How strong exactly is PlayStation's 2014 line-up?

Sony's president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida has spoken about the importance of third-party games such as Destiny as well as PS3 remasters like The Last of Us Remastered in the PlayStation's line-up towards the end of 2014, as well as the importance of new audiences the PlayStation 4 has found.

Sony's lineup has been pale in comparison since next gen started

They are trying to deceive the masses into thinking Destiny is exclusive

The games that are coming out look more like tech demos while all the fun to be had is on Xbox One

Titanfall, K.I season 2, Sunset Overdrive, Halo: MCC, Ori and the Blind Forest Forza Horizon 2, Project Spark... Sony didn't show up 2013 or this year

oODEADPOOLOo3572d ago

A Sony article woudlnt be the same without this guy.

LittleBigPlanet 3 and DriveClub are among my most anticipated games this year (LBP3 being #1). I'm also looking forward to trying out PlanetSide 2. That alone makes it have a very solid first party line-up.

That with all the multiplats on PS4 and The Last of Us Remastered this month has me all set and more than satisfied as I wait for 2015 and all it's huge releases

CJDUNCAN3572d ago

In this article they are trying to make it seem like Destiny is a PS4 exclusive, which isn't the case at all. And I see they are really going to push TLOU. That should bring a lot of new fans to the series hopefully, but that's about it exclusive wise except LBP3 and Drive Club.

I don't understand the hype with what Microsoft will be offering honestly. The only game I'm looking forward to for the rest of the year is AC:Unity.

2014 has been a dud when it comes to games so far, too many delays for 2015 which inevitably mean some 2015 games will be pushed back to 2016.

-Foxtrot3572d ago

Your forgetting that Microsoft didn't half most of their developers working on stuff for the 360 in 2013 and most of 2012.

The biggest game in 2013, or only big game from Microsoft was Gears of War Judgement. Sony had lots of devs working on games that released in 2013, even one or two which released the same time or after the PS4 was released.

Death3572d ago

Sony has close to 20 first party studios and quite a few second parties they deal with exclusively. I'm pretty sure the PS4 was in development for atleast a few weeks before lauch which would have given Sony's first parties time to make content for the system. It's amusing to see people that think Sony's first parties were caught off guard with the PS4's release.

Development has most likely been scaled back to reduce losses prior to the fiscal year closing. Not only were the studios quiet, they were also restructured with some being shut down completely. Sony's indie push is a result of this. Without the money to make triple A games, remakes and indies have been filling the release schedule. With the success of the PS4 this far, game development should start to ramp back up. My only fear is Sony dumping money into other projects like Morpheus and PSNow instead of content for the PS4 and Vita.

ravinash3572d ago

I keep think back to 360 how all those timed exclusives and ads for multiplats with the Xbox logo popping up at the end of it.

These are all tricks that MS brought to the table and now your annoyed that sony has started to use them too?

jackanderson19853572d ago

you realise Sony did the same thing in regards the ads last gen yeah? it's common business practice

ravinash3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

I do indeed.
It's business, so no point crying over how a company is somehow "deceiving the masses". It's just advertising.

KinjoTakemura3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

@lifeisgamesok

You are one of a kind and I do not mean that in a good way.

MysticStrummer3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

"They are trying to deceive the masses into thinking Destiny is exclusive"

How so? MS and Sony both ran multi plat commercials with only one of their logos last generation.

You may think all the fun to be had is on XB1, but apparently more people want what PS4 offers. Think about that while you look up the word opinion.

zsquaresoff3572d ago

Yet there are more Ps4's out there than Xbone's.

Its too bad nobody shares your thinking, otherwise Xbone would be the leading console right now and not languishing behind Sony and Nintendo.

Bigpappy3572d ago

Correct. There are zero Xbones out there.

snookiegamer3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

@lifeisgamesok

Yup, whatever makes you feel better pal. Actually I'm glad you commented 1st. Now everyone can see how much you love trolling...didn't you invite your chums?

Drive Club is more anticipated by PS4 gamers here, than any of the games you listed.

Know why?..'COS IT'S A PS4 ARTICLE BUD!

jon3sy93572d ago

As for the DriveClub vids. It looks beautiful. The rain and trees are gorgeous. However, there's no way in hell I'd pay for a racing game that doesn't have car physics damage that affects gameplay, NO CUSTOMIZATION, 50 cars at launch (yes Sony's gonna milk the DLC, pathetic), and 30fps on a confined racing road?! Helll no! I was willing to give them the 30fps over 60 (which is tough considering it's on confined road), but no way in hell without any of those features.

DC looks one notch better than FH2, but not at that expense (physics damage and 30fps on road, customization etc). Hells no! Lol. I buy games for graphics AND depth. Now if DC had those features and physics, I'd be mad impressed. But FH2 is looking like the truth imo.

