it is because instead of demanding more from MS they are trying to settle for what is being offered(they don't know any better) the reason playstation has had long term success along with nintendo isn't due to MT but due to the fact both console makers have great 1st-2nd party studios

I have heard since 2013 how ms will improve and how they will invest more into their studios so far it has been all talk. Just like the months xbox one finishes dead last they release xblive user data and the few they win they will actually release sales data

this is the 3rd console from ms yet they havent learned a thing and keep making the same mistakes over and over

and than articles like these show up which are clearly paid by MS because no one in their right mind would think MT can replace actual exclusives. There is a reason sony has come out to say we will focus even more on 1st-2nd party games. Why are games as a service bad again? Monster Hunter World took the same approach with pretty impressive results. The game will stay fresh with a steady stream of updates/DLC and by the looks of it, free. Not all games have to be single player narratives to be good.

Nobody is claiming that. The point is it's a major deficiency on ms's part. There is an audience that ms aren't catering to and it is obviously more important than some give it credit for.

Following on from what neutral said. . Xbox fans spend way too much time highlighting others deficiencies and defending or deflecting away from ms's own deficiencies. It's weird such a cash rich manufacturer can't get their act together in their 3rd season. Maybe they will never do more because every misstep they make is pacified and defended by a large amount of hard-core fans. . The issue is that MS comes off as wanting to get far more money out than put into gaming. That games as services is essentially giving them a blank check in addition to DLC, MTs and loot boxes.

If you really look at their game development history they've always had creative issues, looked for 3rd parties to provide that, while any idea of "pleasing gamers" breaks down to business mechanics on how to get more money out of consumers for the least amount of effort.

Know I can't point that out without being called a Sony fanboy, but the obviousness, the results, of MS's actions are still plain to see.

Sea of Thieves beta showed a lot of interest on streaming sites sure; but I question the long term engagement of it.

Ultimately, Sea of Thieves will be seen as a success if it can pass off as a well fleshed out title that can retain player attention.

There really isn't any other game like it. That alone is rare (hehe) these days so that's great. I'm glad Rare got a chance to be untethered from Kinect and have had creative freedom to create something this unique. I've had a lot of fun in the beta but let's see how the final game fares.

As for comparing it to PS exclusives; that's silly. There's no other game like it really and I can't think of an appropriate comparable.

Sea of Thieves does look great, and should make for a fun experience, but one game does not do anything for a system. MS would need to string together several quality releases to be considered relevant again. Right now there is hope for the future, but they are currently paying the price for not doing a better job early on in the XB1 lifespan to nuture new game development like Sony/Nintendo has been able to do.

HUNGRYALPACA the fact they are on pc is irrelevant. PUBG is also on PC and has sold millions on Xbox. Looks like they are investing in time and money in online games that you can play cooperatively with your buddies. Those type of games generally have staying power. It's only two games but it's a good start to the year, they have the potential to dominate like fortnite and PUBG has. Don't know if they will but they look pretty damn good.

It's more important for Sony to keep their games off pc, but I highly doubt that PS owners would be running to play any PS only games on pc. Even third party games sell the most on consoles. As console gamers we generally prefer to play on Consoles, even if it's available on pc, I think sales show that fact.

@Vasto, who cares? The point isn't whether or not MS makes money, it's about whether you need to own an Xbox one. If I can play everything good on Xbox one on PC, why wouldn't I just game on PC? I own a gaming PC, PS4, and a Switch. When I got my gaming PC I intended on just having a PC/Switch setup but there are way too many exclusives on PS4 for me to abandon it altogether. Using steam sales, GMG, GOG are all cheaper at launch/before launch.

Let’s say you buy 12 games a year at full price.

Canadian prices here.

Xbox - 79.99 plus 13% sales tax = $90 per game.

That’s $1080.

GMG - $59 (the %25 off discount most games have at launch) plus NO sales tax.

That’s $708. Already I’m saving $372 a year JUST on the same games. Now add in your yearly cost of LIVE. That’s over $400 per year.

Not to mention the money you can get back on steam by selling unwanted items.

The laptop was $1400 plus I got a tax deduction on it. They’re a lot cheaper if you have someone build them.

those are amongst some of the teams that make some of the best multiplayer content that releases regardless of platform. Sony themselves do not lack multiplayer games they actually have quite a few Microsoft simply actually just locks a single player games. technically you're trying to argue that Microsoft has a more percentage of multiplayer games compared to single player but I'm not sure why that ratio needs to be the same.

