Microsoft At Gamescom 2014: Power of the Cloud, Halo, ID@Xbox, Quantum Break and More

"Depending on who you listen to, Microsoft effectively "won" E3 2014. Despite the fact that every major publisher had significantly good shows this past July (barring you know who), it was Microsoft that stood out the most for the sheer simplicity of its presentation. "

can't wait to see QB and scalebound at action , im super hyped about scalebound . and i hope they will show a trailer or teaser for the next GOW ^_^

gameseveryday3545d ago

We will most likely see Scalebound at TGS. Microsoft would like to show off 3rd party support to coincide with the Japanese launch of Xbox One in September.

Manic20143545d ago

Actually, I think they may show scalebound at Gamescom as they did recently tweeted that teaser image.

GameNameFame3545d ago

Lol cloud power? People keep going at that?

It was proven at this point that it is identical to what dedicated servers can do

DOMination-3544d ago

The Cloud IS dedicated servers

tgunzz3545d ago

I can't wait for gamescom either! Looks to be some fantastic surprises from the xbox camp. I will say, that if MS unleashes BC (with xb support as well as 360)I will lose my mind, I still own Hulks ultimate destruction that I want so bad to play! Looking forward to more cloud tech info, and more IP showcase. Fun times ahead.... Game on.

Gamer19823545d ago

Who cares about cloud tech info really?? People want games dammit! Only fanboys really care about that as they truly think it makes the console more powerful than ps4. Its a nice feature having driveatars but thats all it will probably be used for on xbox (the extent wise not JUST that )

tgunzz3544d ago

@gamer1982, I care about cloud tech info, as well as all info related to the consoles I own (which is all 3). Have you read anything in my comments about who has the most power console (I could care less). If you want to exchange quality feedback with me, I am all for it, but you can save your battle cry for someone else. Some gamers are so used to trolling, that they forget there are gamers on this site who enjoy these consoles, and look forward to their offerings... Game on.

700p3545d ago

Yeah scalebound is a game i wanna know more about, im really interested in it. AND of course QB!

FanboyKilla3544d ago

lmfao at these comments. xone article full of ps fans saying no no no sony. lmfao unless sony pulls some games out there arse, n4g will be a riot during gamescon. it is GAMES CON. my ps4 is for superior ps exclusives only. so you guessed it, its pretty much useless to me untill then. greatness awaits. will be cool to see a glimpse of that ''greatness'' at gamescon, im getting excited.

Major_Glitch3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

@Fanboy Odd. I know the words you're using, but the way you're using them makes no sense whatsoever.
OT: No...seriously...what point are you trying to make?
Really On Topic: I honestly wish MS would stop wasting time, energy, and money hyping up the "cloud" and instead focus on games.

That'll be great. New ip s are always welcome. (Non-indie)

Sheikh Yerbouti3545d ago

Indies are welcomed too. Don't diss indie games...unless they're bad. LOL. Just got to have a balance.

They have .. Quantum Break , scalebound , sunset overdrive.
also Lionhead is working on new IP.

arkard3545d ago

I think he means unannounced ips.

OrangePowerz3545d ago

Looking forward to seein some Quantum Break footage.

Galvanise3545d ago

I'd like to know how Microsoft 'Won'. General opinion was that people were disappointed that their new reveals were all CG trailers for games due out in 2016.
Based on forum feedback, Sony's announcement of Bloodborne 'won' them the show.
To be honest, I felt the whole of E3 was rather poor so it all comes down to who was leader of the rats.

OpieWinston3545d ago

Scalebound and Phantom Dust are both games due for 2015 releases...Sure they may be pushed back, Crackdown was the game that's got a 2016 release date expected.

"Forum feedback" My friends and I were just like "Okay Bloodborne", I'm always looking for a challenging game but I find the Souls games to be tedious and just the little leaks of "Project Beast" did nothing but reinforce that.

Microsoft won over Sony on the conferences...But Nintendo had the best showcasing of games.

DigitalRaptor3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

"Microsoft won over Sony on the conferences...But Nintendo had the best showcasing of games."

We already knew almost all of what Microsoft had from leaks, and any dedicated gamer watching E3, would already know about these leaks. It's so obvious that the CGI trailers are 2016 releases buffed up as a part of Microsoft's 2015 lineup, because they needed that perception that they have more games than the competition, REALLY BADLY. They had the 'safest' show by far.

You come to E3 expecting surprises, and Sony had more NEW things to announce that were unexpected in relation to the show. I'd write a list of new games and content that Sony announced but I think I'd be beating a dead horse with you guys, really.

Galvanise3545d ago

Phantom Dust won't be out next year. Scalebound was called 'Project Nagano' which is also internally scheduled for 2016.

