inFAMOUS: Second Son’s Characters are 120,000 Polygons; 11 Million Rendered Regularly by the Engine

Some new data about the impressive rendering capabilities of the engine of inFAMOUS second son has just been revealed.

Its not the textures or the lighting, its the facial motion capture that really suspend disbelief.

Certain expressions and conversations in inFamous made you forget (maybe only for a second) that you were playing a game, not watching a movie.

Particularly Betty on her sick bed, and some of Delsins expressions when he was really mad. They didnt feel like polygons, they felt human. Thats what its all about I think.

I'm not saying games are anywhere near to photorealistic yet, but that convenience of emotion is what really sells it.

The only thing I dont like is the "floaty" feeling when he jumps or the "snap" to a pillar thing that they kept with the old engine. Wish they removed it so it'd feel more natural.

I feel that the game is shorter than Infamous 2. Might have to do something with the new powers being able to travel way faster than Cole's not-Enel-powers.

My only grude was that the eyes on the characters were a bit foggy to me... Might just be me though. Otherwise the game looked so good, I didn't believe this many high res textures, 1080p amd all those particles and lighting could be done this early on on the hardware

NPC's weren't all that. The main characters look good though.

To me, Killzone: Shadow Fall has the best visuals followed by BF4 in certain campaign segments.

Honestly, I'm not trying to start something here. I just don't see what makes inFamous the best looking next-gen game. In fact, GTA 5 wows me to this day. InFamous, apart from some wicked neon effects and other astounding effects left me very unimpressed. When the tutorial started, I thought, is this it? Maybe it gets better in the city. It did, but not by much.

My opinion though. I know some of my mates disagree with me on this., I don't get it but respect to everyone's opinion.

Killzone Sf is excellent looking in alot of area's, BF4 stuns me now and then.

Heck playing through the last of us and it looks amazing for a PS3 game.

Can't wait to see uncharted 4 on PS4.

But you have to remember Infamous is an openworld game. Be interesting to see more of watchdogs.

Lol that picture isn't what the game is like, my best guess is the texture didn't pop in for some reason , 99.9 percent of the game is amazing and some one takes a picture of one instance of textures not loading and you use that as an example.

How about the millions of screen shots people have taken whilst playing the game and they fool people into thinking it's real life, which has happened to a couple of customers I have shown my screen shots too at eb games. It is by far THE most impressive console game in the visuals category to date.

theres this segment in the game where you have to look for a conduit with V powers, you go into this underground room, where his domain exists.

That moment right there shows how Infamous SS would look if it was a corridor based game. It looks extremely impressive, the lighting is above anything else right now. Because the game is open world people are not really appreciating how technically impressive the game engine is. Check out that segment I mentioned and youll see why Infamous takes the crown for best real time graphics.

That's about as one-sided as it gets. The game doesn't look like that at all. You ARE trying to start something, because if you weren't, you would have posted more screens. But then, you generally stir the pot and then call for leniency, so I'm not surprised at all.

OT: That explains a lot. The game looks fantastic, and coupled with the best AA I've ever seen in a home console game, its visual praise (by both gamers and reviews) is well deserved!

Septic, your situation seems to be a very singular one. The worst thing that happened to me in the game was a DUP truck started to spin and dance around like a ballerina. No texture load in issues or the like at all.

While I get this may be happening to you, I think you are also smart enough to realize by some pretty general searches that you are in the extreme minority for people who experience this issue. You are the first I've encountered with this specific issue.

Infamous:SS is BY FAR the best looking next-gen game out there. I'm currently playing Tomb Raider TDE on my PS4, but after platinuming Infamous I am blown away at how bad TR looks in comparison. Granted it is just a last-gen port, but it doesn't even come remotely close to Infamous in regards to the visuals/lighting. To say it is a night and day difference would be an understatement.

A word of warning to those who haven't played Infamous:SS yet, after you play it every other game out there will look flat out awful and unappealing. It seriously has spoiled me in the visual department.

You're right. Ryse is absolutely beautiful to look at, but it's not really as technically demanding as Infamous. It's really a somewhat linear, small arena game vs. an "open" world game. This is not meant to disrespect Ryse or what the devs put into the game, it's just much harder to get those graphical assets out of an open world game.
