Watch_Dogs PC Video Recorded on i7-3930K and GeForce Titan; AMD Cards Will Have HBAO+ but no TXAA

There has been a lot of talk about the console versions of Watch_Dogs, but today Creative Director Jonathan Morin gave some information on Twitter for those that are waiting to play the game on PC, also explaining how the game is different from other open world titles.

No txaa isn't too big of a deal, it does add a slight blur to the entire image as well and MSAA tends to be better, of course with a greater toll on your card.

Magicite3662d ago

i7-3930K and GeForce Titan = worst value components for gaming. I5 and gtx780 would do about the same for MUCH less money!

1nsomniac3662d ago

I havnt had a single game even come close to breaking my i5 2550k, GTX 760 into a sweat, I cant see this being the first.

MRMagoo1233662d ago

All the pcs i make in a day at the PC repair shop, i never once have told someone to get an i7 for gaming i always tell them to get an i5, its def not worth the extra money. so i would have to agree.

starchild3662d ago

Yeah, I think my i5 2500k and GTX 770 will do just fine for this game. I don't expect to max every setting and get 60fps, but I can easily see me maxing it and capping at a solid 30fps, or turning down a couple settings and getting 60fps.

Meltic3662d ago (Edited 3662d ago )

Agree i have gtx760 and i can run Everything at ultra specs. I hope i can run Watch dogs with ultra too on pc. But is the ps4 version like high version of pc or less?.

Starchild*

I consider you too play ps4 instead then. Turning down a couple of settings will destroy the Beauty of the game. The ps4 version is like high version in pc or very high.

MicDude3662d ago

This is true. The performance gap between a 780 and the Titan is minimal. The only reason one may need a Titan would be for multi monitors at above 1080p resolutions.

Gamer19823662d ago

Shame video is in 720p so won't show all detail but still look AMAZING on PC.. So glad I ordered PC version for my gaming machine :).

RedDeadLB3662d ago

Well, the i7 has a bit more bang for buck today, with games being optimized for 8 cores. You obviously haven't played Battlefield 3 and 4 online. I know it's stupid making an example of only two games, but they are currently the best example of the advantages of an i7 over an i5. More so in Battlefield 3 than 4. The i7 stomps over the i5 in BF3, pushing a much higher framerate than the quad-core i5. The i5 will drop fps below 60 in most maps while the i7 pushes 80 or even more when overclocked.

I myself have an overclocked i5 3570k and a measly HD7850 OC'd to HD7870 speed and I lose fps in those two games because of my i5 hitting 100% usage, so I am thinking about upgrading to an i7. Compare my bottlenecked medium range HD7850OC to the twice as powerful GTX 780 and you would see how stupid it is to get an i5 with a 780.

The six-core i7 3930K even has an advantage over the standard quad-core/8 threaded i7 in Battlefield.

An i5 is okay if you play singleplayer games, but for multiplayer, the more cores you have, the better. Of course, POWERFUL cores are also important and that's why the FX8 series is trading punches with the i5 instead of the i7, but that's another story.

If you have the money for a GTX 780, you should also have enough money for a CPU powerful enough for it.

combatcash3661d ago

I hope it scales well, all I need is to upgrade my cpu I'm hoping a gtx 670 is good enough to run it.

JsonHenry3661d ago

I have zero problems running any game with my 8core 8350/GTX680. I'm waiting till late this fall to upgrade. And I may not even then. Just depends on what the toll Witcher 3 and the Dog Fight Module from Star Citizen take on my current system.

I have a feeling both will want me to upgrade. I'm hoping.

wnek93661d ago

its true i7 is only to have a little more headroom for capturing high quality videos without any performance impact. but a majority of gamers dont do that so the i5 is a better deal.

tee_bag2423661d ago

nah mate.. i7 FTW.

Thumbs up for the 780

ZodTheRipper3661d ago

Those are exactly my specs :D But I'll play it on PS4 though.

I don't agree. Aside from SSAA I have to say that TXAA has produced the cleanest image quality I have seen in games. SSAA is great, but it is also very demanding. TXAA does cause a slight blur, but for people like me that place a high priority on image cleanliness TXAA is the best form of anti-aliasing with a reasonable hit to performance.

Most forms of anti-aliasing, including MSAA, do not clean up the sorts of temporal aliasing and shader aliasing that plague many modern games. You are going to see a lot of that kind of aliasing in Watch Dogs. You need SSAA or TXAA to effectively deal with it and, as I said, TXAA is less demanding so it is often the better choice.

I prefer a clean, pre-rendered CGI look to my games and I don't mind a very slight amount of blur to get it. You can also turn up the sharpness using something like SweetFx and the difference in image sharpness becomes negligible.

Dynasty20213662d ago

I love how no console owner knows what you're talking about.

PC masters unite.