Don't get me wrong, having those titles is excellent for Microsoft, but they are further away than most announced games. The furthest away game Sony has announced is Uncharted 4. Everything else is out before March 31st next year.

s8anicslayer3545d ago

PS4 is leading in worldwide sales over the Xone and is killing the competition in weekly sales so put opinions aside and rethink your answer on who "won" E3!

Sm00thNinja3545d ago

The general consensus is Nintendo "won" E3. Microsoft played it safe but was efficient, and Sony while showing impressive titles and wowed with Uncharted was droll and boring with talk of tv. IMO nobody won but Sony was the most disappointing but why show all your cards when all your doing is padding your lead?? Also based on forum feedback this is a site for only Playstation gamers so that explains the infatuation with bloodborne. Anyways this "cloud" talk is getting old for me it's the last chance to prove its viable

Yetter3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

and what happens after 'the last chance?' The XB1 isn't even a year old yet. Using the cloud to off load processing has never been done (on a large scale anyways). I wouldn't expect to see games that really take advantage of this capability until 2016

thexmanone3545d ago

Leave it to a Sony Fanboy to jump into a Xbox one Article. But anyways thank for your opinion, but in my opinion MS won.

Sm00thNinja3545d ago Show
GasTankKiller3545d ago

If this is how MS wins I don't know if I want to be apart of it.

The Xbox brand has been run into the ground by a fool that is now helping run Zynga into the ground. Thank goodness for Phil Spencer. At lest he understands what gamers want and is working to bring back the Xbox brand.

There is a lot of ground to cover before the Xbox brand is back to its 360 glory days.

Developers/Publishers are even feeling the down turn of the Xbox brand. It honestly sucks but its the unfortunate reality. Look how Crytek views sales of the Xbox one. (Lets not start on Crytek because the head guy there needs to be punched in the head for being a moron.)

I see Sunset Overdrive doing well but not as well as it should because of current Xbox One sales.

In the last two months I've had a good number of friends buy a PS4 because of Destiny. This also includes people that already own an Xbox One.

How can MS win with such a large gap in system sales right now? They can't. Halo 5 will be their key driver of system sales, and that's a year from now.

I look forward to buying my custom Halo 5 Xbox One next fall but right now the PS4 is the flag ship for many gamers including myself.

The only thing MS has won is a lot of disappointment.

WeAreLegion3545d ago

You're kidding me, right? Extreme fanboys around here get one bubble and one bubble only. PlayStation. Xbox. Nintendo. PC. They all get down to one bubble because they're ridiculous.

Many of the more obvious Microsoft fans have more than two bubbles. They're respectable posters who just enjoy Microsoft's games more than Sony's or Nintendo's. They contribute to discussions.

It has nothing to do with "sides".

Xb1ps43545d ago

Digital..

Not everyone knew... Not everyone ruins it by looking into leaks I avoid those as much as I avoid spoilers for a game I haven't played..

Sorry you ruined your surprises.

Farmassy3545d ago

@galvanise
what new things did sony show? bloodborne was already leaked. They announced little big planet 3 (big surprise) and that no mans sky would be exclusive (which its not).

microsoft had just as many surprises if not more than sony. I will admit that if the master chief collection was not leaked it would have made their conference one of the best ever. If no one saw that coming it would have been explosive.

Also, I think you might frequent playstation forums, because most people agree that microsoft had a better showing.

MRMagoo1233545d ago

When did no man's sky get announced as exclusive ? The guys said console debut a few times or is that not obvious enough for you that it's not exclusive ? Obvious fanboy is obvious.

mcarsehat3545d ago

Syphon Filter or we riot!

r2oB3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

No Mans Sky is not exclusive because it is on PC, but Titanfall, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Project Spark are all exclusives even though they are also available on PC. Did I get that right?

EDiT: almost forgot the /s

Farmassy3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

so I have one commenter mad because they never said it was exclusive and another mad because they insist it is still exclusive even if it is coming to PC. Makes no sense...

way to pick out a small point and not grasp the overall point of my comment. I wish you would explain why sony's conference was better than microsoft's (since that is what we were talking about) and not argue semantics.

also, I never said that titanfall and others are exclusives. Don't use your fanboy logic to lock me in with things that others have said. You can't use other people's opinions as my own

If which company won depends on who you listen to, as the article states, then that company didn't "effectively" win anything.

I'm not a Nintendo guy at all, but if anyone won it was them. MS and Sony were about even.

Geoff9003545d ago

It's called an opinion, people may or may not agree with it..

People were disappointed? So far many xbox fans are excited.

XxExacutionerxX3545d ago

Sonys conference was boring, boring, boring PsNow boring. Microsoft beat theirs by default.

rainslacker3545d ago

Their format was the best I've ever seen in an E3 presentation. The all CGI was a bit of a let down, but they still showed a lot of games and very little filler type material.

