Sony is Making a Heavenly Sword Movie, But Does Anyone Care?

Ray Porreca of Entertainment Buddha writes: "For those unaware, the Heavenly Sword film is being handled by Cinedigm, and is set for a September 2, 2014 release. A recent trailer showcased the film’s animation, which certainly captured the essence of the game, but still looked remarkably dated."

I for one do not. Never even played the game though.

NukaCola3569d ago

It's a really good game. Too short but a great cinematic experience with very very impressive acting and dialog.

morganfell3569d ago

I have heard that time argument before and it didn't line up for me. The vindictive press made an issue of it so I timed my playthrough. I played through the game with my usually 'investigate everything' and it took me 11hrs and 7 minutes. Coincidentally because of the barking, I played solo through HALO 3 which was also released in Spetember that same year. I played on Heroic because that is the elvel where damage and weapons effects most closely mimic the book. It took me 10hrs and 42 minutes.

It may all come down to playstyle but I do not buy the times listed for any game on any platform that are posted by most review sites. With all the DLC I have over 200 hours in Skyrim and still have yet to finish and that is just the PS3 version. I also have a considerable amount of time in the PC version.

UnHoly_One3569d ago

Yeah I agree Morganfell.

Play times listed by game devs or reviews NEVER line up with my play style.

I'm always over their times, sometimes as much as double, or even more. lol

NukaCola3569d ago

I played through it in 6 and a half hours. I thought it was a complete experience but I wanted more. I do agree that game play length listed by reviews are completely bogus most of the time. If I had to claim a negative it was this. Also there's a few fights that if you fail the following QTE you need to do it all over again which was pretty annoying but nothing ever set this game back. This was a great opener for the PS3.

So this money could have been spent on a new PS4 or Vita game ?

Becuzisaid3569d ago

Great game but this looks awful

DigitalRaptor3569d ago

I'd care more if they were making a sequel. What's it been 7 years?

A bit too much of a coincidence that they're doing a movie now. The Ratchet & Clank movie is out early 2015 alongside a remake, so I don't believe either Sony or Ninja Theory doesn't have a sequel in the works.

Sony has Uncharted, God of War and Shadow of the Colossus to make films from and they choose Heavenly Sword.. Yeah they have to be up to something.

Cryptcuzz3569d ago

You might be onto something there buddy.
I enjoyed the game and liked the characters enough to watch this movie.

Fullmetalevolust3569d ago

Without any good/solid promotion, I'm afraid that it's not going to do well and as far as I am concerned, it shouldn't affect the possibility of a sequel.
I am more interested in HS2 than a movie.

Angrymorgan3569d ago

Well im guessing they'll release a new game to go with it around the same time so maybe more will care then.
I had the original when it came out..wasnt a big fan of it really.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro41d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7241d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_41d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga41d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2341d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200041d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin41d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole41d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix41d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel198941d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Dante's inferno... an excellent GoW inspired game. So sad the sequels will never be.

LoveSpuds544d ago (Edited 544d ago )

I recall enjoying it well enough at the time, but it wasn't a patch on God of War 3 which came out around the same time I think.

I own it and fired it up on my PS3 about 6 months ago and time hadn't been particularly kind to it although it still very much nailed the atmosphere and it is a cool as he'll setting and universe.

Inverno544d ago

Dante's Inferno needs the GOW treatment. No cut camera, with a real hellish depiction of the 9 circles and a story as dark and as serious would be amazing.

Yui_Suzumiya544d ago

Still pretty amazing there was a PSP version that was actually pretty good. I remember playing it 10 years ago. I had the PS3 version when it first came out and loved it.

Hellcat2020544d ago

Ahh the memories of playing Heavenly Sword
Such a amazing experience

LoveSpuds544d ago

Yup, I remember being blown away with Heavenly Sword. I remember holding out hope that they would go back and add trophy support as a incentive to go back and replay the game, but I don't think they ever did?

Yui_Suzumiya544d ago

I couldn't beat the final boss though! Spent several days trying but eventually gave up, lol. Still enjoyed it though.

refocusedman544d ago

heavenly sword was such a short, but amazing game. that game should be prime material to be made into a download only remaster.

YoungKingDoran544d ago

I really enjoyed Castlevania, but struggled to get into it again reattempting it a few years back. I still think it does another of things well; story, presentation, level varietily and art style at least. Gameplay maybe has not stood test of time unfortunately which makes it a chore to get through.
