The Ultimate Next-Gen Console Combo: PS4 And...Wii U?

If you could only pick two consoles this generation, which two would they be? A case can be made for a PS4/Wii U tandem, which would ensure variety.

At this point id pick Xb1/ps4. hate my wii u. smash bros is really only thing i want from it now. If u love wii u games, id say its ps4/wii u unlike u like xbox franchises

mikeslemonade3579d ago

PS4 now and then get a X1 when phantom dust comes out. Don't get WiiU because Nintendo deserves rot after making a debacle of a system, the Wii1.

Hellsvacancy3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

"Nintendo deserves rot" yet you'd support Micro$oft?

Come on man you can't be real, give Nintendo a break, they've attributed far more positive things for us gamers than MS ever has, MS makes the same mistakes every gen then wonder why their console ends up in last place

I won't buy A Wii U for myself for the same reasons I doubt i'll ever purchase a XB1, there's no games of interest for me, I will however buy a Wii U for my daughter at some point, she loves Mario

wheresmymonkey3579d ago

Just out of interest what was wrong with the Wii?

punctualdork3579d ago

Haha. Oh, mikeslemonade. I love your comments on every Wii U article. No biases whatsoever.

Chrischi19883579d ago

Wii U and PS4 or Xbox1. PS4 and Xbox1 offer to many of the same, so it is only about 2 exclusives, you might like more on one plattform, but Wii U offers experiences, you cant get anywhere else.

@punctualdork:

That is why he only has 1 bubble^^

Ballsack3579d ago

Wii u in my opinion is not the greatest console but will have some of the greatest games.... Once the price drops again I'm all for it

Nintendo need to really get their act together for their next console though just to garner that third party support

Apex133579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

@mikeslemonade

Grow up and take a chill pill.

You clearly are demonstrating why console wars should be for responsible adults only.

Such childish comments is what will damage this industry.

Spookshow3579d ago

@ Hellsvacancy

Your daughter loves Mario and you haven't bought her a WiiU yet? What are you waiting for, for it to be free?

OT: I don't understand MS fans hating on Nintendo, you do remember the BS policies they tried to push on all of us, right? If Sony and Nintendo had not stand their ground only God knows where we'd be...(on Steam!)

choujij3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

My Wii-U and PS4 next gen combo is working great for me in addition to my gaming PC.

I will be revisiting the idea of buying Xbone in 2015. However, one thing I plan on waiting and seeing this time is how many x1 exclusives begin making their way over to PC. If Quantum Break is going to make it's way over like Alan Wake did, I'll probably pass on the console all together (which would be a first for me).

Spookshow

My daughter's only 6, she's still got Mario Galaxy 2 and Minecraft (ps3) to finish off

It'll be a nice treat for her at Xmas

Locknuts3578d ago

The Wii sucked balls, but the Wii U is pretty great really. I was a hater too until I tried it.

As of right now my combo is PS3/4 and Wii U, will be getting a X1 later this year. I also have both the Vita and 3DS.

Madock3579d ago

A gaming PC and a WiiU!!
It's def the way to go!

OldDude3579d ago

I agree, PS4 and X1 are both fine for exclusives, but PC has far more exclusives anyway and visuals that the consoles simply cant match. While PS4 owners (myself included until recently, I sold it) are bragging about 1080p, those of us with high end PC rigs are talking about 4k. That's what happens when your console has laptop CPU's and older GPGPU's and 5400rpm hard drives, they were obsolete out of the box.

Its a joke that 1080p/60 is still a high water mark for current gen consoles (yes PS4 and X1 are current gen, not next), it should have been a given and they should not have been released until they could build a box that achieves 1080/60 for a reasonable price. This will be a short generation.

Yup, neither of which require a subscription to play online.

JBSleek3579d ago

Well it said if you had to choice two.

wonderfulmonkeyman3579d ago

Well, ignore his handheld selections and you've got his answer.

My group stems back from childhood.
NES, Master System
Genesis/SegaCD/32x, SNES
PSX, Saturn, N64
Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox & GC
Xbox 360, Wii, PS3
Wii-U, PS4, PC.

GBA SP, DS, 3DS XL, PSP & PS Vita (bought last week)

Over the years, it really adds up. XD

JBSleek3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PC.

But if I only could choice two it would be PC and Wii U.

Honorable mention: iPad Air

Alsybub3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

Your comment made me think, if I could only choose two then it would also be PC and Wii U. I actually don't game on a PC these days but that's because owning so many consoles gives me more than enough to play. As soon as that is restricted to two my mind goes to PC. Interesting.

I currently have connected to my TV:-

PS3
Xbox 360
Xbox One
Wii U
Handheld wise I have 3DS, Android tablet and android phone.

Soon I will add a PS4.

Not connected I have:-

NES
SNES x2
Commodore 64
ZX81
N64 x3
GameCube x2
Panasonic Q
Panasonic 3DO
PS1
PS2 x3
PS3 FAT JP 60GB
Genesis
SEGA CD
32X
Saturn x3 (UK, US, JP)
Dreamcast x3 (UK, US, JP)
Neo Geo
Virtual Boy
Xbox x 6 (Rare Japanese LEs)
Xbox 360 x3
Gameboy
Gameboy Advance
Gameboy Advance SP
Neo Geo Pocket
Gizmondo
Nintendo DS
Nintendo DS Lite x2
PSP x2
Atari Jaguar
and more that I simply can't remember.

Make me choose two and one of those is a PC with emulators for all of the above.

JBSleek3579d ago

PC is the best place to play mulch-platform games and are the only place to really play RTS and MOBA.

Also PC is very versatile in which you can have a controller and play it like a console. An easy choice.

Also Wii U is the only place to play my favorites such as Super Smash Bros and Mario games and Zelda. Those exclusives are the most unique and always high rated. Nintendo doesn't make crappy games.

Easy choice. At least for me.

iPad for mobile gaming.

Hanuman3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

Thanks for sharing that with us! Your collection is awesome. Must have a lot of friends!

TheWow3579d ago

I agree. Wii U has monster hunter, one of my favourite series ever. The iPad ( I'd prefer a Nexus 7) would be great for emulating older handheld games.

Gladiator’s Arena review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Even though the Vampire Survivors influenced ‘auto shooter’ genre isn’t long in the tooth, I’m still surprised that it has taken this long for a Roman gladiator-themed rendition to come along – especially with a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 box office hit Gladiator imminent. It’s thematically perfect, with its circular arena in which one man stands alone against hordes of enemies, grabbing loot as they survive one wave to the next."
