EGMR writes: "Destiny is that game that all gamers are collectively wanking to because Bungie is making Halo-Borderlands. Jokes aside, I had some positive words for Destiny back when I wrote about the alpha, which wasn’t actually an alpha, but now the beta is also on Xbox One so unfortunately I have to hate on it. Anyway I figured that since everybody out there is either playing or reading about the beta and I myself have written extensively about the alpha, there’s little reason to rehash all of that in a very long article. Especially since the beta is more or less the alpha with some more stuff. Instead, I will focus entirely on comparing the game’s resolution and frame rate on PS4 and Xbox One, because that’s all any master race console gamer on the internet actually cares about.
"Obviously, I’m joking. I think. So what I will do is cover the main points of what’s good, bad and lacking in Destiny, seeing as how I’ve played enough hours of the game over the course of the alpha and the beta that I could have, well, finished a whole other game. Or rethought my life. Ready then? Let’s do this. Keep in mind that I won’t be mentioning things I’ve already said in my alpha write-up, because I don’t need to praise something twice, and I want to discuss Destiny rather than do some PR for it."
Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.
That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it
For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.
In Episode 1 of Spot On, a new weekly news show, Gamespot talks about the dangers of chasing a trend.
Playing Destiny 1 on PC has been something fans have been requesting for years. It looks like Destiny 1 is now playable on PC via the RPCS3 emulator.
In the lacking things, the author mentioned 'There are bounties in the game for pulling off challenges, which you have to actively take on, but there are no team awards (like MVP or something) or individual badges or acknowledgement for any feat.' However, I have actually had badges pop up from time to time. I know I got a medic badge when I revived both of my fireteam partners back to back, and there might have been others that I am not remembering. However, it would be nice if there were more, and maybe if we could see them after the match/round/mission so everyone can see what everyone did, beyond just kills and captures (in mp).
I agree almost completely with the authors comments. Right now, in Beta, the game lacks the personality of Halo. That does not mean that the final version will be lacking, we will just have to wait and see. The weapons do feel very similar, all bullet style guns so far. I do feel the classes offer some welcome variety, but the class leaders are very static and stale.
For me it feels more like a pack of smaller maps. I want a very big map for each planet that I can roam and missions appear there from time to time. You meet merchants on your ways. Also events or you get an surprise attack... it just feels like flying from one mission to the next... don't know. Wish it would be more Fallout with elements of Halo & Borderlands...
"Peter Dinklage’s voice work has been significantly improved"
No it hasn't...it's just a voice effect, hiding the problem. Not fixing it.
I think for me the lacking part is the customization to your character. Very few choices to choose from, in a game like this people like their character to try and represent them. I hate when you get weird hairstyles but normal ones are never there.