CrowbaitBob3661d ago

"no console owner knows what you're talking about"

Apparently you live in an imaginary fantasy land where 0% of PC gamers own a gaming console.

ITPython3661d ago

Wow, even with this game running on PC with ultra settings it doesn't even look as good as Infamous:SS.

StoneyYoshi3662d ago (Edited 3662d ago )

Oh no!! No TXAA???? Oh well.

I don't think AA will be much of an issue. I kinda hope i would be able to use the same kind of AA as Second Son has. SMAA is what i believe its called.

ProjectVulcan3662d ago (Edited 3662d ago )

It'll be an issue because it's a game set in a modern city. That environment is going to be filled with lots and lots of building edges and railings, poles, wires etc. So AA will be fairly important to get a nice image quality.

I think this game is going to be very demanding on maximum (they say GTX780), you can just see it will be with those visuals coupled with the nature of open world titles.

However I also believe that most people will be able to get decent settings. I suspect it'll scale very well just because it is also on the older consoles.

MRMagoo1233662d ago

well second son wasnt filled with jaggies and that was a city too so i suspect watch dogs will be fine.

StoneyYoshi3662d ago (Edited 3662d ago )

MRMagoo123

Exactly my point i was saying in my comment that got most disagrees. Infamous used an alternate type of AA called SMAA and it worked great on that game, and they said it was hardly demanding. there were even graphs showing the performance gains using SMAA over the other options.

I just said "Oh well" about TXAA cause its not like i cant use any other type of AA. Doesn't matter to me what type of AA I use, my pc can handle it.

Kleptic3661d ago

according to Vulcan...Seattle is not as modern as Chicago...

ok, got it...

ProjectVulcan3661d ago (Edited 3661d ago )

I think people just need to read a little bit what I said.

Mainly that when you have this type of game, AA is very important. So it's an issue that will have to be addressed.

This game is also multiformat so it'll be a factor that varies from platform to platform, I fail to see where second son comes into it and I didn't even mention it, apart from it being a PS4 exclusive set in a city that uses SMAA.

The other consoles have to deal with aliasing and we are yet to know for sure what method any of them are going to use for that. It'll probably be some post process.

Who cares, the article was about the PC version, which you can have lovely MSAA on if you wanted.

lets_go_gunners3662d ago

I'll be running it on high 60fps easily.

jay23662d ago

Good to see it on PC. I a may grab it on PC, I am on PS4.

LAWSON723662d ago

Maybe I am mistaken but I belief TXAA is exclusive to Nvidia GPUs, so I dont really know why people need to be told AMD GPUs will not get the option in Watch Dogs

Abriael3662d ago

HBAO+ is Nvidia too, but it'll still work on AMD cards so..

OWWO3662d ago

dont u think it will cost performance?

hiredhelp3662d ago (Edited 3662d ago )

Your right lawson TXAA Is exclusive As it was developed by and made by Nvidia it was first game showcase this was Crysis 3.
However Nvidia has made other AA that have been openly used for both makers...
MSAA is broken yes its very taxing stupidly taxing thats why its broken to give you a idea on some games MSAAx4 can bring what you pay for brand new nect gen console to its knees barely hitting solid 60fps.
I miss other AA like MLAA

Are_The_MaDNess3662d ago

the reason why MSAA is so taxing is because its Samping your Native Res up to 2-4x times that and then crushes it down to your res again.
its the best way to get a clear picture since you can have the game running at a 4k res at a 1080p screen.

MSAA is almost as taxing as you would run the game at a higher res.

starchild3662d ago

@ Are_the_MaDNess

You are thinking of super sample anti-aliasing (SSAA).

As far as MSAA, you can consider it a sort of optimized supersampling that targets edges.

The downside to MSAA is that, unlike SSAA, it doesn't affect alpha textures or shader aliasing.

You need SSAA or TXAA to effectively clean up most forms of aliasing across the entire image.

Ipunchbabiesforfun3662d ago

Yep, what star child said. SSAA super samples the image to ridiculous amounts and then scales it down. I do it in Metro: Last light. On 4X on a GTX770 and a 560Ti for just Physx I was at like 20FPS maybe. Looked CRAZY good though, easily distinguishable.

Pandamobile3662d ago (Edited 3662d ago )

MLAA was terrible.

MLAA evolved into FXAA, which was the pre-cursor to TXAA.

TXAA and (to some extent) SMAA are as good substitutes for MSAA, and in some cases yield better results.

Watch Dogs Deserves A Remake, More Than Ever

With the world of information and technology, privacy and security growing every day, Watch Dogs deserves another chance in the spotlight, now more than ever.

RaidenBlack999d ago

The only Ubi title that deserves a faithful remake right now is Splinter Cell 1.
All 2014+ Ubi titles are just underwhelming. Especially ones from 2016+ are just cancer.

