God of War's First 3 Hours Are Way More Emotional Than We Expected - IGN

IGN: "We played through the opening of God of War for PS4, and walked away incredibly impressed."

corroios2226d ago

I have no doubt this will be one of the biggest games of this gen.

TheKingKratos2226d ago

This is going to be GOTG contender isn't it

JaguarEvolved2226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

I know it's going to be a hard decision for a lot of hardcore gamers to choose between God of war and labo in april /s. I know that I'll be picking up God of war on day one

IamTylerDurden12225d ago (Edited 2225d ago )

My guess is that it will deserve about a 93 Metacritic but probably receive an 89 and it will sell about 8 million units. Combat and visuals already appear to be spectacular, and the story seems deep. With 30+ hours of gameplay, loot, and arguably the best production value in the industry i can't see the game being anything but superb.

Deep-throat2226d ago

It will because it has way more emotional moments.

Yay.

UCForce2226d ago

Do you think is bad things ? No matter how you said that you have PS2. People like me don’t take you seriously because you are naive like a child. Like Green Arrow said, you have failed the city. And I will say that you have failed the gaming community.

showtimefolks2226d ago

Deep

And sea of thieves will have an awesome story oh wait

I am sure crackdown 3 or halo or gears will. If no game from Ms gets an emotional story than forza for sure will deliver an excellent awarding winning story

KwietStorm_BLM2226d ago

Gotta give you props for persistence, if nothing else. Keep it up.

DarXyde2226d ago

Why do you all give this personality any of your time?

Is that the new thing you're going to use to troll gow and Sony now that hands on previews have come out and are overwhelmingly positive smh get a life

IamTylerDurden12225d ago

Deep story and emotions are a good thing in a game with a narrative.

Looks like GoW meets Dark Souls meets The Last of Us. I liked the GoW games well enough but they were never near the top of my list. But this looks fantastic.

alb18992226d ago

This is one of the games that I buy without watching reviews. I don't care.

Was the emotion rage? Or Fury?
Kratos has always expressed those emotions best.

Pancit_Canton2226d ago

It's for wiping Xbox fanboy's tears. lol

AmstradAmiga2226d ago

Tell me, which xbox fans are these? Im in xbox fan...and a Playstation fan. Have multple PS4s and XB1 consoles in my house. Are you referring to me?

morganfell2226d ago

"Tell me, which xbox fans are these?"

Have you only been on this site for a day? They are actually already appearing in this thread if you look above you post a few places.

UnHoly_One2226d ago

You know, it's possible to just not like a game, without it being because of what console it is played on?

There are 2 PS4's and 3 Xbox One's in my house.

I'm a huge God of War fan, played all the previous games, and bought the collections, etc...

To me, this game looks like they are trying to turn it into something else. Something that I don't like.

I want GoW to be GoW, not TLOU. I don't want "emotional" moments in GoW unless like somebody said above, that emotion is rage. lol

trooper_2226d ago

Hey smart one, that's not what I meant.

Get your mind out of the gutter.

"Too much feels 6.3/10 - IGN"

PowerOfTheCloud2226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

- Too much facial hair
- too many fights
-
- Graphics are too awesome
- atreus getting sonned on the regular
- the gender fluid lifestyle is underrepresented

+ great water effects

6.0/10

SuperSonic912226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

I know , right?
Seriously. IGN has given such a low score to GoW 3 before.

gangsta_red2226d ago

I don't know about a more emotional Kratos. Kratos became 'emotional' towards the end of Part 3 and it seriously ruined an already mediocre entry to an otherwise fantastic trilogy.

But then again this is a different Kratos and maybe having this be established from the beginning of this new entry will be a lot better then a total 180 at the end.

Nyxus2226d ago

Since when was God of War 3 mediocre?

LMFAO @ gangsta_red trying to mute his past behavior, hypocrisy, fakery, the continued support for Xbox fanboys and trolls in Sony threads, while taking issue with Sony fanboys on Xbox threads. etc, etc, etc. The taking anger to fact and trying to be obtuse about every and all easily sourced claims that made Sony look better than MS a few years ago when it was all going down. The things this dude did and excuses he made to staunchly downplay the PS4's games lineups (Japanese games in particular) because it simply had the more diverse, better and simply more upcoming games (something that's still easily verifiable). I even remember him trying to lump all of PS4's Japanese games into a single JRPG category (as if that is the only genre of games that studios in Japan know), and try to say that XB1 having one or two timed-exclusive MOBAs meant that XB1 had an equally diverse lineup. I remember him personally insulting me in a fit of rage for providing legitimate proof that Quantum Break on XB1 was not as technically proficient as Uncharted 4.

