If Bayo2 can sell well enough, I don't see why Nintendo wouldn't want to help fund another one. That being said, if Nintendo is really serious about this, they better start thinking about marketing the heck out of this game.

Rearden3568d ago

Agree, a lot depends on the success of Bayonetta 2.

JonahNL3568d ago

I think it'll do very well in all regions. The fact that they're including the first Bayonetta for free is just... insane.

gaffyh3568d ago

I don't think it'll sell well at all tbh. It'll be like MadWorld, but might fare a little better than that because it is a sequel. Yes its a good game, but I would guess that most people would be happy to skip it.

bouzebbal3568d ago

exactly! all will depend on B2 success but i think the game will do well.
it's always good to secure a good third party exclusive everyone wants.

DarkZane3568d ago

It won't sell well. The first one was on PS3 and 360 and each of them individually had a bigger install base than the Wii U does at the moment the first game sold poorly.

Even though I have a WiiU, I am not even considering this game, not even if it was 19.99$.

InTheLab3568d ago

I'm curious as to what selling well really means. They sold 2 million on 2 platforms with over 80m units sold, so what could Bayo 2 possibly do on a console that has 6m and a long history of core titles selling poorly?

And I'd like an actual answer please....so tired of phantom disagrees...

gaffyh3568d ago

@InTheLab - Fanboys can't handle the truth. It's just a fact that this won't sell as well as the first game due to the reasons you noted, but also non-Nintendo games don't sell well on Nintendo platforms period. Unless it's some sort of casual gimmick game.

I think sales for this game will be around 300k initially (worldwide), and then probably reach 1 million in lifetime sales if it's lucky. MadWorld only sold around 750k LTD, and launched with an install base of over 50 million.

Concertoine3568d ago (Edited 3568d ago )

@Inthelab

The game sold that much in 2009-2010. The game has received a lot more exposure since then on the controversy of the sequel alone. If a mediocre game like ZombiU can hit 750k than Bayonetta 2 can with good reviews and marketing. It wont be a huge success, but i can see it hitting close to 1 million in its first year. Enough to make its money back, and it caters to an audience previously uncatered to on the system, which gives it potential to move some hardware.

A lot of people said the RE games on gamecube would flop because they were core games not made by nintendo, but they sold pretty well.

InTheLab3568d ago

@Concertoine

Yeah so no one said that about RE on the Cube. That's a bad example as that was the game that persuaded me to buy a GC and I know I'm not alone. That thing won a ton of GoTY awards and still somehow only managed to scrape together 1.5m in sales.

People were shocked by the poor sales. A genre defining 3rd party game of a quality that even Wonderfulmonkeyman can appreciate. I was disappointed more people didn't support the game but that made me realize who Nintendo's primary customer truly is. Mostly children, casuals, and hardcore N fans who are the minority.

Add that to Platinum games track record of selling poorly and I can't say I'm confident there will be enough sales to justify another Bayonetta or one that is exclusive to WiiU.

randomass1713568d ago

You know, Polygon said Mario Kart 8 would only sell 1.2 million units in its lifetime. Some Wii U games could surprise us with their success and who can really say if Bayonetta is or is not one of those games? That's one of the titles that gives consumers incentive to have a Wii U in the first place. I know I'll be buying it. :)

Concertoine3568d ago (Edited 3568d ago )

@Inthelab

You're laughably mistaken when you say kids and casuals make up the bulk of the gamecube. The wii for sure, but the gamecube was largely nintendo fans and gamers. Truth is, people were sick of RE by the time 0 and REmake came out. Now a game like that is refreshing but back then a lot of people felt the series hit a dead end. That it did over a million at all on a small install base is impressive, and back then capcom considered 1 million+ to be a success (evidenced by their goal to make a game with online functionality that hit a million, which was MH). Both games stand toe-to-toe with some of nintendo's own games in terms of sales with RE4 being one of the best selling games on the system.

