PS4 vs Xbox One: which is better?

At E3, Microsoft gave dithering last-gen gamers more reason to upgrade with an Xbox One price drop so it costs the same as a PS4. It is also adding more "Only on Xbox" games to its library this year that join must-have next-gen exclusive Titanfall.

Of course, both companies claim to have the advantage in powering gamers through the next decade. To see if that's true, our Xbox One vs PS4 comparison needs an update.

This is what Microsoft (and blind fanboys) would have you believe! It is NOT true. It does NOT come down to "personal preference". It comes down to math, specs, and performance.

Fact #1: Playstation 4 has faster RAM, GDDR5 vs. DDR3 + ESRAM Cache

Fact #2: Playstation 4 has 1152 Stream Processors, XBox 1 has 768

Fact #3: Playstation 4 has 32 Raster Operation Processors, Xbox 1 has 16

Fact #4: Playstation 4 has 72 Texture Mapping Units, Xbox 1 has 48

Fact #5: Playstation 4 has a rated floating point performance at 1.84 TFLOPs, Xbox One is at 1.31 TFLOPs.

What does this mean? It means that in the real world, multiplatform games look better, run at higher resolutions, or run at higher frame rates (or all three!).

Since most of the games this gen are going to be multiplatform, there are VERY few reasons to buy an Xbox One when it's at the same price as the PS4. Basically, if you can't live without "Halo", get an Xbox...everyone else, do yourself a favor and avoid the overpriced, underperforming Microsoft console...at least until it's price reflects it's inferior performance.

Bonus Fact! MS charges you extra for headphone adaptors and rechargeable batteries! Xbox has a PROPRIETARY power brick. Xbox using PROPRIETARY cables to connect the controllers to the console (or for recharging the OPTIONAL batteries). Playstation includes rechargeable batteries and has STANDARD headphone connectors, STANDARD USB cables, and STANDARD power cords!

Bonus Fact #2! Only one console will have a true Virtual Reality add on at a later date. Hint: it's not the Microsoft console.

Bonus Fact #3! The Playstation, RIGHT NOW, has almost DOUBLE the amount of games available to play than the Xbox One! (And don't whine about "indies"...your arguments about them are invalid)

But the Xbox 1 is fully 2/3 as powerful as PS4, that's actually very close considering how advanced graphics are now days. Games are starting to look more similar between the two consoles, look at Wolfenstein, Outlast, Destiny and UFC. These games are achieving almost equal parity, and even more so since the June SDK update for Xbox One. There's no point in arguing that on paper, yes of course the PS4 has an advantage with higher specs. Everyone already knows this. But the actual visual quality is becoming closer between the two recently. No big deal, the same thing happened last gen also..

While those facts are all fine and dandy and can't be debated. Yet those facts can be easily ignored. Games are what makes a console good. You can have a powerful system no doubt but have a weak set of games, bad games and of course great games. All 3 of those apply to all 3 systems Wii U included. The better console isn't just reliant on hardware power, but also build quality, games, controller, online infrastructure etc. It all comes down to personal preference, such as which controller you prefer, or if you prefer the highest specs. It is subjective, the same with last gen's console war and every console war before that. I just think that's the way its going to be. For me the Wiiu is the best of the new gen consoles in terms of quality games. I own more games on the Wiiu than my Xbox one but this one console is better than the other is pointless. We all have different needs from our technology.

I own a surface 2 and often get people with ipad and android tablets telling me there tablets are better than mine but for the things I use my surface for the ipad and android tablets can't match. But for me I don't care if its the best or not that's just the world we live in now. Everyone wants to be cool and have the next cool thing. It is sad really but that is the world we live in now.

Consoleslateagain yeah it was funny. When I was younger my team mates had me as the geek in the team as I had an Amiga1200 and PSX but most of the people I have kept in touch with now own a games console and pc.

The world is different now and all because of the internet and also simple devices being made too to help the none geeks as they would call them self to get online and its become part of there daily lives. One thing I do find funny though is we have a lot of fighting esp on N4G about how good games look and which console has more power etc but if you look at gaming in general its the simple ones and some of the oldest games going that have been remade or copied that most people are addicted too. Look at the top downloaded android/windows/ios game to see what I mean and then the best selling games on consoles are not the best looking mine craft or COD for example.

For me gaming is now for everyone we and everyone should support the developers of games they want and let others do the same. For me nothing comes close to Nintendo IPs for pure family fun like Mario Kart, Lego city, Wii Party U, game and wario etc. No FPS game on a console comes more fun than Halo etc but this is just me people will say nothing comes colons to BF or KZ or LBP etc.

Gaming is about choice and for me always should be.

As for Nintendo being different I also agree power has never been the reason who a console has sold the most in a generation its all about the games and the way its sold to the customer. Nintendo have had to work hard to get the sales up for the Wiiu as naming it the Wiiu confused customers and its line up at the start was weak.

Microsoft got hit from pillar to post regarding the Xbox one and were giving out mixed messages about the consoles and features.

Sony got it spot on the beginning of this gen and even without any real must own IP's in terms of what sells Sony consoles its hit the ground running form the media to developers to how it was marketed to the customers.

That said its easy to get things wrong too look at the PS3 or the PSV Sony really messed up and made mistakes with both theses products but managed to turn the PS3 around in the end and took on board what happened with the PS3 and made sure the mistakes did not happen with the PS4.

Nintendo have been the same with their products too like the 3ds it took 12 months to get the word out that it was not a 3d ds but a new console.

Microsoft are now looking to do the same with the Xbox one but did what a lot of people said was not possible when the announced the Xbox name and that was take a big chunk of Sonya market which they did last gen in the US and UK.

For me though this is good and the world works in cycles. Some one is top for a bit then another company comes along and takes that top spot and the cycle continues and this is good for business and customers too.

PS4 is better if you want consistent 1080p rez and higher framerates, long line of first party devs with really amazing games and superior multiplat games.
XB1 is better if you really like shooters like the 792p monster that is Titanfall, inferior multiplats, great first party lineup of Halo, Sunset OD and Forza Horizon, really good system features and UI options, and last but not least but most important of all things Bone related.... the prospect of the upcoming late 2015 DX12 and the mystery it brings as to wether or not it will help the Bone get closer to the PS4 in terms of performance. This is the question for so many fans as they eagerly await (not like they have much choice...) Until then... let me go play some 792p Titanfall AND 792p Watchdogs!!! I own both and am just being silly here so I hope this didnt offend anyone. Its just games and shouldnt be taken too seriously in the first place. Enjoy them for what they are. Is anyone actually swayed by articles like this? There's no way to declare one objectively better than the other, since entertainment is subjective. The best someone can do is list the features of the consoles, cover their respective libraries, and then leave it up to the consumer to make the final decision.

For me, the PS4 is far better than the XB1, but that's because Sony offers me the exclusive games I prefer. Xbox has never attracted my interest as a gamer, but that doesn't mean that the consoles or its exclusives are bad in any way. Or that people who game on Xbox consoles are 'better' or worse' than me. It just means that I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

Some people like chocolate ice cream. Some like vanilla. Others have completely different tastes but in the end, it's all ice cream.
