Doom was revealed to counter fears of trouble at id Software, public reveal unlikely this year

It's pretty simple honestly, I'm shocked you haven't worked it out. They have revealed it to most of the gaming journalists and people with fansites etc, they do the fear countering for them.

Seems rather pointless. That some saw an alpha version behind closed doors which may only slightly resemble the finished version.

They doing more harm than good if they don't show anything this year. People will lose interest fast especially with the crazy amount of games coming out this holiday.

john carmack had held back ID software for so long, i am glad he is gone so the studio can actually make some awesome games again. I feel like he has been getting credit for something he did so long ago, his fanboys are legit hardcore and defend him at every turn

Zenimax/Bethesda have treated him with a lot of respect but he hasn't proven his worth in a while.

John Carmack was/is a brilliant man, but as far as game design goes he is archaic and RAGe showed that. Doom3 was awesome, but it took so long to get to get to that step.

I think with the Arrival of Doom (origin?), ID might be working on a middleware engine that IDtech6 which may/may not power the future Fallout games. Usually DOOM is the showrunner of the engine similar to how Unreal Tournament(EPIC studios) and Crysis (cretek).

I think ID moving forward will be great now that they don't have to be under a legend's shadow. They can do their own thing

Was he a designer though? I always thought he was the brains behind the engine and had very little to do with game design.

Yeah, they better at least reveal the game to the public along with a release date before the end of summer if they wanna get a head start on the holiday blockbusters. Waiting any longer than that and pushing it out at a later date like in January or February of next year would suck.

Why show it at all then? Probably because it won't be done for another 5 years and get stuck in development hell like Doom 4.

Wow! That's probably the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. So a game that's been in development for 6 years still isn't ready to be demo'd to the public ... if I thought the project was cancelled and then a year later they announced it with a release date in 6 months, I'd get pumped up in a heartbeat. This "teasing" is just irritating. What's the release date then TBD 2017?

Sorry Bethesda but this little stunt only proves that iD is indeed in trouble.. There were industry journalists at QuakeCon and yet they're not allowed to show us anything on "Doom".

My guess, iD had a 'Doom' but when Bethesda saw it, they scrapped it and started again, this is why we won't be seeing this new "Doom" until 2016 or maybe even later.

I remember when the alpha demo of doom 3 "leaked" to the public and we were able to download and play it. Was only 1 level but it was awesome.

Would be great if it happens again. I think it's good PR.
