overdrive you mean?
I don't see many overreaction from that, because when you start a new IP you can easily explain why it's going exclusive. This however, can certainly going multiplatform without all that talk about the project denied or need dedicated server, so it is certain that it becomes exclusive because MS paid them.

There's a big difference on starting a new IP exclusively and making a famous multiplatform franchise an exclusive.

sprinterboy3543d ago

@dudebro

Gamers are raging cause tombraider has always been playstation at heart from beginning, image if gears of war or halo boxset got bought by sony and was not coming to xbone, you would be raging right.

Dfooster3543d ago

There's a difference between a new IP being exclusive and an established franchise that has historically always been a playstation first title becoming an exclusive for a rival

user56695103543d ago

This franchise has always been a multiplatforms. It's weird to see tomb raider exclusive to any platform.

Sheikh Yerbouti3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Let me get this straight...!

A classic title with major mass market appeal that has been on the PlayStation from the beginning, where it has sold more than any console brand, a brand that is the hottest selling console by a ratio of 2 to 3...goes exclusive! Heeeyalarious!

You don't just go against that brand loyalty and OBVIOUS consumer trends, and not expect some backlash. This would be dumber than if Gears were to become a Sony timed exclusive because they have to know it ain't going to sell as well. However much dumb costs, the cost of your loyalty, Microsoft met it.

The Gates' boys wrote a check in hopes to boost sales and Squeenix/Crystal Dynamics was all "D'Ohkay!" LOL. When was this deal made? 2012?

you are very wise. Unfortunately broke fanboys cry about what they feel is being unfair to the opposite company

insomnium23542d ago (Edited 3542d ago )

@thunderbird & danny

People have values you know. There is no way in hell I would support a console manufacturer like MS ever since x360. The original xbox is great even today but everything else is pure poison for this industry.

Here we are again with MS BS tactics. Why can't they make their own franchises so they can keep them exclusive and noone bats an eye in a negative way? Make a new game/franchise like Sony does all the time. The only big exclusive franchise in last 10 years almost is Geow. Everything else originates from the original xbox. Alain Wake was a good push but then again that and Geow 2 atleast too ended up on PC. What is it with exclusive games and MS consoles? Why do they hate each other so much?

I cannot understand in a million years what is it that keep people buiyng the MS consoles cause it sure as hell isn't the games.

AutoCad3543d ago

@Thunderbird
Sometimes its just about having a crazy cult like love for one system..People cant put their pride away therefore they wont go out and buy another console than the console they worship.Dont see how they call themselves gamers.

insomnium23542d ago (Edited 3542d ago )

People have values outside monetary values perhaps? No matter what games MS buys out I will not support their way of doing business. I'm not for sale. You have to earn my respect and if you eff up (like DRM and such BS) it takes YEARS worth of good behaviour (what I consider good behaviour, clearly not what you do) to get that trust back.

For example the xbox was good but as soon as x360 came the support for that thing dropped like a bad apple.

Another example would be x360 in the beginning it was all about games and after a few years went by it was all about Kinect. After all those BS PR claims of superiority against PS3 when the had a win-by-default situation it was even more disgusting to see them drop the core gamer support after Alain Wake.

Now if we look at Sony's side of things there is nothing but great support and years after years of gaming on every console they've brought out. Buying a Sony console is synonymous with lots of gaming support even after the new gen arrives. It's also synonymous with great EXCLUSIVE gaming library in addition to all the multiplats. There's no competition here.

Now MS once again pays money to prevent gamers from playing Tomb Raider after the first reboot was on both platforms. What a dick move once again and now moves like this have become the norm on this industry thanks to MS.

MS tries buy their way to the top here just like last gen with the effing GTA4 tattoos and all other BS. Their PR dep is full of the worst kind of people. Atleast it has been. They've acted like a schoolyard bully ever since x360 and now with this buy out they went straight back to that again. I almost started to feel sorry for them for a while but nw they slipped that zombie game and Ryse to PC and buys out TR I'm straight out disgusted at them and hope they would leave the industry. What a rollercoaster.

I find it funny to hear people saying you must be a brand loyal fanboy if you dislike MS and xbox. How braindead little brat can you get? A gamer should not support bad business practices and help to destroy gaming as it is. Once you give them the power they will squeeze and milk every single penny from you and tells you to deal with it. Didn't we see this with the xbone reveal?

Zero Dawn sold really well so I’m not sure this belongs. The second game released next to a big game again and it hurt it some I forget what it was though, oh yeah Elden Ring .
But a good game is a good game to me I don’t care when they release personally but they do have to think about it when you want to get more people to buy it.

The Tomb Raider Survivor Trilogy's Take on Lara Croft Deserved More Recognition

The Survivor Trilogy was a drastic reimagining of Lara Croft and Tomb Raider, and it provokes changes for the character that are truly fantastic.

