GarrusVakarian3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Wtf? This was completely unexpected.

Not even a PC release?

Good thing I have an X1 as well, I loved the last game, hopefully this one improves upon it. I'm guessing there are some angry gamers right about now, though. This right here is an example of why it's wise to own both consoles.

Edit: It's a timed exclusive? I'm confused, lol.

bouzebbal3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

TR: Underworld has been a 360 exclusive for quite some time and they even got extra missions even post PS3 release that PS3 owners never got the chance to try.

TR is historically linked to PS, but now TR is linked to $$$... just sad for fans.

BiggCMan3543d ago

It will definitely be a timed exclusive. To me this seems way too obvious. It will probably come out early 2016 everywhere else. The game did way too well on all platforms to ignore that money.

bicfitness3543d ago

"Exclusive for 2015." You people must not be watching the show.

ForgottenProphecy3543d ago

With Microsoft, Xbox exclusive means a PC release and a Ps4 release a year or two later

StanLee3543d ago

I think it's only in 2015. It was carefully worded. I think the exclusivity is timed.

Malphite3543d ago

Well after Dead Rising, Plants vs. Zombies and Ryse I really doubt that TR will stay exclusive forever.

GarrusVakarian3543d ago

@bicfitness

You're' right, I'm not watching the show, hence why I asked if it was a timed exclusive. Which seems to be the case. Oh well, I'm not going to wait up to a year to play it on my PS4, I might as well just play it on my X1.

Edit: Oh God, the comments here are so bad. Now I remember why I stopped coming here as often. *Throws up*. Don't scroll down, people.

GarrusVakarian3543d ago

@Septic

Apparently it's fully exclusive.

But then I'm hearing MS specifically said "exclusive in 2015".

Who do I believe? Lol.

-Foxtrot3543d ago

There's no way this is a full on exclusive...forever

It's Square Enix.....SQUARE ENIX

You know how much they love money...these are the guys who thought Tomb Raiders good sales were disappointing.

Christopher3543d ago

***This right here is an example of why it's wise to own both consoles. ***

NO!

This is not why you own both consoles. You own them both for games that are unique to each one. You don't own both so that when one company throws some money at a third party to make a previously multiplatform game exclusive you can get it on the console where they think what is good for the business is to withhold games from gamers like this.

Ares84HU3543d ago Show
guitarded773543d ago

It was actually kinda expected since we had info that MS was going to announce a 3rd party title going exclusive.

Still, this is total BS for all gamers. Those who can't afford two or more systems, and, and, and MS GAMERS. MS gamers should be pissed that they are spending money to have devs NOT make games for other consoles instead of making REAL exclusives for the XBOX One. I hope sales tank.

rainslacker3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Apparently it's a full on exclusive. It likely still is timed, but this "apology" letter explaining the situation is just a slap in the face to the TR community, which predominately presides on PS.

http://tombraider.tumblr.co...

I'm not even a huge TR fan, but the post above with them saying "we still have great content for other platforms" just reeks the same way "We have a system for those people, it's called the 360" statement from last year.

Not even releasing it on PC? Way to slap two big communities in the face.

tbone5673543d ago

Yes! Xbox One exclusive baby.

DragonKnight3543d ago

@cgoodno: Again, couldn't have said any better.

This is my problem with this. Square Enix must forget that they considered Tomb Raider's reboot a commercial failure because it "only" sold 3 million copies on all platforms, that's not counting the fraud, I mean definitive edition.

So in doing their math calculations, Square Enix thought that 5 million was greater than 10 million and greater still than hundreds of millions. That's the only way I can see them purposely ignoring the PS4 (with a userbase of 10 million gamers) and PC (MILLIONS of gamers) and the combined numbers of potential consumers that would be open to the game if it were multiplat.

3rd party titles being exclusive in this day and age is akin to saying "I don't like money."

I don't care if Microsoft drove 10 truckloads of money up to Square-Enix's door, no amount of money they'd receive from Microsoft would equal the potential money they could get from a multiplatform release.

Timed exclusives are just as bad. People WILL move on. If you think people enjoy waiting years to get a game that's already out, you'd be wrong.

No matter how you look at this, this decision is not a good thing.

TomShoe3543d ago

Never buying another Tomb Raider game as long as I live.

GarrusVakarian3543d ago

@CGood

I'm a gamer first and foremost. Sure, I do care if companies are doing BS things like this at the expense of entire fanbases, and I will voice my displeasure acts such tactics...but at the end of the day, I want to play this game, and if I didn't buy an X1 I wouldn't be able to. So, IMO, it's wise to own both consoles to make sure you play as many games as possible, no matter how they actually end up as being exclusive.

SilentNegotiator3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Is ANYTHING not made by a MS owned studio really a true exclusive on Xbox anymore?

Seems like a total waste, considering how many more Ps4s there are. They're going to waste all of the hype on the least popular system and by 2016, no one is going to be talking about it.

