Because Sony has a 20 year history and in those 20 years they have supported their platform well after the next one was released. And supported it with a variety of great games over numerous genres. I'd say people are buying it because of trust that Sony has earned with 20 years of being in the games business.

Only 1 reason. Ps4 is in 49 plus territories and Xbox One is in 13.
Xbox One adds 29 more territories in september then suddenly the numbers will reverse. Common sence, so in a sence yes, Greatness does await......til september.

hmmm, lets use some of that common sense you mentioned.

Fact: The PS4 is handedly beating the xbone in all those 13 regions except for the US where it is just beating it by a fair margin.

Fact: Since the start on January xbone sales have slumped off and the PS4 has substantially increased it's lead.

Fact: In virtually all of those other 29 regions where the xbone will be released in September, going of last gen data, those demographics heavily prefer the playstation.

Common sense says there will be a sharp bump in sales for the xbone in September, but will be no where near to denting the millions ahead the PS4 will be in by that time.

Feel free to come back at me with more of that common sense.

I'll give you a hint. They didn't. They manufactured x number of machines and it doesn't matter if they put all X in one territory or split up x into 60 territories.

Here's where it gets really simple. PS4 sells out all of its X, and then re supplies as fast as they can. MS does not because the stores are full of their X.

Every territory where both are available, PS4 is outselling it. How is MS spreading their supply thinner and shipping to more countries going to counter that?

then MS had a release conf and just spoke about watching my tv on the xbone(well im in uk and it didnt even work till last week),then spoke about they was taking away all my rights when i buy a game at a shop.

then i was getting a ps4 and promised i would never change my mind back before i even watched sony conf.

As the others have said, this list mostly sums up the reasons people were more excited for PS4. Though I think it has just as much to do with Microsoft being dumb as it does with Sony being smart. Sony got lucky when MS flubbed up and then pounced as any smart company would.

Good list. I would only add Sony's support for their consoles throughout the ENTIRE GENERATION life cycle which they have done since the PS1.

Guys, we have to think about the masses here, not just our own little gaming world. The average person knows nothing about the "power" Gaiki, developer studios, GDDR5 4, 3, 2 or whatever. All they know is that its new, its hot and it fits in the budget.

IMO...it is more so due to
1.) A cheaper price
2.) Because of public perception/PR
Everything else like power, (upcoming) games, ps plus, VR...etc kind of falls in after those things.

Half of the people I know that bought ps4's at launch don't even know why and are extremely bored with it. Now I am not saying that the ps4 has sold so well because of PR, hype and price alone, but those things played a HUGE part in Sony's current success.

Me being in the marketing field, it is neat to see the tactics we learn about happening in the real world, its pretty awesome to witness...lol

All of my friends who have a PS4 play Diablo 3 right now.. becasue there is nothing to play on the PS4.. even second son was finished over the weekend with PLATIN (easy mode)

Sony must push their devs more for online content.

Nintendo doesn't promote the Wii U anywhere near as much as Sony promotes the PS4. Nintendo is to blame for the Wii U not performing as well. Nintendo have billions in the bank and are not investing enough of that in marketing the Wii U.

as I said before, the Playstation brand is an older and bigger brand. It is selling based on it brand name alone. There's hardly any games to play. .

The Xbox will always have to work harder than Playstation.. Sony doesn't have to try as hard because they already built a stable brand many years ago. You've got folks buying PS4 just 'cause it's Playstation regardless of how barren it is at the moment.

Also, in many countries PS4 is the only option they've got because the Xbox ONE hasn't released in those countries yet.

Your post made no sense. The PS4 has enough games to give its owners a great time till they wait for the next exclusive or big multi-platform to hit, which might be as short as a few weeks.

Don't be such a casual. There are over 40 games available, 100+ this year.

PlayStation is an older and bigger brand, and they didn't have the same luck last gen, so that can't be it. Nintendo is an older and bigger brand than PlayStation, and Wii U's not doing that hot, so that can't be it either.

Then you bring along the "countries argument" as if that has any validity. Microsoft already released the Xbone in the countries where it did the best last gen. Xbone is a distinctly American product - so they have no chance regardless. Bringing it to more territories will help slightly, but Sony always has the better global marketshare.

The Xbox will continue to succeed, maybe not 'dominate' but succeed. They did 80 mill last gen, taking market share from Sony. Although the Wii led the market then.

Because they have proven generation after generation that they are in it for the games, and that they deliver the goods all the way to the very end of each generation aand beyond it. Its the value you get as a gamer that keeps me coming back, not how badly MS messed up with its recent stumbles. (Of course MS shooting themselves will obviously bring more people to experience the value in a playstation console but for those that already knew, MS's PR mistakes are irrelevant)

Xbox One may be only "officially" out 13 countries, but there are retailers in some of those remaining countries that have been importing Xbox One from the UK for months. What kills me about this site is all this talk about Sony dominating. How are they dominating? They may have a 2 to 3 million lead and yes that is a good lead but to say its dominating is bullshit. The xbox 360 had a lead like this over the PS3 last gen and to here the Sony fans last year it was bu...bu..but the xbox 360 came out early and wait on this and wait on that. Now that the PS4 has a decent lead its called dominating. I call the wii numbers last gen dominating and this shit about the xbox one is done is ridiculous because if that was the case the PS3 and xbox 360 was done before it got started compared to the wii sales last gen. Number of countries is irrelevant. Price isn't the only factor, otherwise the Wii U would be winning. There are more games on PS4 than XB1. There are more games coming out for PS4 than XB1. There are more exclusives for the PS4. DX12 will not close the power gap.