Deserves less IMO, i think the 1st in the new trilogy was a perfect 1st step for the new direction. The next 2 games were half steps at best. Not only that, every character in the series including Lara is just annoying and doesn't make sense in terms of motive, like yes they have a motive, but none of it seems proportional to the lengths they are willing to go through for it. The most annoying thing is every one of the games say "become the Tomb Raider" yet 3 games later and we're still not there? No thanks. Then there's the mess of the 3rd game, massive skill tree that serves almost no purpose as there's literally only like 3-4 short encounters in the whole game, and they took till the 3rd game to finally manage some decent puzzles even remotely close to previous games in the series. Nah, the trilogy infuriated me to no end as a long time fan of the series, i hope we get better going forward cause that crap sucked.

The first in the trilogy was my favorite. I thought they were going into the right direction with that one until the second one came out and seemed like a graphical downgrade but the gameplay was okay. As for the Third, Graphics were really nice but it was kinda boring me to death with its non-stop platforming and exploring with not enough action! Well, for me anyway...

DeathTouch465d ago

Graphics on the 3rd one were abysmal. It’s more colorful and has more variety, but everything else was a noticeable downgrade.

The more open world with NPC quests was also handled very poorly, to the point I missed Angel of Darkness.

thesoftware730465d ago

I know it is your opinion, but she did progress as a character in each game, she even got more muscular and seasoned.

That is the thing, people first complained that there was not enough platforming and actual tomb raiding in the first and second games. Shadow remedied that and kept the combat elements.

3-4 encounters? huh? did we play the same game? there was plenty of combat and, the skill tree did matter, like being able to hang enemies from trees, set explosives traps on bodies, being able to counter, and that are just a few of the combat skills. The skill tree also had things like being able to hold your breath underwater longer, crafting upgrades, zipline upgrade, and climbing upgrades that all changed how you can approach situations.

Not knocking your opinion, but we definitely had different experiences. I had 98% completion on the shadow.

SoulWarrior465d ago (Edited 465d ago )

Sorry but i'm with him about the low number of encounters, the game throws loads of weapons and skills you're way with a comparatively low amount of places to actually use them, so they felt under utilised.

-Foxtrot467d ago

Yeah...no

It was awful, for THREE GAMES it was "become the Tomb Raider" where she went back to square one after each game. Not to mention after a huge reaction of killing someone for the first time she then becomes Rambo straight after and goes on a slaughter spree without a single other reaction. Her development was all over the place.

She was whiney, weak and in later game a little arrogant and selfish

Oh and the voice actress compared to the previous ones was not as good

Lara Croft deserved better and while they are decent games as they are, we deserved actual Tomb Raider games, we could have had better survival games if they just stuck with the original Lara Crofts origin about her plane going down. Surviving 2 weeks in the Himalayas...I'd have liked to seen that, who knows what mystical threat she could have faced in the mountains or underground some secret concealed cave.

Tacoboto465d ago

I thought Shadow of the Tomb Raider had better gameplay than Rise, but it annoyed me the most of the trilogy when I stopped to think about the story.

It's like they deliberately decided to make her unlikeable and did nothing to make the character you're playing as likeable or have even one sign of humility.

SoulWarrior467d ago

2013 I thought was a fine entry, but Rise and especially Shadow were painfully mediocre follow ups imo, I really didn't like how selfish and angry her character was in those two.

Terry_B465d ago

No. Please forget the crap completely.

northpaws465d ago

First one was decent, played through it twice.
Second one was okay, played through it once.
Third one was really bad, tried twice a year apart, still can't get through the first two hours, it is just really bad.

thesoftware730465d ago

Honest question, what did you find bad about it? the opening 2 hrs of Shadow were fantastic imo.

The opening was very similar to the first 2, what did you find really bad?

Not looking for an argument, just an honest question.

Starman69465d ago

3rd one just didn't feel like a tomb raider game. Possibly because the development was passed to another development team. Big mistake! Microsoft killed tomb raider making the first game a timed exclusive. Never recovered after that.

They're all solid games, but nothing quite matched the epicness of the first one for me. I think the 3rd one started off strong but once you got to that Peruvian area it took a massive nose dive for me.

lelo2play846d ago (Edited 846d ago )

You got to be kidding!
The first one was great at the time... but this latest trilogy of Tomb Raider games are also great.

LiViNgLeGaCY846d ago

I think he means the first one in the new trilogy.

CrimsonWing69846d ago

I meant the first of the new trilogy.

Furesis846d ago

yeah i remember liking the first one when it came out, so i tried the second one sometime after release and i just could not get into it, i couldn't finish it. So i might try the 3rd now that i got it for free but ehh. But i do remember enjoying the first one, i wonder if i'd feel the same way if i played it today? Better not taint those memories lol

ANIALATOR136845d ago

I was the same for some reason. Never finished the second one. I got like half way through maybe.

ActualWhiteMan845d ago (Edited 845d ago )

The first one of the latest trilogy is a masterpiece

Fishy Fingers846d ago

I'll take a copy of Shadow... Cheers.

Profchaos846d ago

Great games I've played them all on ps4 but it'll be good to finally try shadow on my rtx card.

Double_O_Revan846d ago

Trying to claim them and the store keeps crashing. lol.

gamefreaks365846d ago

EGS has been having issues all day.

RedDevils846d ago

Weird I don't has that issue.

Double_O_Revan846d ago

I finally got it after a while. But it was real bad for a while.

PeeShuter846d ago (Edited 846d ago )

Double_O_Revan845d ago
