Make no mistake, if you purchased a next-gen console, whether Xbox One or PlayStation 4, you made a good purchase. Both machines are highly capable of bringing video game entertainment to even the most dedicated gamer. However, now that some time has passed, there is a better decision to be made between the two consoles. Granted, both consoles are remarkably similar and your brand loyalty will play a bigger role in making a decision than anything else, but if you are still on the fence, consider the following.

Yes, you're right, we act like monkeys, and comparing the consoles is like comparing apples and oranges, and are bananas to one monkey, poop to the other. So while one monkey throws what they see as bananas at another monkey they think is eating poop, they're actually just throwing what appears as poop to another monkey.

Admittedly I have thrown some poop in my day, from both sides. But I think the industry will only be hurt when people mistake competition for a "war", and argue in circles.

XB1 is better because it has more games, more exclusives, dedicated server for all games, faster download speed, better infrastructure, more features, more apps, better blu ray support, better controller more durable and longer lasting battery. Home media integration is better with Xbox Glass. I could go on forever.

Your claims that X1 has more games and more exclusives is just flat out wrong. There are a total of 278 PS4 games currently available compared to X1's 236. The exclusives totals are as follows (all according to each console's respective Wikipedia page, by the way):

PS4:
28 exclusive
22 Sony-exclusive
77 console-exclusive

X1:
32 exclusive
14 Microsoft-exclusive
21 console-exclusive

So, while Microsoft has a slight edge in terms of "true exclusives", the totals aren't even close.

As for the rest of your claims, they were nothing but opinionated garbage. "Dedicated servers, faster connections, better controllers" blah blah blah. Nothing prove-able whatsoever.

Objectively the PS4 would win but subjectively, its completely open to preference. This is because technical prowess is only one of many different considerations. I personally believe that the issue Microsoft will face is being different enough. Thats how they would win a subjective battle. You don't want to be seen as another PS4.

You misunderstand. Pure objectivity would be to treat both consoles like graphics cards and benchmark them. In this case there is no subjective references (game preference, online community, controller preference, PR influence) and an answer could be reached of which console is the "better" buy. The PS4 would win by the laws of physics alone.

But in reality, most decisions are subjective. This is the only place where Microsoft can make a stand.

If it is entirely based on the best console for multiplatform gaming, then yes, the PS4 is the best choice. Otherwise, it really depends on the exclusives you want. Sony and Nintendo have proven to have very well-rated exclusives generation after generation.

OT: For me, right now the PS4 IS the better buy. The X1 will eventually release the two games I want most from it (Gears 4/Quantum Break), but until then, stuff like The Order: 1886, Bloodbourne, and DRIVECLUB will all release by March, making the decision easier.

That being said, i stick with playstation because of games like god of war and uncharted. Not the biggest fan of the fps and i feel MS console caters way too much to fps crowd and call of duty and not so much other genres. MS early in xbox 360 generation did great job securing excellent 3rd party exclusives especially early on. Bioshock, mass effect, dead rising, crackdown, these were all great titles and only ONE fps if i am not mistaking. Towards the end of the generation though as ms was content with their lead it seems they got lazy and all we got was call of duty dlc dis and dat. But they were nice enough to toss Alan wake at us though.

MS needs to get back to the drawing board securing great exclusives that really push the game industry like mass effect and bioshock did

Well, #3 is subjective. Sure, my XBO controller uses AA batteries. I have several sets of batteries in a charger. When a set dies, I switch them out, I don't have to stop gaming to charge the controller.

I personally like the XBO controller's feel better, also... like I said, subjective not fact.

I have a PS4 and I like the layout of the controller but the material is definitely cheap. I've had two controllers where the R2 has broken and the battery life is short. I wouldn't mind putting batteries in the X1 controller. It's a little bulky but it's pretty sturdy and I like the springs under the triggers. I find it more comfortable than the Dualshock 4. If I could only find a way to use the X1 controller on PS4..

Meanwhile, back in the real world, as developers got more familiar with the PS3, mulitplats began to reach parity.. the same thing is happening with the Xbox One since a majority of the upcoming titles are announced as having the same resolution and framerates as the PS4 versions.. these tites include Destiny, The Crew, Alien: Isolation, Doom, and more.. so you can be a complete fanboy and ignore complete logic and trends if you want.. good luck with that..

One little flaw in your argument: the PS3 had superior hardware, but it was simply harder to code for.

The X1 has inferior hardware and seems to be a bit more difficult to code for (though it's far more similar this gen).

That sort of parity will be rare this gen with graphically intensive games (not the ones you've listed). Beyond that, the difference in exclusives will likely grow more as the generation goes on.