LucasRuinedChildhood999d ago (Edited 999d ago )

Seriously, are we so far removed from Ubisoft actually making good games that people now praise Watch_Dogs in retrospect?

"Watch_Dogs has remained one of my favourite games of the last ten years." Jesus Christ.

HankHill999d ago

I remember being so disappointed in Watch Dogs when I played it at release. It was alright, but I think I fell for the hype and I needed a game to play on my new PS4.

obidanshinobi999d ago

This is what happens when mediocrity gets praised as good.
Standards are slipping across the whole entertainment industry.
What was once considering rubbish is now considered as OK, what once was OK is now being praised as good etc etc.

LamerTamer999d ago

Everyone has their own likes. I liked it a lot myself. I played through it twice and liked the car chases and the open world with fairly decent environments and missions. It suffered from the whole downgrade thing where they showed graphics that weren't actually there. No game will appeal to everyone but it was still ambitious for it's time.

gantarat999d ago

assassin's creed 1 should get a remake.

ExBee999d ago

For certain! AC1 was brilliant at the time but with new graphics and gameplay it would be amazing! Do you prefer old combat or new though?

RaidenBlack999d ago

I'd say a reimagining of AC1.
I direct AC1 remake would be a bad idea. It'll need better story pacing and significant better world building.

BlaqMagiq1999d ago

Old. Let it play like how it did with AC2-Syndicate style gameplay but refine the setting and story.

Profchaos999d ago

It would need a lot changed for it to be enjoyable again as even back in 2007 on launch we were all complaining about it's repetitive gameplay go here perform one of three side quests repeat then assassination now do it over and over until a big battle with a unforgiving checkpoint system.

BlaqMagiq1999d ago

Absolutely. It needs it. The only AC I truly didn't enjoy.

chicken_in_the_corn999d ago

I'd prefer it didn't. Ubisoft would make it so bloated, it wouldn't be anywhere near the original

smolinsk999d ago (Edited 999d ago )

Absolutely, this watch dogs legion was terrible boring.

Profchaos999d ago (Edited 999d ago )

As a fan of the franchise legion was garbage and I regretted my purchase for the first time in the franchise the entire thing felt like an experiment in NPC behaviour and released without the writers input on what makes a good story.

I don't think I'm alone in that feeling though as wrench and Aiden are brought back and the campaign was rewritten to fit them.

I am tempted to buy the season pass to play it again with Aiden but fool me twice shame on me I'm waiting for a deep sale

camel_toad999d ago

Agreed. Despite the annoying hipness of the characters in part 2 I thought it was a really fun game. I was extremely disappointed and surprised at how many steps back they took with Legion. You'd think it was made by an entirely different team. Or was it?

It was just so devoid of fun.

LamerTamer999d ago

Honestly one of my biggest annoyances with Legion is that they took out the camera views for the driving. I mean the behind the car view that they stuck us with is near unplayable. I always used a first person driving view. After two releases why did they take OUT features? I don't get it.

TheSinsibleOne999d ago

The fist watchdog game was the best by far
After that they weren't weird and annoying with that hipster stuff. Aiden was a badass.

LamerTamer999d ago

I thought so at first too. I got used to it and it ended up being good after some play time. I just had to give it a chance.

TheEnigma313999d ago

Remake the PoP series from xbox/ps2/gc era

RaidenBlack999d ago

They are remaking Sands of Time.

TheEnigma313999d ago

That's good news. Hopefully it's done right.

Inside the Driver game that died so that Watch Dogs could live

From VG247: "When cars slide, they leave tyre marks. In a game like Driver, they’re an aesthetic touch, part of the inherent cool of a handbrake turn. But those dark shadows in the road also tell a story. From tyre marks, you can determine the speed of a vehicle, when it started to skid, and its ultimate direction of travel – long after the car itself has vanished into the distance."

vallencer1064d ago

Different spellings in different parts of the world friend. Tyre is a correct way to spell it.

Pridefall1064d ago

Dunno why you got downvpted when tyre is correct in Australia.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1064d ago

Why did they stop making some of the best games ever? Driver was one of them.

Gameseeker_Frampt1063d ago

Assassins Creed 2 showed Ubisoft how to make money and Far Cry 2 showed them that gamers don't like complex ideas. Now Ubisoft just turns out games that are just variations of the same thing.

WeAreLegion1064d ago

Best driving mechanics ever made. Nothing has come close.

Gardenia1064d ago

A story driven game with pure driving gameplay. I'd love to see a new Driver game or a remake of the first one.

ApocalypseShadow1064d ago

Yes. This one. A definite remake of the first without adding any ridiculous fluff. The first game had great physics and sound for its time. The start of the car in the beginning cinema I watched constantly. My father and uncles were big muscle and classic car freaks. Only thing crazy about the game was the relentless cops in the last level. Insane the way those police cars were and launched at you.

Bleemcast made it look better just like PC emulators. But would definitely take a remake.
