N4G Contest - Day 11: Who Designs the Best

For information on the "20 Days of..." contest, please see https://n4g.com/user/blogpo...

Congratulations to oasdada, our tenth day winner!

On the eleventh day, the question we have for you is "Who do you think designs the best characters and worlds for video games?"

This one is extremely easy for me, Chris Avellone.

Let's just list those credentials: Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment (my favorite game of all time), Icewind Dale, SWKotOR 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, Divinity: Original Sin II.

The guy has his hands deep into some of the all time best RPGs out there and it's uncommon that the issues with a game are from his designs and world building, but typically from other elements of the game. Chris Avellone has been a household name for me since Planescape and has rarely disappointed me. Even Alpha Protocol was an enjoyable game for me, and I didn't even know he had a hand in the game until years after its release.

Yoshitaka Amano. His work on Final Fantasy is legendary. He also designed one of my fave characters in the series. Vivi. Before Nomura mucked up the series with belts and zippers. We had Amano. His art is not just great in gaming but is legit museum-worthy art pieces. Anything from Japanese cover art of the games to the characters. They always had a poetic flow to the art. Full of detail yet elegant.

Fumito Ueda. Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian all have his distictive style stamped on them and are unique gems.

hehe, you were a step ahead of me. Also gave a huge Ueda shout out, along with George Kamitani of VanillaWare studios.
Oh and congrats to Oasdada.

Razzer1961d ago

Warren Spector. Ultima VI, Wing Commander, System Shock, Thief, Deus Ex. Dude has been around quite a while and still makes great games.

Necron1961d ago

Hideo Kojima, the man is a genius.

Totally agreed. I just rewatched the MGS1 opening scene remake. Gives goosebumps everytime.

His characters were so different and fully realized with histories. And, to have so much attention to their manneurisms and voice acting for its release was way ahead of its time. Each boss has such great dialogue.

‘Stellar Blade, but good’ is here, and it came out seven months ago

Stellar Blade might be the hot game right now, but we already got a better version of it more than half a year ago.

Stellar blade is currently higher than lies of p on metacritic with 40 more reviews. No shade on Lies of P but just pointing that out.

But i don't even know why compare them? Because both are souls type games?

Then you can just reuse this article all the time and say Elden Ring is "whatever new souls game" but good for every new souls game.

Stellar blade hate articles must be rolling with clicks...

I mean… it’s like saying we have a better NieR with Devil May Cry. Yea, there’s some similarities, but Lies is really hardcore in the sense of emulating a FromSoft game almost perfectly, where Stellar has some Souls-like elements, but I’d say it’s closer to Sekiro than say a Dark Souls game. This almost feels click-baitey

What if, and hear me out, they’re both really good? Mind blowing, I know.

Listen here you, that's not how this is supposed to work. You choose a side and you defend it. None of this little "what if there's more than one good game out there" nonsense.

Crows9013m ago(Edited 10m ago)

Oh geez...this is why journos suck...they can't even see differences between games.

Stellar blade is nothing like lies of P. Didn't these guys give stellar a bad score? Geez they really hate it. Stop the hate! Lol

Fallout 4 is now available on next-gen consoles, but PS Plus users might be left disappointed

Fallout 4 is now available on next-gen consoles, offering 60fps gameplay and 4K resolution. But it's bad news if you claimed the game on PS Plus.

Probably won't happen for PS+ since Sony makes a clear distinction between a PS4 game and a PS5 game, unlike PC and Xbox where it is not a specific device game (It's now always an Xbox game).

So to make the PS5 game of fallout 4 available. Bethesda would need to renegotiate the complete deal with Sony.
hence why there's often only the PS4 version of the game available on PS+.

Let's hope Bethesda and Sony can arrive to term quickly.

I think a hard copy should be relatively cheap at this point.
