It wil be free to play with microtransactions, but they will not be pay to win, will most likely just be cosmetic based transactions which you can very easily do without.

Really looking forward to this :) DayZ was fun for a while but all my friends gave up on it because improvements and updates were few and far between, plus it required a behemoth to run the thing.

This will do nicely for me. Until then, I'm just gonna keep hosting my ProjectZomboid server with friends and enjoy the hell out of that amazing experience :)

ALL free to play ARE pay to win since the most important features are locked out. Those features are usually the ones that, while absent, hinder your progression.

Example, your friend buys into the subscription, but you opt out. He is now leveling at a rate twice as fast as you and subsequently is leaving you behind, since you can no longer group together. In this scenario, those paying the sub will reach their goals first. They Win.

Forcing you to pay the subscription in order to progress at the "intended" pace is Paying to Win.

Not only that, but once you start paying the subscription it doesn't take long before you have paid MORE for the game than if you had bought it outright.

Free to play is the bane of gamers.

justSumDood I've played several F2P games that are NOT pay to win. You're obvioulsy focusing on the ones that are and choosing to ignore the ones that arent.

What about Forza? Theres a game you pay 60 quid for and then it also has a pay to win model? Now THAT is a complete atrocity to gaming.

h1z1 doesnt have a leveling system so there is no xp boosting bonuses for those paying a sub. All a sub will bring you (most likely) is access to more cosmetic options and maybe cheaper deals on the microtransaction front of cosmetics (what mmo doesnt have those?)and probably a few extra character slots.

The game will work similar to DayZ. When you die, Your character is gone, all yr gear is on the floor for the taking. If you can get back there in time you can get your stuff back, unless someone else gets there first.

I just mean that it's everywhere; movies, TV, books, comics, etc. So it's inescapable. If you cared about teen vampire stuff you could watch Twilight (or the other variations), but if you didn't you could pick up a video game. The fad pretty much left that medium alone.

Further, that most of the Zombie tropes have been explored already. Almost everything now is some variation on whats been done already.

Lastly, as per problems with it, the bubble seems burst proof for some reason.

So, while I enjoy post apocalyptic fiction and really, all good fiction is worth my time, zombies or otherwise, I'm simply saying that there is a lot of it, it's not giving much new, and it's pretty much everywhere.

That's fine, and ultimately you're right. But every time a zombie game our movie our whatever, is made, it means something else isn't being made. I don't have a problem with trends. Often they give more ways to explore a given idea. My issue is when we stop doing progressive things within a trope. Usually even then we can brush it off saying"well the fad has reached its saturation point so there's no use complayning. It will be gone soon." But the intense ferver for more zombie fiction hasn't gone away.

So i feel we are stuck with a trope pretty much out of ideas and killing off the potential we could have had of playing something else.

I don't think the PS4 will be left out on any future big SOE MMO projects because it's capable, easy to work with, & gives their games more exposure to gamers.

The developers at SOE have also worked on all PS platforms. Many reasons to why this is also getting a PS4 version.

In zombie games, creativity mostly lies in the story; The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, & early Resident Evil games did a great job with that.

I think the best rebuttal to your comment would be that you can ask similar questions to everything:

Another shooter?
Another game with free roam in a city & cars?

Like I said, creativity lies in the story & gameplay. You're not looking at the bones & the meat of a game & jump to conclusions from a generic label you've given.

SO it's like Day Z, Rust, State of Decay? Sounds good to me. I like all 3 of those games, and each has variations on a similar theme, but I'm still waiting for someone to nail it, and I would like to play this on my couch on my PS4. I have 780ti, but sometimes, you just want to sit on the couch with a nice controller. And as a bonus, my wife actually *enjoys* watching me play video games on the TV. (She is LOVING Infamous and adored Mario 3D.) She plays Warcraft and Civ, but other PC games don't really interest her to play or watch. She thinks it will be cool to watch something like the Walking Dead.

DayZ isn't exactly the best game in the world.

All you do is run around collecting items in a vacant open world, bump into someone and die ad infinitum :)

There's no base building in DayZ or anything that would promote a community type game.

I actually prefer Rust to DayZ but both games suffer from lack of content and direction of the developers.

I hope SOE can merge the town building from SWG/Rust and the tense atmosphere from DayZ and other survival games.