Bed's been made, my dude. After some of the biggest Xboys on here were exposed and subsequently left or were banned for showing their true color (the very same people you aligned with and defended almost every day, despite all of this), you're pretty much the only one on here that still pretends.

oh, and in case anyone finds it weird that gangsta shallowly misrepresents God of War III, don't worry. He's done the same with The Last of Us, Uncharted and all those Sony games he claims to have played, but somehow completely misrepresented.

P_Bomb2226d ago

Kratos has been emotional before. Calliope in Chains of Olympus wrecked him; heck the first time we ever saw him he was depressed and attempted suicide.

UCForce2226d ago

Don’t forget about Ghost of Sparta.

P_Bomb2226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

Yeah his brother! He’s compromised there. Kills Death but still loses Deimos...again. This after mercy killing his mother earlier in the game.

MegamanXXX2226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

@gangsta
Whatever you say 😁

UCForce2226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

This is still Kratos just like previous games. But he is older and wiser. Sony Santa Monica isn’t put the name Kratos on it not because the cash grab like Metal Gear Survive. It’s because they want to see Kratos moving forward and show his humanity side. In previous GOW games, Kratos did show his human side but little. Now he has a second chance to show it in this new GOW.

@above
Part 3 was the weakest in the series for me, from the weapons set to the story. All that rage and hell bent on revenge and then all of a sudden he meets some little girl trapped in a cage (or something) and then he decides he wants to save her?

This is after two previous sequels of him brutally murdering anyone with no mercy to get to Ares/Zues.

It made no sense for him to suddenly be reminded of his own child and then get wrecked when she died.

Nothing beats 1 and 2 of the original series, but as I said above which no one seems to be taking into account (for some odd reason), this is a different Kratos and establishing that he does have something to care and live for in the beginning of this new chapter will be a lot better.

r2oB2226d ago

@ gangsta

Didnt Kratos get emotional when he accidentally killed Athena in GoW2? So why doesn't it make sense that he showed emotion in GoW 3 towards Pandora?

GoW 3 obviously has a tone of redemption for Kratos for what he did to his daughter, so it's obvious that he would feel some connection to a girl that reminds him of his daughter, as he searches for redemption while also trying to carry out revenge. He chose revenge rather than redemption by letting Pandora sacrifice herself by letting her go and attacking Zeus (in a fit of rage).

The new God of War is obviously a story of redemption as well as he probably doesn't want to make the same mistake with his actual son, by letting his rage get the best of him. I'm actually looking forward to exploring that part of his conflict.

gangsta_red2226d ago

"Didnt Kratos get emotional when he accidentally killed Athena in GoW2?"

Because Athena helped him get to where he was, she was apart of what he became and he had more attachment to her then he did a child he just met.

That redemption though came out of nowhere especially after the ton of damage he already did to the Gods and the people of Greece, especially after letting loose the Titans to wage war. Also meeting the girl in the third sequel towards the end of the game just felt rushed.

Agreed about this one possibly being a story of redemption, haven't read too much to avoid spoilers. It would be cool if his son maybe inherited his rage and he's trying to calm him down or something of the sort.

doos_vd_kak2226d ago

Who said God of war 3 was mediocre? Sorry, but that's not a thing.

Yui_Suzumiya2226d ago

Actually 3 was the only game I really loved in the series and this looks like it will top that.

rainslacker2226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

The biggest thing that kept gow from being one of my favorite ip's was that he never really grew as a character. He's had emotional moments, but then he just goes back to being pissed off and raging on any and everything he comes across.

I'm hoping the new story actually builds his character, and doesn't just rely on emotional moments to appear deep.

I'll reserve judgement on if they pull that off once I play the game.

Otherwise, it's looking good, and I have high hopes it'll turn out to be something special

gangsta_red2226d ago

In all fairness the God of War story always took a back seat to the actual action, weapons and epic gameplay. It's when they actually tried to give him more depth in part 3 where it took a nose dive for me.

But a fresh out take on Kratos is definitely welcomed

rainslacker2226d ago

I guess I didn't feel that way, because it didn't seem that deep to me.

Might be in a minority here but I didn't enjoy any of the sections playing as Atreus or having companions at all. If I had my way it'd be Kratos on his lonesome from start to finish. Straightforward action gameplay without the endless boring chatter.
