Hundreds Of Devs Working On Project Morpheus, "Extremely Positive Feedback" After GDC Reveal

Hundreds of developers are already working on Project Morpheus according to Adam Boyes, and the feedback after GDC was "extremely positive".

Can't decide how I feel about Morpheus, but its nice to know that a lot of people are having the chance to experiment with it. Means there's a better chance there will be something I can get excited about...

I agree with you. VR is a great idea but I still don't see it becoming the next big thing in the home console market. Look forward to seeing more though.

I honestly think that having it paired with a console gives it an advantage that other VR devices don't have. Add the PSCamera and Motion controllers and you can get a pretty cool VR experience because you can look down and hold that golf club/AK47/Lightsaber/whathavey ou in your hand. There still won't be force feedback, but there will be immersion on a scale that can't be matched.

I really think that the benefactors will be makers of games like No Man's Sky: 1st Person Exploratory.

OMG You are absolutely right imagining those epic PS4 getting the VR treatment is just exciting. Imagine Infacmous in VR or even Driveclub in VR but I think that VR games will stick to one or two genres.

I think games like Civ would work.
You could be floating over your world looking down as you control your civilisation.

In fact most game would work, that don't all have to be first person.

First Person view games like FP Shooters, Mirror's Edge, Sonic the Hedgehog 3D, Outlast, FP RPG'S like Skyrim, FP Fighting games like boxing, Minecraft, Driving simulators, Racing, on rails shooters, 3rd person action/ shooters, Myst type of games, Dating Games, PlayStation Move games, Wii Sports, etc etc

will all benefit immensely from VR tech

I think Morpheus will do better because it already has a lineup of games that can be used for it, has motion control that is already in the market.

Rift has decades of potential games ready via modding, many of which are drag and dropping of files for a pretty good experience.

"A lineup such as..." every single First person game that has been released/ will be released for the PS4. But as someone said earlier, that could also go for 3rd person and there is no reason many of the 3rd person games could be employed.

No potential games here. Though, if a dev company was smart they would develop for both.

The point is: Morpheus already has titles for it.

I think Rift will be more expensive, but I don't have any indication which will be better at this stage.

It could be that the closer they are performance-wise, the better for the VR element of the industry, so I don't really want one to be better than the other.

This seems all to be based on the oculus rift hype then their own research, it's a huge gamble putting a vr headset into the living room environment as it's a very different environment to the pcs "bedroom" type location. Could go either way really, but when people object to wearing sunglasses for 3d in that environment how are they going to react to putting that thing on? Never mind having people walking around looking at you while you do your thing in virtual space, it would make for some funny YouTube clips though.

I think the thing people are forgetting is that the PS4 is a small, relatively lightweight item that could easily be moved from the living room to another room...you don't even need a TV in that room with Morpheus.

Personally, I will probably use Morpheus in my bedroom, and probably use a Playstation TV to remote play my PS4 in the living room.

I hope this does well but my faith in Playstation add ons is almost at zero percent. I loved the move, I think it was the best set up vs the wii and the kinect but there was almost zero support from it.

That's just not true. There was almost zero advertising for it though, sadly.

Support was plentiful, with even mainstream games like Resistance, Heavy Rain and Killzone supporting it very effectively. Shooters with the gun housing were vastly more fun, in my opinion.

I agree I had the sharp shooter and I thought Killzone with that was about perfect. I also love the sports game to show what it could do IE the gladiator style game with two move controllers was amazing. but it pretty much ended there, some game supported it but poorly. I'm saying is they had the best of the best and it didn't amount to a whole lot of anything.

Move was created in response to the Wii (and Kinect)...but from the start, they were talking about using it for VR.

I think the Move's biggest impact wasn't in how well or poorly it did as a stand alone product, but it will be remembered for jumpstarting Sony's real VR project!

Even today, if you watch interviews with Oculus, Sony and 3rd party developers, you will see people say that Sony's big advantage is that they already have the control side of things figured out! Oculus is great...but they have nothing like the Move...and indeed, are leaving that work to others to figure out. Sony has a HUGE lead on everyone else because they already had the Move...they just needed the headset.

I see it happen when it happens!
Just because many devs are playing with it does not mean the games won't be canned or the support will drop at a later point...

I hope it will have success (if it is proven to be great) but I can't imagine cashing out money for a device that is mainly supported by indie games. Not that indie games are bad. I just want to play Uncharted or an AAA Shooter with that thing. Not only when it is released but also many years after the release date.

Therefore I gonna sit back, let Sony talk sweet things but wait until it's proven to be supported and it really works great.

we don't have to worry about support then, at least at first. Also, earlier on will prolly be small experimental demos and oculus hand-me-downs.