That's bugging me man. It's like Sony's selling great graphics for sales at the expense of pretty much everything. Lol. Infamous (5-15 npcs on screen), The Order (corridors with 7 or so characters), DriveClub (well yeah lol), all focus on graphics at the expense of more open, dynamic worlds and npcs. Not hating on Sony's first parties but dam that's why I've no excitement for owning a PS4 yet. Uncharted this, God of War that.........way too scripted for me man! Like games for adolescents or teens lol.

Haxamin3572d ago

Its gone up to the point that having to write full impartial lists of PS4 games for people like you and truefan, has ended up being redundant, simply because you put your fanboyism above your reasoning.
but oh well here we go:
Infamous Second Son, MLB 14,Guilty Gear Xrd, Last of Us Remastered, Planetside 2, LittleBigPlanet 3, Driveclub, Deep down, Helldivers, Rime, H1Z1, Everquest, Resogun, Bloodborne, Let it Die, etc, as well as all unnanounced games being developed in all of sony's worldwide studios.

Bennibop3572d ago

You forgot ff xiv and motogp 14

Hellsvacancy3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

What will be your excuse next year, and the year after etc?

insomnium23572d ago

It will be "quality over quantity". W've seen this already with 7th gen.

grassyknoll3572d ago

Not to do list wars but PS4 has Planetside 2, LBP 3, Drive Club, The Last of Us, Guilty Gear, Hotline Miami 2, Helldivers, N+++, Not a Hero & Galak Z, Deep Down all out before Xmas & Bloodborne and The Order before the end of the Financial year. You're not looking for PS4 games hard enough (most likely don't want to because of your cognitive dissonance).

VforVideogames3572d ago

True there is not that much to talk about when it comes to games on ps4 one or two may be worth but the rest is blah and that's for the rest of the whole year.

S2Killinit3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

@lifeisgamesok
I'm tired of trying to correct people like you. So without delving too deep in an explanation that will surely go right over your rationality limits, I'm just gonna go ahead and say it: PS4 HAS MORE GAMES. PERIOD.

this year, next year, both years, in the future, in the past. doesn't matter, they have more games in every single category you want to twist this.

izumo_lee3572d ago

'They are trying to deceive the masses into thinking Destiny is exclusive'

Oh really? Just like how Microsoft makes everyone think that COD is only on their system with all the ads they run. Or when Final Fantasy 13 was released that it only appeared on the 360 with those ads. Heck it even used PS3 footage for those ads.

It goes both ways buddy.

You may brag about Microsofts 2014 lineup which i admit is very good. However if i recall the 360 had all those early years of good releases than all of a sudden nothing. While the PS3 continued to release major 1st party games & still do.

AngelicIceDiamond3572d ago

There will be plenty to play on PS4 this holiday when you count in all the indies and multiplats.

But this is the thing.

2 or 3 years ago the argument here was AAA was the only thing that counts and nothing else indies wasn't the talk and surprisingly Arcade games generally got shafted.

This here is when MS had a small choosing when it came to exclusives.

http://n4g.com/news/926640/...

If you scroll down just a little bit you'll see the argument is different. Some are arguing games are games doesn't matter if they're exclusive or not gamers will still have fun.

The ones that said that got mostly disagreed.

This is Evil Deads comment: "In 2011, all they could say was the 360 didn't have any exclusives. But, when you point out the exclusives that were released they say Kinect, XBL, and Halo Anniversary doesnt count."

Remasters and XBL didn't count according to the community here I remember like it was yesterday.

fast forward today they suddenly count. Remasters and Indies, multiplats suddenly matter to a certain fanbase

Like I said the generally feeling back then was exclusives ran the world and anything less was considered lame here.

Everyone should look through there it has everything the goal posting was much different just a short 2 3 years ago.

With that said its not like PS4 has nothing like 360 did for a few years. All the PS4 exclusives will be out next year with Drive Club, LBP3 and TLOUS coming this year.

Its just fuuny to see Sony talk about Destiny and hype up other third party games and suddenly its a cool thing but when MS does its a horrible thing.

ger23963572d ago

Weakest of the three consoles.

ravinash3572d ago

You mean between PS3, Vita and PS4...well maybe, but it all goes back to the same company :-p

mcstorm3572d ago

@ApolloAdams for me it all depends on what games you like. Its said the best game if last year was GTAV but I don't like GTA games so for me it was not the best game of last year for me it was Pikmin 3.

For me the xbox one has the most games between now and the end of the year as I want KI Season 2, Forza Horizon 2, Sunset over drive and Halo Collection and Project Cars.

The WiiU I want Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros.

And the PS4 I want DriverClub.