Lack of actual game play was the only thing that I was disappointed with, but there were a couple good announcements otherwise.

10 Years Later, Sunset Overdrive Still Remains A Beloved Xbox Exclusive

Does it still hold up in 2024?

We've still got a few months to go, but October marks the 10-year anniversary of this Insomniac Games title, with the developer having since moved on to work on the Marvel's Spider-Man games for PlayStation. It was assumed that Sunset Overdrive might make its way to other platforms eventually, but that hasn't happened as of yet.

Christopher19d ago

So beloved that it sold so well that there's a sequel and Insomniac never had the opportunity to go back to Sony to develop games exclusively for Sony.

RaidenBlack19d ago

ngl, I was low-key expecting Sunset Overdrive to migrate to PS as well along with Hi-Fi Rush and SoT

Christopher19d ago

I think that would require Insomniac going back to work on it to port it over, probably why that's not happening.

RaidenBlack19d ago

Didn't Sony help with SoT port?

Christopher19d ago

I think only in so far as they support every piece of software heading their way? They have that team who specializes in helping people port games, not just SoT, and then the one team that takes PS5 games and ports them to PC (that's their full time job essentially). But that team, the former mentioned one, doesn't do all the work, just help out with how to best do things. So, that team wouldn't port a whole game like Sunset Overdrive.

RaidenBlack19d ago

Ok I thought you meant Insomniac reluctant/Sony not permitting them to go back and work on Overdrive. Hence I added the participation from Sony's side.
But yea, In actuality its Insomniac not having spare dev time to get involved in the port work, atm.

Christopher19d ago

*** But yea, In actuality its Insomniac not having spare dev time to get involved in the port work, atm. ***

Definitely this. They're working on two major IPs as it is and Sony forced them to layoff some people at the end of last year as well. So, likely not capable of sparing the time because resources are being fully utilized.

badz14919d ago (Edited 19d ago )

There was an article awhile back talking about the situation with SSoD. Insomniac does own the IP and Sony now owns it after they bought Insomniac but the publishing right for SSoD is owned by MS - at least the 1st game still is. MS has to sell the publishing rights like they did with the first Mass Effect game to EA after EA bought Bioware before Sony can do anything with the IP.

Einhander197218d ago

Nobody cares about Sunset Overdrive, except all the xbox fanboys who didn't buy it but like to come into articles about the game and try to act like it's somehow Sony's fault for whatever reason.

there was supposed to be a sequel. IG had it all planned but MS said no. And Sony wont greenlight a sequel if they cant get the first one away from MS. Plus... IG has other projects they moved on to anyways so...... yeah.

fr0sty18d ago

Well, with the recent change in policy towards exclusivity, I imagine Sony could get MS to port it over.

Zeref19d ago

Because a game needs to sell 10 million copies for it to be considered beloved 😂

Christopher19d ago

I mean, it's also not a highly rated game, not even in Insomniac's top ten or even top ten on Xbox that year. With this logic, any game can be beloved and so throwing around the word beloved means absolutely nothing. Doesn't have to sell or have great critical reception, just a handful of people need to love it.

Hofstaderman19d ago

You guys are so starved for games you reminiscing about a decade old game made by a now Sony studio. Of course it never sold 10 million, the vast majority of people bought a PS4.

LucasRuinedChildhood19d ago

A game not played by many can still be beloved by those who played it, yeah.

Only making a profit of $567 after 10 years shows that it was not as beloved as it should have been though. That's really bad.

As much as people complain about AAA games not being unique or having fun ideas or bringing in new IP, a lot of gamers don't show up for them. Even less people seem to have played Hi-Fi Rush.

romulus2318d ago

What's it considered if it just sells 1.8 million copies like it did?.

FinalFantasyFanatic18d ago

It was okay when I played it on PC, idk if I'd consider it one of the more beloved games of that generation.

I mean, it sounds like you're just hating on the game - but, I loved it. It was one of my favorite games of it's time and that generation. Replayability could have been better, but I still managed to play it several times. I would have greatly appreciated a sequel and definitely would have been in line to pick it up..

Things happen.

Christopher18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

***I mean, it sounds like you're just hating on the game***

No, that's all the people who refused to accept that this game was beloved and never even bought it. I, on the other hand, bought, played it, thought it was 'okay' and moved on.

Now, what hate did you see in my post other than listing the fact that it's not as beloved as the few who liked it? This and Days Gone get way more love in online discussions than they do in sales and support, I find. Both are okay games, not much more. But for some **unknown** reason, people prop them up often as more than they are.

Profchaos19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

It's in noabs land unfortunately as Microsoft own the publishing rights to sunset overdrives original game while insomniac own the IP.