4Sh0w3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Its business, probably timed exclusive but while I think ps fans should be able to play this game I still don't blame microsoft if anything the only one here who should have ALL gamers interest at heart is SE, but again its business, sony does it, they just have less money to do it more, but ultimately each company is only concerned with their own fanbase interest as it should be, as a business they have a responsibility to find every incentive big or small to sell their platform, why should they care if the fanbase that hates them gets upset? They are not the ones that deals like this are targeted at, and the avg joe gamer doesn't care about brands, why this, why that, he just wants to play his games, wherever they are.

MehmetAlperTR3543d ago

"Rise of the Tomb Raider Exclusive to Xbox One"

Very unexpected. Guess I'll have to purchase a X1 now.

EDIT: @esemce
Square Enix did say that Tomb Raider wasn't very successfully. Maybe Microsoft paid for game development like Nintendo did with Bayonetta 2.

esemce3543d ago

Just remember when MS says exclusive they mean timed exclusive, there is no way in hell they would miss out on the potential sales of a PS3,PS4,PC,WiiU and 360 version.

And also like E3 they game demos they shaow are probably running on PC's.

Christopher3543d ago

***Very unexpected. Guess I'll have to purchase a X1 now. ***

*cries a little inside*

Congrats, you are doing exactly what MS wants and proving that these tactics are exactly what they need to do rather than winning you over with new IPs.

lelo3543d ago

@cgoodno

Who would have thought. Microsoft bringing exclusives to incentive people to purchase their product. They are so bad. Shame on them. Never seen that before... wait a second, isn't that what Sony and Nintendo do, bring exclusives to sell their products? /s

Seriously dude. You got to be kidding me.
* Shakes head *

Christopher3543d ago

***Who would have thought. Microsoft bringing exclusives to incentive people to purchase their product. ***

Yeah, you're right. Instead of just developing a whole new IP that hasn't been seen anywhere else, why don't we instead spend the money to make a game that was previously multiplatform exclusive to our platforms.

That is, after all, what's best for the gamers...

Because these businesses are all about what's best for the gamers...

This is all about business, nothing else. You take an IP that sold better on your competing platform and you pay to make it exclusive to your own with the idea of forcing people to buy your console to play just that one game.

Sounds like a great idea. I mean, I totally trust businesses who back me into corners instead of bending over backwards to make me happy by offering tons of new stuff.

choujij3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

All the more power to you, Lelo. However, some of us choose not to reward these type of actions out of principle.

I have been waiting for them to invest in creating new ips, to show me why I should buy their consoles for the 3rd time. Today, they showed me they are more interested in taking games away from other gamers and platforms, rather than creating more of their own content.

They had a chance to win gamers like me back, but they pissed on it.

Silver3603543d ago

Could it be that they don't want to compete against uncharted on the PS4 and are waiting for it to die down before releasing on PS4

gman_moose3543d ago

@ Convas

At least NMS isn't a sequel, but a new IP. If Sony locks it up now, good for them. MS is taking a direct sequel out of the hands of gamers for their own greedy agenda. S-E is not innocent in this either. They've been bending over for MS since early 360 days.

Press conference just ending now. Sooooo... MS had nothing new to show? I missed the start. All I saw was stuff they already had at E3. Failure.

Christopher3543d ago

@Convas: MS passed on No Man's Sky. And, there is no No Man's Sky game already out on multiplatforms. It's a new IP.

No one is upset about new INdie games being exclusive to XBO. But, you take an existing IP that was on PS4 and XBO and then cut it down to just MS consoles? That's a crime against your fans. Plain and simple.

Slightly unfair cgoodno. It definitely goes both ways. The main difference is Sony have a better internal studio output rate. Good games are good games regardless but Sony just produce more true exclusives which in turn build a stronger brand imo.

Sunset overdrive is looking slick. . Definitely a spiritual successor to jet set radio. . Can't go wrong with that.

Christopher3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

@fermcr: Find me one quote where I praise Sony for the same thing. I want all games to go to as many gamers as possible. But, now, we're taking away games from them by making sequels platform exclusive.

@Whyowhy: This is an IP that was previously multiplatform being bought by MS to be just on their platform. The ONLY thing this is unfair to are the gamers.

Why o why3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

I hear ya cgoodno that's why I say slightly. You can't blame ms for securing it. I'd direct more of the vitriol towards CD or whomsoever accepted the deal IF it was not made by themselves. They know who their fans are. It's their gamble and will probably be timed regardless.

The Fall of Tomb Raider confirmed.

callahan093543d ago

This could be good for everyone. I have no doubts it comes to PS4 shortly after Xbox One. It's probably a couple of months exclusivity (that's just a guess). As PS4 gamers get Uncharted 4, Xbox One gamers get Tomb Raider at the end of 2015. Square Enix doesn't throw Tomb Raider to the wolves against Uncharted 4 on PS4, where it would get completely ignored. And a couple of months later, now probably early 2016, by February I'm *GUESSING*, they bring it to PS4 and soak up the sales there because by then everyone is done with Uncharted. They get the biggest possible release on BOTH consoles this way. Very smart for Microsoft and Square Enix. PlayStation gamers are almost unaffected if it goes down like that, because who wants to buy Uncharted and Tomb Raider at the same time? Uncharted comes first, PS4 gamers consume the hell out of it, and just as they are feeling dry again, here comes Tomb Raider for PS4 fans.

