PlayStation Boss: Project Morpheus 'definitely more than an experiment'

VRFocus - Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has shown a strong commitment to the Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) headset in its short life time. That said, questions were raised over if the company would actually release the device recently when president and CEO of SCE Europe stated that its release was still a matter of 'if' and not when. Now SCE CEO Andrew House has restored a little more faith in a consumer release, stating that the device is 'definitely more than an experiment'.

Its obviously not an experiment, but I think its possible they will say the tech isnt their yet or something when it ends up costing $200-$300. I think they might just wait till PS5 to release it

The tech seems to be impressive to the people who have been lucky enough to try it, Morpheus is the first proper steps into VR over time it will grow the same way consoles have.

Morpheus seems a great beginning and PC and PS4 gamers have a new exciting tech heading there way, I'll be jumping in for sure.

@60FramesPerSecond it's doubtful it will be released with Sony's next console. It's already been demonstrated with the PS4 and DualShock. If I had to guess it would most likely be a mid/late 2015 release at $399.

$399?!?! That would be like buying a whole new system! I donth think sony would release a project at such a high price. Expensive attachments have never ended well for companies

It better be, otherwise I'm hanging on to my Move controls for nothing...

jnemesh3585d ago

I'm just glad I will still have a use for them! They have been collecting dust since I first got them...it only took me a week to decide that it wasn't quite ready yet...

That being said...I am VERY excited to see how well Move works with Morpheus! And as long as the headset doesn't cost over $400, I am there buying one on day one!

mydyingparadiselost3585d ago

I bought mine for House of the Dead overkill and Dead Space Extraction, got a little more use when Okami came out and haven't been touched since.
I'm really looking forward to getting some use out of them with the Morpheus, all the hand motion stuff I've seen using Move is amazing, it should open up for a lot more gameplay possibilities if it's used right.

Considering the DS4 was built from the ground up with the light, it's obviously been planned from the outset. If Morpheus doesn't release, it would be a hell of a waste in terms of R+D and manufacturing costs

Virtual Reality won't be visually appealing until HMD's reach 1600p or higher. I wouldn't mind the visuals of an Xbox360/PS3 game in VR, if it was 1600p or 4K.

I can finally play Half Life Alyx.

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts33d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos33d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts33d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
