Going by the agrees.. it seems like people finally grew some senses. Also you must consider extrapolating the screens on your 55 inch TV. Then you will notice how far back the PS3 version is.

It deserves every award it's been given imo, you can tell a lot of time/effort has gone into crafting it

It is a cutscene and we already see improvements there which wasn't the reason why ND remastered this game. They did it for the gameplay upgrade. They said gameplay will get cutscene treatment which we haven't seen yet. Don't know why they disagreed o.o

This is true I got a ps3 again for this and GTA and just didn't get into this. At the time for me it just didn't live up to the hype. To this day I don't get the fuss but I am going to give it another go as I suspect it was just a case of being deep into GTA the first time around. I find I cannot be deeply into 2 games at once generally.

Holy damn, I envy you. I already played TLOU on the PS3, so I'm not interested on this remaster in the least... but the PS3 version looked bloody gorgeous, so I can't even imagine how great the eyecandy will be on the PS4 version.

Enjoy it, dude. TLOU is quite an enthralling ride. Suffice to say (without spoiling anything) that you will be very hard pressed to find a game with a better narrative than this one, and that's what makes it so good. ^_^

lol, I don't look at any gameplay videos or cutscenes. My only exposure to this game was the original trailer that debuted a long time ago, and then a couple of screen shots here and there.

I loved this game, don't think I will be playing through again on PS4 but in terms of MAJOR GRAPHICS OVERHAUL, I have to disagree, it really only looks like higher resolution (in this particular screenshot)which was a cutscene as well...I wish they would show some side by side actual gameplay.

The tomb raider game had something new to add because they were able to use the upgraded textures that were already in the PC version (except the new face, which was a huge downgrade imo). Also, they weren't even able to achieve perfect 60 fps locked, and in the case of x1, they could only do 30 fps locked.

For TLOU, the graphics were *already* top notch for the ps3 version, so I'm not really that surprised that the ps4 version only looks higher rez in still screenshots. Wait until the game is actually in motion with locked 60 fps and then judge, would be my suggestion.

The cutscenes do look better, as you said. I've been patient and cool with the fact that they haven't shown what I preordered looks like.
However, what does irritate me is all of these cutscenes screenshots recently.

Naughty Dog has been quoted as saying that the graphics for gameplay would be on par with the pre-rendered cutscenes. Which makes sense considering they are in-engine cutscenes and Naughty Dog have talked about how their PS3 engine scales up, ect.

Though I suppose you could look at these cutscene screenshots as evidence of what the *game will look like throughout, which would be great.

I just don't appreciate the way that they've gone about this, that's all.

The fanboy hype on this is off the charts. There is no major graphics overhual just increase in details and resolution. You can get this change in any PC game by changing the settings from low to max and watch the AMAZING $60 overhaul happen right in front of your eyes in no more than 5 seconds.

What's happening here is that ND is using the textures and art assets they already had when they developed the game. The ones that they didn't have to ruthlessly down grade to make the game run on an ancient 7 years old console.

I'll be buying this anyway since I skipped it with the ps4 right around the corner. In fact I didn't bother playing a ton of games in 2013, in light of the remastered generation that is upon us, I made a brilliant money saving choice.

Well it might just seem it because it's compared to the ps4 version. I wouldn't be surprised if it was that blurry. The jump from 720 to 1080 usually brings that type if jump in clearity.

Those were already using high-fidelity assets and are pre-rendered. You're not going to see a huge difference on them. It's the gameplay you should be looking at to judge the differences on, cause that is where they will be most impactful.

The Last Of Us sold about 6 million copies so, there's obviously a huge user base that never played the game. The phrase 'cash grab' implies rip off. It's also a taken from a pre-rendered cutscene. Naughty Dog was already using high-fidelity assets on those PS3 cutscenes, so that is not where you're going to see the most significant of the upgrades.

Cutscenes will be sharper, but gameplay will be the true differentiator and much, much cleaner than the PS3 version.

I will say this... their is a graphical upgrade but "major graphics overhaul" seems to be a bit of a stretch. I mean looking at those two images I see two improvements clearly: A sharpness to all images on the PS4 version, their PS3 shot is just blurry and a bit muddy (and to be honest I dont recall the game looking that bad). And a richness to the colors ...blacks are deeper, colors more vibrant and pop. Outside of that...I don't get some sense of "major overhaul".

I mean really looking at those images you could have said this was really just the PS3 version with a calibrated TV vs a Non-calibrated TV and I probably would have believed you.

Naughty Dog used the highest-fidelity assets in the cutscenes on the PS3 version, so those are not going to improve other than looking sharper and made to run at 60fps. So… What else have they done for the game in regards to gameplay? Well for starters, it runs at DOUBLE the frame rate.

It also outputs at DOUBLE the resolution. They've significantly improved lighting shadows, textures, improved anti-aliasing and character models. You remember those poor textures you saw in the environments cause of the compression they needed to apply? You remember the jaggies from the PS3 version? Remember the character models, especially the faces when you zoom the camera in?

The Last of Us is a stunning game, but it's not completely clean of artefacts. All of that will be greatly improved. http://www.polygon.com/2014...

Doubled frame rate and resolution I believe, as far as how much in-game assets, textures, models have been bumped IDK.

Everything else has to be experienced through a controller to appreciate.

The PS3 picture was clearly lower resolution than the PS3 version, and looks washed out.

The cutscenes also have the least graphical upgrades because the PS3 version upscaled character models some in the cutscenes. In the PS4 version they use the same models throughout and the gameplay has much more graphical impact to compare. It is below amateur to post articles like this.. and yet the guy is getting paid for it, when several people on this site alone can do better. You should hardly have to deal with generic articles let alone ones like this that are half-arsed just to get their pay per article.