Clarence3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

This game won't make a bit of difference in this gen console war. Plus it they said exclusive to xbone in 2015. If PS fans want the game just wait until 2016.

Instead of using their money to make more new ips, M$ continues to buy time exclusive rights for a game. Classic M$.

The Tomb Raider Survivor Trilogy's Take on Lara Croft Deserved More Recognition

The Survivor Trilogy was a drastic reimagining of Lara Croft and Tomb Raider, and it provokes changes for the character that are truly fantastic.

gamerant.com
isarai467d ago (Edited 467d ago )

Deserves less IMO, i think the 1st in the new trilogy was a perfect 1st step for the new direction. The next 2 games were half steps at best. Not only that, every character in the series including Lara is just annoying and doesn't make sense in terms of motive, like yes they have a motive, but none of it seems proportional to the lengths they are willing to go through for it. The most annoying thing is every one of the games say "become the Tomb Raider" yet 3 games later and we're still not there? No thanks. Then there's the mess of the 3rd game, massive skill tree that serves almost no purpose as there's literally only like 3-4 short encounters in the whole game, and they took till the 3rd game to finally manage some decent puzzles even remotely close to previous games in the series. Nah, the trilogy infuriated me to no end as a long time fan of the series, i hope we get better going forward cause that crap sucked.

Army_of_Darkness465d ago

The first in the trilogy was my favorite. I thought they were going into the right direction with that one until the second one came out and seemed like a graphical downgrade but the gameplay was okay. As for the Third, Graphics were really nice but it was kinda boring me to death with its non-stop platforming and exploring with not enough action! Well, for me anyway...

DeathTouch465d ago

Graphics on the 3rd one were abysmal. It’s more colorful and has more variety, but everything else was a noticeable downgrade.

The more open world with NPC quests was also handled very poorly, to the point I missed Angel of Darkness.

thesoftware730465d ago

I know it is your opinion, but she did progress as a character in each game, she even got more muscular and seasoned.

That is the thing, people first complained that there was not enough platforming and actual tomb raiding in the first and second games. Shadow remedied that and kept the combat elements.

3-4 encounters? huh? did we play the same game? there was plenty of combat and, the skill tree did matter, like being able to hang enemies from trees, set explosives traps on bodies, being able to counter, and that are just a few of the combat skills. The skill tree also had things like being able to hold your breath underwater longer, crafting upgrades, zipline upgrade, and climbing upgrades that all changed how you can approach situations.

Not knocking your opinion, but we definitely had different experiences. I had 98% completion on the shadow.

SoulWarrior465d ago (Edited 465d ago )

Sorry but i'm with him about the low number of encounters, the game throws loads of weapons and skills you're way with a comparatively low amount of places to actually use them, so they felt under utilised.

-Foxtrot467d ago

Yeah...no

It was awful, for THREE GAMES it was "become the Tomb Raider" where she went back to square one after each game. Not to mention after a huge reaction of killing someone for the first time she then becomes Rambo straight after and goes on a slaughter spree without a single other reaction. Her development was all over the place.

She was whiney, weak and in later game a little arrogant and selfish

Oh and the voice actress compared to the previous ones was not as good

Lara Croft deserved better and while they are decent games as they are, we deserved actual Tomb Raider games, we could have had better survival games if they just stuck with the original Lara Crofts origin about her plane going down. Surviving 2 weeks in the Himalayas...I'd have liked to seen that, who knows what mystical threat she could have faced in the mountains or underground some secret concealed cave.

Tacoboto465d ago

I thought Shadow of the Tomb Raider had better gameplay than Rise, but it annoyed me the most of the trilogy when I stopped to think about the story.

It's like they deliberately decided to make her unlikeable and did nothing to make the character you're playing as likeable or have even one sign of humility.

SoulWarrior467d ago

2013 I thought was a fine entry, but Rise and especially Shadow were painfully mediocre follow ups imo, I really didn't like how selfish and angry her character was in those two.

Terry_B465d ago

No. Please forget the crap completely.

northpaws465d ago

First one was decent, played through it twice.
Second one was okay, played through it once.
Third one was really bad, tried twice a year apart, still can't get through the first two hours, it is just really bad.

thesoftware730465d ago

Honest question, what did you find bad about it? the opening 2 hrs of Shadow were fantastic imo.

The opening was very similar to the first 2, what did you find really bad?

Not looking for an argument, just an honest question.

Starman69465d ago

3rd one just didn't feel like a tomb raider game. Possibly because the development was passed to another development team. Big mistake! Microsoft killed tomb raider making the first game a timed exclusive. Never recovered after that.
