While Sony Celebrates 'Infamous' Sales, Microsoft/EA Still Quiet About 'Titanfall'

Well it's pretty obvious EA lost a lot on potential sales and probably greatly reduced the long terms user base of what could have been a new blockbuster game series.

By the time Titanfall 2 comes out, I doubt as many people will care about it, everyone that buys a PS4 instead of xone (which is close to 2:1) will have convinced themselves that Titanfall isn't that great and that BF4 or COD is as good or better. Plus games like Destiny and Division stand the best chance of actually "revolutionizing" online play. It was clear Titanfall while good, didn't. Not even close.

And MS lost A LOT of money paying for exclusivity, unofficially dropping the price of xone by over $100, advertising like the game was Halo (which cost hundreds of millions), and only had a very brief uptick in sales.

I for one love seeing arrogant companies humbled (not destroyed), it makes them actually treat their fanbase like customers not consumers and forces them to give them want they want. It happened to Sony and now they're giving away free games, provided powerful hardware at a fair price that easy to develop for, and tonnes of exclusive games, both AAA and indie. They're treating devs and gamers like humans with a voice that matters cause obviously in the aggregate it does.

I'd love for MS to get off their current policy of constant ridiculous PR BS, exploit customers, nickle and dime to the max, paywall everything, high price small value, propriety everything, 3rd party exclusive, few 1st party crap and actually listen to would be customers.

As someone that has played both...I can tell you that in my opinion without a single ounce of regret, Titanfall is BY FAR the better of the two games. MS being quiet isn't a shocker, anyone acting like this is surprise either isn't paying attention, or purposely trying to create something out of nothing. MS has REPEATEDLY said that they don't release news on numbers more than quarterly, it's not something they do. They feel that doing it that way is more accurate and they can give a better count. Past that, there is no reason not to brag about Titanfall. Every other indication is that it has sold much more than infamous has. On average 250k more on the XB1 alone and the difference in sales per week isn't enough to make up for the difference in release dates. Not to mention that Infamous sales are declining faster than Titanfall sales are. This article is simply flamebait, it'll take time before we have the full picture either way.

However I suppose one who is willing to do about 10 minutes of researching will discover that every portion of your post is ironically as you say 'flaimbait'. Then on top of that everyone who boasts about these amazing titanfall 'sales' is so conveniently choosing to ignore the fact that they almosst immediately started bundling the game with the console at no extra cost and still counting it as a sale. THAT'S why we're not hearing a peep about titanfall sales, it fell so far below the expected mark that they walked away with their tail between their legs. Titanfall's hype has crashed and the final game is in no way enough to match the pre-release manufactured hype. inFamous sold 1 million copies on a system that has only sold around 6 million. That means 1 out of every 6 PS4 owners bought inFamous. That's an extraordinary attach rate. Sony should congratulate Sucker Punch for such a feat.

And I want to say that the quiet surrounding Titanfalls sales isn't because it didn't sell well (being on 3 platforms, and having a ton of hype, it sold pretty well) but I don't think it sold Xbox Ones in the way that Microsoft thought it would. They spent a ton of money to make that game an exclusive because they thought people would buy an XB1 just to play it. I don't think that happened. That's why I can walk into a store and buy the Titanfall XB1 bundle for $450 right now. Nobody is buying it.

And they can't talk about Titanfall sales numbers without talking about XB1 sales numbers.

Titanfall would have sold a lot more if EA hadn't shot themselves in the foot by excluding the Playstation platforms. Despite that, since it's currently bundled for no extra cost with the Xbox One, it's FPS multiplayer, and it's available on PC and Xbox 360 as well, it should easily outsell Infamous Second Son. Infamous Second Son has sold very well for a single player game that is only available on one platform with an install base of about 7 million so, Sony should be very happy with its performance. Titanfall sales seem to be slightly underwhelming given that it's on multiple platforms, it's a popular genre and it's bundled with the Xbox One. Perhaps this is why MS hasn't yet trumpeted it's sales numbers. So far, imo, it hasn't moved as many Xbox One consoles as MS had hoped for.

TitanFall for PC and inFAMOUS on PS4 and , in my opinion, I can understand why inFAMOUS would sell more.

To offer context, I stop playing TitanFall because of boredom but I stop playing inFAMOUS because I did absolutely everything. Nevertheless, I want DLC for inFAMOUS.

TitanFall is incomplete: (1)Only 5 game types yet only Attrition is fun, (2)only 5 custom classes, (3)only 10 pilot primary weapons yet only 5 of them are actually useful(Carbine, Shotgun, Smart Pistol, Compact SMG, and C.A.R SMG), (4)no custom camo on anything, (5)no options for higher player counts, (6)no dual wielding weapons, (7)no upgradable abilities, (8)no co-op modes, (9)all 15 maps are unexciting, (10) the graphics are uninspiring, and (11) titans are the only awards to work towards.

Lacking too many features is TitanFall's bane. There isn't a balance of positive and negative features. It's skewed negatively because its positives, to me, are it's fast and it has Titans.

Incomplete multiplayer-only games won't sell highly for $60.
Respawn is better off creating a co-op singleplayer similar to Borderlands or Destiny with too much story. However, offering a robust multiplayer experience similar to Modern Warfare 2 would also sell well.

It's really only two options for shooters that sell highly for $60: Offer a co-op experience with too much story or offer a multiplayer experience similar to Modern Warfare 2, the pinnacle peak of multiplayer shooters.

Riddle me this? If TF was such a failure, why did EA announce securing the rights to TF 2 a mere 8 days after launch? That is unheard of. No other game or publisher has ever announced a sequel so quickly. EA also said that they did this based on TF's performance.

Some ppl say that they have gotten bored with the game and that is fine because I am loving it. I streamed it for over 12 hours yesterday (full party 6 friends) and about a good 4 hours today. Plenty of newbies are playing this game and more start everyday.

It's amazing how ppl say that this game is dead or the honeymoon period is over but in reality it is quite the opposite. Have fun hating...I'm going back to doing what a gamer does and that's play games. "Pilot your Titan will be ready in about 2 mins".

I think it is not just me that plays single player mode and if it is cool I go and test MP.
If the SP is not good I normaly dont bother with MP only games unless is a MMoRPG or Diablo3.

I belive that many potential costumers for this Titanfall game ended not buying it when they figured out the game had not even a 4 hours campaign like CoD.
Even CoD games offer a basic fun 4 hours campain that we want to play it on the hardest difficulty setings too.

I really love Infamous and my PS4. However I have to admit some things about Infamous make me think this game could have been made on last gen. It is still a great game though and I am happy with it. I don't have an xb1/titanfall but my brother-n-law's family has 3 in one house! They all played it a lot for 2-3 weeks. Recently though they are back to playing lots of COD Ghosts and even a bunch of MW2 on the 360! They said they got bored after awhile. A guy at work said the same thing the other day and now all he plays is BF4 and Fifa. It does not compel me to go buy an xb1 with testimony like that. I am beginning to believe the people that said this game was way over hyped.

It's even dicier to compare sales estimates of video games, when some sales (digital downloads) are not included. Sales figures tell us nothing about the degree to which players are immersed in a game (for that we would need to know the number of hours that are spent playing a game online)...

But why bother? If I enjoy a game, that's all that matters. If it sells well, that's of interest primarily to its developer.