But that dose not mean the Xbox one has the best lineup or I think the PS4 has the worst line up its just the games I want.

mcstorm3572d ago

How have I got 5 disagrees? Someone care to tell me why they disagree?

kingdom183572d ago

I can think of two reason why you got disagrees maybe, one you didn't like GTA, two you made a calm and rational comment.

Personally I'm most interested in multiplats, like Shadow of Mordor, AC Unity. But I'm also very interested in Tales of Xilla 2 for the PS3 and Tales of Hearts R for the Vita.

mcstorm3572d ago

But its my choice to not like GTA just like its peoples choice to like it.
This site is really getting daft now. There was no hate in my comment just my reason for liking x games and not liking x games.

Provolone243572d ago

lol weakest of the three? In what sense? Most of Nintendo's heavy-hitters aren't until 2015, either. Microsoft is doing the same thing they did last year. They're putting pretty much everything on the table at once and we see how that went for them. They boasted about all the exclusives they had coming to X1 and none of them were that great. Not even Titanfall pushed sales the way they'd hoped for.

Saryk3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

Eventually console makers will have their online store with previous titles, plus you can buy what you want at release. This will kill the brick and mortar stores. But it will drop prices and keep console games backward compatible for a long time. I can see all gaming being digital in 5 years, max. And this will keep the new console blues from happening again.

MysticStrummer3572d ago

"I can see all gaming being digital in 5 years, max."

You're hallucinating.

Saryk3572d ago

You're in denial! It's ok, I was also. It will no different when PC done it.

When you get the chance to buy so and so game digital for a fraction of the cost. Then you will have a library on your account. Then you'll see.

BillytheBarbarian3572d ago

I must agree. I'm a HDD whore now and have sold off most of my discs for digital versions during sales. I like to take my Xbox to friends houses and it's a lot easier to leave discs at home. Also having kids around I don't have to worry about discs being scratched. Physical media is pointless to hold on to nowadays with all the dlc, micro transactions, and add ons. The value of collecting physical games has gone down the toilet.

KinjoTakemura3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

@Saryk

I'm never buying digital again. There is absolutely no incentive to do so. For example, if there is a PS5 and it only has digital games, what happens when PS6 comes out? Do you actually think that these companies are pushing digital sales because it will benefit you in a significant way? It will actually benefit the video game companies, because if physical copies of games stop being made, Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft would be able to charge us what ever the hell they wanted and if you want their games, you'll have to pay. Image paying full retail price for a game that's a year old. With all digital retail, there won't be any reason for prices to drop. Used copies of video games are what enables gamers to be able to pay 25 or 30 dollars for a game that's 3 to 6 months old. The other reason you shouldn't buy all digital is that once you buy it, you're stuck with it, you can't sell it or trade it!

As for the PS4's lineup, it's more diverse and better rated than the lineup from Xbox One. The PS4 actually has quantity and quality.

fonger083572d ago

This is exactly my point of view too. I mean I have ton of indie games for both the 360 and PS3, does anyone see those being transferred over to the new systems? People like to throw out the mp3 and movie streaming surge, but the games aren't on a universal codec so from system to system you're always in danger of previous digital purchases either lost or made extremely hard to replay.

Saryk3572d ago

Horseshit!I got over 400+ games on my Steam account and that isn’t even including Origin, Gamer’s Gate, Green man gaming, GameFly , Uplay etc. They are not going to shove the shaft in you. What MS going to shove it so you go to Sony? Not going to happen. They will drop their prices and gamer’s will benefit.
Everything that you guys said, I said when the PC went digital. I accepted it and went full STEAM ahead.

KinjoTakemura3572d ago

@Saryk

One question for you.

Those 400 games you have on Steam, can you sell or trade them after you're done with them?

(0_0)

BillytheBarbarian3572d ago

@kinjotakemura:

Have you tried to resell games as of late? Unless you're selling Goty editions, nobody wants old games in need of online updates, add ons, dlc, and most of the online servers are getting shut down making those copies of 2013 EA sports titles even more useless. Online patches for games have also killed value. Also who wants to resell a game to gamestop for $20 after you spent $60?

Keep your games. Go digital and enjoy that collection on the HDD which is less clutter and less waste for earth saving hipsters.

There is no value in physical media post Xbox 360

There's plenty of games to keep me happy this year, no need to rush the exclusives when they're not ready yet. Quality > Quantity.

SaintAlpha1013572d ago

There's not much this year, IMO.
A couple of multi-platform titles.
Hopefully the lineups stronger in 2015, but I'm sure it will be.

I'm really hoping, I did spend £400 in April on a brand-spanking new PS4 and at the moment it's just gathering dust.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC2h ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Friendlygamer3h ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6022h ago(Edited 2h ago)

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me
