Destiny 2 will get a ‘major expansion’ later this year

Publisher Activision confirmed today that Destiny 2 will get a “major expansion” at the end of 2018, but didn’t provide specifics on what the content drop would entail. News of a major expansion came during an Activision Blizzard investor call.

even if they launched right now a big expansion it would be too late. Later this year? who cares?

A construction worker getting a manicure makes more sense than a gamer buying a Destiny expansion

So construction workers can't look frabulous?

here's my problem. They touted The Taken King as being this massive/major expansion. For all of us who played D1 we all know that wasn't necessarily the case. They touted how many new weapons and armor there was. Again, that wasn't necessarily the case as nearly every single piece was nothing more than a re-skin.

At this point I don't really care, rather, I don't take at face value what Bungie may or may not say. At this point, until they prove they can deliver a sizable DLC/Expansion their words are meaningless. And while Destiny, at it's core is still a phenomenal game, myself, along with far too many have been burned time and time again. And that doesn't even touch the massive idiotic move that resulted in D2 stripping everything that made D1 great. After 3 years of tinkering to make D1 what it was Bungie detonated what they'd accomplished and began beta testing a sequel w/ questionable changes, idiotic ideas and again, a Vanilla game.

Point is, they've tooted their horn and touted everything they've done in the past and many of know the results. Fool me once... Well at this point we've been fooled more times that it should take to say enough. And I have a feeling this year Bungie will finally feel it.

TTK was a good expansion.More events within it would've been nice, but the raid was second best to VoG. I don't even care to do Raid "Lairs" in D2

TTK was good. And PoE was fun though it could have used A LOT more variety. But it was no near this massive expansion they touted. Niether was Rise of Iron. My point isn't quality, it's quantity. They tout all these changes, say it's going to massive, there's going to be a TON of new weapons and armor (which end up being 99.5% re-skins) and the content simply isn't there. It's a handful of missions, a Raid that can be bleh to good, maybe a few strikes, etc. They just don't deliver.

You mention Raid Lairs. Even Raid Lairs they made sound like there was going to be multiple lairs in one of their videos & said how it was to be quicker than doing a raid. Here we get one Raid Lair and the Raid itself is quicker than going the Raid Lair.

yeah bungie really screwed up with destiny 2 and with monster hunter world releasing a lot of players have jumped ship.
Destiny 2 has so much potential to be a better game, but it was rushed with little content to keep the player coming back. Im pretty sure i will play it again at some point but right now its collecting dust. Games are rushed too much because of ADD ON so it give the developers all the time in the world to make the content. When it comes to a AAA game content has to be a primary focus and releasing day one. Add on's are ok but 70% of the content should not come from it.

But you guys keep buying the sequel, so it is your own fault. Bet you will buy Destiny 3, and then months later say something, something, something. If "fans" buy incomplete games over and over, then obviously nothing will change.

I'm not a Destiny player, but you guys are like a broken record playing the same tune.

choujij2265d ago

I agree. What's sad is that Bungie has so many gamers out there that really want their game to be good and loaded with content. And by not delivering, all they're doing in the meantime is burning bridges.

Swiftfox2265d ago

I feel this is a bit of an unfair comment. During the life of the first Destiny game, Bungie had shown signs of getting things right with their content and expansions, according to the community. In spite of a rocky start for the game, they ended reasonably strong coming into Destiny 2. Even though the launch was lack luster the game still reviewed highly, and it was only with the release of the new expansion when things started to snowball. News about Bungie throttling experience, locking most items in the pay-walled Eververse, bringing back old items only to lock them behind said pay-wall, and the news the game only had 16 months development time didn't happen until well after the launch of the game.

So, if the reviews were mostly positive and there was a general good feeling about the title moving forward, can you really blame people for picking the title up in good faith? I don't blame fans of the game for buying it expecting a company to learn from their mistakes--especially given the heavy obfuscation on Bungie's end. It's like you're asking the fans to be fool proof and omnipotent. People are only human. Do I get upset when people are suckered into buying snake oil? Sure. But the salesman deserves just as much anger, because they're clearly being a douche.

moved on to Monster Hunter World. Sorry Bungie, you had my attention for so long.. chance after chance after chance. I am done and moving on to greener pastures.

The drip feeding of content and fixes have ruined their reputation. Games should not be treated as a business plan from the get go and Destiny was that. It was rumored to be a 10 year plan with 500 million dollars invested.

xX-oldboy-Xx2266d ago

MHW is just a better all round game, D2 actually went backwards - not the direction a sequel should go.

Blastoise2266d ago

This franchise has been about doing the bare minimum you can get away with from day 1. Such a cynical and hollow shell of a game that could have been genuinely brilliant.

Onslaught is certainly a lot of fun. Plus it's nice having a wide array of extremely useful weapons to grind for.

Been having a blast using The Mountain top as a traversal tool rather than a weapon