So yes if we were to look at percentages Microsoft absolutely has more multiplayer games compared to their single player...

That actually doesn't mean Sony has none that just simply means Microsoft makes more of their content only multiplayer than the other way around.

ie you could have 9 out of 10 games multiplayer in Microsoft vs Sony could have a 11 out of 100 games be multiplayer and technically still make more multiplayer games but also focuses on multiplayer less.

Keep in mind that's just an example but at the end of the day Sony still makes more games Microsoft just makes less games and the few games that they make are almost all multiplayer Focus to sell microtransactions.

And guess what? It's entirely possible to get drawn into those SP worlds and have fun too.

Getting lost in a world. So, fun to you is endless grind that has no actual goal in the end?

I did that kind of thing on WOW. Since then, I've realized that while MP can be fun, it's very rarely fulfilling from the perspective of game play or experience. The only good thing about it was the connections to others, and while that can be a tangible thing in many cases, more often than not, it's not, and for my part, I can have more meaningful interactions with people outside of a game, and those relationships will usually be more fun overall, and last past a server shut down.

The best SP games of all time are usually games where you can get lost in a virtual world and have fun. Other people are in no way necessary to do that. Consider that Skyrim is so much more loved than Elder Scrolls Online.

What you consider actual games is laughable, and shows your true colors about how shallow of an interest you actually have in video games....although I assume your current comment is because of your console preference. Tell me, when you had people convinced you had a PS4 for a while, and were positive about it and the games, what happened since the X1X released to change anything in terms of MS output, or what constituted a good game? One more MP game, which is nothing more than a high quality F2P game, with what you can actually do in it only vaguely known by a limited content demo.

I would argue ironically their biggest problem is that they have to even bank everything on a single title in the first place ,trust me you don't see random articles popping up talking about "how Dreams is going to Trump Microsoft lineup"

Sea of thieves seems a funny game, but the exclusives that are coming this year from sony are heavy hitters. Are games that will sell millions and that ps4 gamers really want. Are system sellers. Thats a big diference.

I think Sony already is with GT:Sport. I wouldn't doubt that they have something else brewing in the background also. Sony isn't one to not pursue a potentially profitable venture, and GaaS can be profitable. They already had a couple attempts with some smaller games which really didn't manage to catch on.

There's no way an online dependent, MP, GAAS type game is in anyway shape or form will be any threat to a Sony exclusive game. GAAS games live and dies by it's user base participation. And Xbots as well as gamers as a whole has short attention spans. Even If SOT starts off with a Bang after it launches, how long do you expect the user base will stay on SOT until the next *flash of light (*MP Shooter) shows up and just watch how fast all the moths flock away from SOT right to whatever comes next. And all that beautiful open ocean water physics will be just as empty of ships and players from dead servers.

I sure hope the Water Physics in SOT aren't patented, I'd sure like to see a return of the JET MOTO or HYDRO THUNDER games using these Kick-ass water physics.

I played the Final Beta on PC for SoT. Such a boring game, combat system is so off, and the 15 real life minutes you have to sail to another island is a joke that can't be resolved. The writers argument is that GaaS like Gamepass rely on game longevity to make more profit as single player games are usually play once and then move on so if you are into multiplayer games at a low price you will keep subscribed to Gamepass and MS will in the long run make more money. Now this argument relies on 2 things the first is that games like SoT's are actually good games that people want to keep playing and the answer to that is unknowable until they have been out a month or 2, the other is that people like game subscription services and think they provide value for money. Both of those points are debatable but his argument is solid if you agree with those 2 things..
Now apart from the click bait title I disagree that this will put MS in a better position than Sony as I think doing pretty much a purely single player strategy can work as well especially if you are selling more consoles and if you can put out those games on a regular basis.
I've often thought since these consoles first came out that Sony generally does story based games better and MS does game play games better (IMO of course) but that there is space for both strategies. Anyway we will see.

At my stage in my life I want good single player games, I will hope into a multiplayer shooter, race or sports game now and then but a full open world which you need to get other people on for a couple of hours and can't pause just doesn't work on my time schedule.