So Microsoft would have to be onboard with publishing this game on PlayStation systems with the understanding the would not profit from any subsequent games in the franchise unlike the games they are currently releasing on ps5 to get players into their franchises this would be a small cash injection build a fanbase around a game they no longer own then nothing.

isarai19d ago

Not beloved enough for Xbox owners to buy it apparently, Xbox was the worst possible audience for that game.

Obscure_Observer19d ago

Sony couldn´t give a f* about Insomniac´s freedom of creativity, that´s why you don´t have a port for that game and will not be getting a sequel either!

That franchise wil probably never make a comback thanks to Sony´s greed for money, which have turned Insomniacs into a Marvel´s slave factory until 2030.

It´s sad, but it is what it is.

ApocalypseShadow19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

I didn't know that Ratchet and Clank were part of the Avengers of Marvel? Hidden in the ending credits of Guardians of the Galaxy or something? Captain Marvel?

Beyond the "cry me a river" of your comment that these Marvel games aren't on Xbox, it was Insomniac that was approached by Sony to work with Marvel to make a game. And let them decide what character they wanted to develop. They chose Spider-Man. Must be highly profitable for them. Wolverine is a profitable, recognizable character. And the X-Men definitely are a hot property that gamers would love as a story based videogame. Being that X-Men 97 brings back a popular Saturday morning cartoon and the introduction of the X-Men into the MCU movies coming up.

It was Microsoft's continued incompetence in cancelling the Marvel MMO game and turning down Marvel in making a super hero game as they were asked first.

Keep the tears flowing. It's not greed. It was smart business to say yes. And maybe Insomniac wants to make these games. And not a game that didn't sell well to an audience that doesn't buy games.

Christopher19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Neither does Microsoft either, based on your own argument here. Microsoft denied the sequel, not Insomniac/Sony. There's also no sign that Microsoft is allowing a port. They control the next two games in the IP and any DLC or the like for the first. But, nothing.

What's sad is people trying to use this game to blame businesses for doing business things that they are both doing as some way to make them look worse. Microsoft wants to use Insomniac to make a good IP that sells their platform and Sony wants to use Insomniac to make a good IP that sells their platform. But, no, Sony bad!

Don't know why the truth that these companies are very much alike is so hard for people to accept.

romulus2318d ago

Your comment literally contradicts itself but troll statements typically do. If Sony is so greedy for money as you proclaim than wouldn't it behoove them to not only release the first game on their console but a sequel as well, as that would be a way for them to make profit and that's apparently their focus according to you? Speaking of profit and greed, I suppose Microsoft bought all those Developers and Publishers in hopes that they wouldn't make any money from it, right? Your ability to troll on this site with impunity is whats sad, but it is what it is.

PrinceOfAnger19d ago

Very fun game that need a sequel.

-Foxtrot19d ago

Insomniac: “We went with Microsoft because we want to own the IP so it’s ours”

Microsoft: *owns publishing rights preventing the studio to re-release the original game, make a remaster, remake, any DLC, massive expansions and multiple sequels on other platforms*

The logic is just…I never got it

Owning the IP was Insomniacs main defence when they announced they were making a game exclusively for MS and yet they’ve ended up “owning” an IP they can’t do anything with.

If they went with Sony like normal you might have seen a sequel by now.

Tacoboto19d ago

The winner of the Logic Cake has to be Bungie, though.

Wanted to be free from Halo and MS, so they buy themselves out, only to partner up with Activision, in the same timeframe as Activision ousting the heads of Infinity Ward, for a full decade with Destiny.

... And then things start falling apart in that relationship almost immediately, whodathought!

Christopher19d ago

Hey, when Sony offers to overpay you for your services and signs a contract that says they won't force you to do anything you don't want, who would say no? Such an overpriced purchase from Sony. Poor business, IMHO. But, honestly, I'm not a business person. But, still, I don't understand it.

darthv7219d ago

...and it seems this conundrum is also why the game cannot receive any sort of FPS boost patch for Series consoles. IG wont make it, and Ms can't get another team to do it without consent from IG. I liked it on XBO, but now I also have this on PC and I can tell ya... it definitely benefits from a 60fps frame rate.

badz14918d ago

been playing it at 1080p144fps on my modest pc. not the hardest game to max out and yeah this game definitely needs to be played at high fps considering all the actions

darthv7219d ago

Sadly this may never get the proper fps update it deserves on XB (or even PS) but I now play it on steam and it definitely feels better at 60fps than it did at 30. Its a fast paced game... you need that 60fps in this one.

babadivad19d ago

This game was so fun. Me and my brother put many hours into this one.

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit39d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer39d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit38d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff218339d ago (Edited 39d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer38d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff218338d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper38d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal39d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood39d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff218338d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde39d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.