I doubt they'll make another bayonetta, but i still think Bayonetta 2 will be a worthwhile investment for nintendo. If not financially, for the additional hardcore game to invite a new audience and the positive feedback from hardcore bayonetta fans like myself who thought theyd never see the sequel.

N4g_null3567d ago

It really depends on if the game is fun or not. Res evil wii version did pretty well.

I skipped Bayo simply because of the frame rate issues and they fighting didn't seem fun. I'm really liking what I've seen so far of bayo2 and Bayo 1 with everything fixed should be fun...

Plus it is getting full dlc possibly at no cost. So we are getting a hd remake for free... and the sequel and dlc... you can't beat that. Then hyrul warriors and x soon after.

Chrischi19883567d ago

You guys miss the actual point here. It is an IP with a big fanbase. An IP which is exclusive to the Wii U, other 3rd Parties dont sell as good on Wii U for obvious reasons, like bad ports, worse graphics and stuff like that, but this is no multiplat title. It is also not comparable to W101, because it is an already existing franchise.

Then there is also room for improvement for the sequel, just because the first one did not sell as well, doesnt mean they did not change the game on the important parts.

Then you also dont have as many games to choose from as a Wii U owner, at least in that genre, which will make sales even higher.

You all miss these aspects, which hold more ground in my eyes.

They can sort of gauge how well this game is going to do by the preorder numbers which are most likely pretty high after that great E3 showing.

ritsuka6663568d ago

This game wouldn't even be on any console if it weren't for Nintendo. True gamers should be happy it showed up on any console considering it wouldn't even be there at all otherwise.

Kane223568d ago

lol "true gamers" what is that be the way.......

OpieWinston3568d ago

Fanboys will be bitter about it all.

Platinum games model is amazing, getting this BS Console war to fund their games.

Nintendo/MS will fund Bayonetta/Scalebound

Lets see if they make a deal with Sony.

Considering Wii U will have enough units to push a good chunk of Bayo 2 sales I have faith that'll continue.

By the time Scalebound launches it'll probably sell well with Tier 2/3 X1 countries opened for it.

Platinum Games is really laughing at Capcom right now.

2pacalypsenow3568d ago

bayonetta sold little over 2 million on both 360 and ps3 with over 100mil install base put together i doubt this game will sell well only on wii u

Kennytaur3568d ago

I live in one of those "tier 2" countries, and the Xbox is widely available at stores. Retailers import it from other regions.

iamnsuperman3568d ago (Edited 3568d ago )

If it sells (especially Wii Us) sure. That would be a safe bet. If it doesn't I doubt Nintendo will invest in a sequel. This is Bayonetta's last chance as an ip. Nintendo seem to be the only ones willing to invest at the moment (hence exclusivity) because it didn't do spectacular numbers with Bayonetta

BattleN3568d ago

If it wasn't so weird I'd buy it but it does look cool!

MNGamer-N3567d ago

How do you know you won't like it until you buy it and try it? That's what you should do.

MrSec843568d ago

At least Platinum have made the prospects for the game a little better by making it a great value package, with both games being in the box.

Around 2 million people bought the 1st game on PS3 & 360, so while it's not a huge IP it has the potential to do reasonable numbers.

We'll see once it releases.
The game looks nice though, but it is one of those niche titles.

It's good that Nintendo's getting some more mature games & adding to the diversity of their library of exclusives.

Gamercore3568d ago

That's a lot of ifs. Hoping Bayonetta 2 does well enough to warrant a sequel, but I'm not sure if the Wii U is the right system to get the job done (sales wise).

MilkMan3568d ago (Edited 3568d ago )

Lets see how part 2 sells first shall we?

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3568d ago

doesn't matter if doesn't sell big numbers as long as it meet Nintendo expectation which are low for games that are new.

MilkMan3567d ago

I didn't know that about Nintendo. Is this policy?