I'm a little baffled at anyone who just thinks the hardware gap can magically disappear...it doesn't work like that.

I own both consoles and for me they're just as good as each other. Obviously in some aspects one is better than the other in some things but the games that are coming out are fantastic. If you can afford both, get them so you can play amazing games!

Both consoles have their pros and cons. The PS4 is more powerful, has a better and more diverse lineup (seemingly much more indie games), better first party studios, better value with PlayStation Plus, etc. It's pros are almost all game related.

The Xbox One has a more flexible OS, more consistent OS updates, snapping features is a little useful, TV integration can add some value to some people, Kinect has some cool functions and there will be at least a couple decent Kinect games at some point, more stable online infrastructure. The Xbox Ones pros are a little bit of everything.

At the end of the day, these consoles are pretty similar. So while there are individual qualities that each possess it will largely come down to exclusives. To me I think the PS4 will hands down have the best exclusive library, but I don't think somebody is wrong if they prefer Halo/Gears/Forza to everything the PS4 will have. I don't begrudge anyone who prefers the Xbox One.

As long as you make an informed decision, you will likely be happy. That is what gaming is supposed to do for us - make us happy.

IMO Xbone is better than PS4 right now... see it is all subjective. I prefer the current Xbone exclusives and as for the rest of the year I would take Sunset Overdrive, FHorizon2, and Halo MCC over all the exclusives coming to PS4 this year. I look forward to buying a PS4 for next year's exclusives but right now I do not care for what the system offers. Right now I see it as a device that plays my PC indies with an array of exclusives I have very little interest in, I have more interest in the games coming to my PS3. Whether it has higher resolutions and better specs means nothing to me when there are no games on a system that only has that one thing to offer.

To clarify do not think I am calling Infamous (not interested in the genre that much), LBP (I have zero friends on the platform so it is useless to me), TLOU (I played it not even a year ago), or DriveClub (no cars which is why I like racing games) bad. I just am not really interested in them. The only games that got my attention are Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne. As for The Order I am waiting to see how it is received, if get very high critical acclaim then I will definitely be interested.

I don't purchase my game boxes due to ultimate specs, or multiplats. I strictly get them for the exclusive games/content. Over the years there will be plenty of exclusive content to complete each consoles library. My library will simply be compiled of the best of the best. I love gaming period, and no one console can fit the bill due to original content. I disagree with the 360 UI being faster then the Xbones. My 360 used to take about 3 minutes to turn on, it would crash, and freeze lag almost every time I tried to do something. I have wanted to throw the damn thing out the window many, many times. It got worse every major update and it seemed like the thing was just pushed a little past its limit.

I also thought the 360 was to bloated while the Xbone is simple and clean and feels much more personal. However Xbone could use some of the features from the 360 and could use some improvements.

There is no such thing as one console being factually superior to another. It's all a matter of whats important to you and what you prefer. At the end of the day it all comes down to opinions. For example I'll break down mine.

Hardware: PS4>Xbox One (This ones more of a fact)

Current Games Library: PS4<Xbox One (Sony has a history of better exclusives but i think Xbox has the best out right now.)

Controller PS4=Xbox One (Last gen Xbox 360's controller was far superior to the duelshock 3 but Sony closed the gap this gen.)

XBL and PSN: PS4 = Xbox One (Sony has the better free games service but Live has always been more consistent and reliable)

Interface and menus: PS4<Xbox one (Xbox's menu is much more organized, personal and i think gets you where your going quicker)

Those are just some major examples that showcase that this is all based on opinion and preference.

I think we should make it known that having an MMO with an external subscription fee should not be bound by XBL Gold, but I wouldn't put that in a list of reasons to get a PS4 right now. We have yet to play an MMO on XB1 so until then it's all up in the air just use things like the Dashboard Preview program and the forums to let them know, they want your purchase and are quite willing to iterate based on feedback as seen over the past year.

As for the rest, specs are click bait and always use different numbers from anything they can quote, in or out of context the in game difference is like fighting over a nickel on the ground because of "principle", VR isn't an "era approaching" yet remember when Sony made everything 3D for a year or two? Just be smart, be cautious. If anything Sony has been the one reacting to the market it's how they got to this point.

To many, the Xbox One is a better buy.

The facts are that the PS4 is more focused as a pure gaming machine, as evidence by the hardware.

The Xbox One is more of a multimedia hub and it does multitasking beautifully, as shown by the hardware.

Play the dam exclusives you prefer. I prefer Sony exclusives. That is subject to change of course, if SONY elects to continue giving remakes rather than new games.

Time will tell.
